How to open multiple bookmarks in tabs without clobbering the server?

I have a couple of use cases where I keep a bookmarks folder full of links to the same server.

For example, I run a blog where at the end of the year, I create a Best Postings of the Year-type posting. In order to get a shortlist, I go through all postings and bookmark the ones I like. Then I open all of the resulting bookmarks at once in a new window, and more often than not this leads to a lot of 50x errors, because the server cannot handle so many queries at once.

Another example, I manually scrape upcoming events from 20 or so organisations by looking at their Facebook /events pages by keeping these pages stored as bookmarks and then selecting Open All in Tabs. Again, this sometimes leads to errors.

Is there some sort of no-clobber option for the Open All in Tabs function, so that pages get opened with say half a second or a second in between each page?

Somewhere else I saw references to a couple add-ons for slowly or lazily loading bookmarks. You may want to search for extensions along those lines.

You can try to adjust the values of some network.http.max-connections prefs on the about:config page.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

Thanks for your help.

I tried this, and it seemed to help a little.

First when I opened 52 bookmarks to the same site at once, it would start showing "500 Internal Server Errors" after the first tab. 5 tabs loaded fine.

When I changed network.http.max.connections from 900 to 20, the first 3 tabs would load fine and then it would start throwing errors. 7 tabs loaded fine.

When I changed network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server from 6 to 2, the first 3 tabs would again be fine, but then the errors started again. 18 tabs loaded fine.

With both settings changed as described above, the second tab would contain the error. 27 tabs would load fine.

I did not clear caches between tests, so this is hardly scientific. I would expect clearing caching to make the problem worse, though?

A single page from that site requires 29 requests and takes about 4.5 seconds to load (yes, this could and should be better, but there are many reasons why that currently is not the case that are somewhat out of my control).

Open Bookmarks Slowly does exactly what I was looking for.
