I'm not that tech savy. all I want to do is add print preview back to drop down menu, complete with sizing options, etc. many are unhappy it's gone as a default. can you tell me how to, simply, assume I'm an idiot, how to restore it?

With the new print dialog enabled Print Preview is part of the window that opens if you click Print (Print Preview and Print Setup).

For now you can set print.tab_modal.enabled = false on the about:config page to revert to the old dialog.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

Eventually, that switch will be removed. Are there features you need that do not appear on the combined preview/setup/print overlay? We've had a number of comments about the "Simplify Page" checkbox and the fact that on lower resolution screens, the preview is smaller. (Starting in Firefox 87, the More settings panel will stay open to save that extra click.) Any other problems? Make sure to voice your concerns now before it's too late.

The new preview/print feature is causing me 5 or 6 extra steps on something I do at least 20 times a day. If it's going to stay and the "System Dialog" is going away, I'm turning off updates.

What are the 5 or 6 extra steps?

Trying this again, got an error, it didn't save the response so this one will be shorter.

System dialog: click print, print to file and the correct filename is selected, click ok, click over write.

New dialog: click print, it doesn't seem to remember anything, select print to file, wrong file selected, change the file, wrong directory, getting to the right directory and finding and selecting the file is at least 2-3 steps, click ok, click over write.

I never use the "Print to file" checkbox. When I tested, I didn't get any file name suggestion using either the old or new method (printing this page). Someone may need to look at this more closely to understand the difference.

It always defaults to Documents/output.pdf

Restarted Firefox and na-da. I started using Firefox way back when not many people were using it, and have always stuck by it, but am now wondering why certain changes have been made. Due to always using Firefox, I didn't actually realize that the other main browsers didn't have a print preview feature....I use this daily and the new way of printing doesn't make the process easier it makes it harder and I wish that Firefox developers gave us the opportunity to say whether we wish to try things and revert back to the old method if we don't like the new way. I find developers have great ideas most of the time, and love nearly all the features that are rolled out, but this one with the printing I'm giving a massive thumbs down...worst decision ever.

Hi beadnv, there's no need to restart Firefox. As soon as you switch the setting from true to false, the menu options and keyboard shortcut should change. Can you go back to about:config, filter using tab_mo and compare with this screenshot:

If you have extra or duplicate preferences with garbage can icons at the right end of their rows, you can delete those.

They have preview integrated with Print. Don't look for a Preview item on the menu, look for Print. This is how most applications have been working in recent years (except Firefox).

This is a stupid change. I'm turning off update and never updating again. There's nothing I hate more than change for the sake of change and form over function, like this one. Firefox is getting as bad as Microsoft.

By the way, I don't actually use Firefox any more as my primary browser. I use Ghostery Dawn but at some level it is based on Firefox so update goes off there too.
