NOW I got it where I want it... I didn't at first realize I could put it above the main bar. Now I put it there, and all is good!

The bookmark bar eats up too much precious display space. I need a way to put one icon where the original search bar was, next to the printer icon, etc. BTW, the search bar was too big. I just need one simple icon that leads to Google.

How about setting it as your home page, so that clicking on "home" will do that?

Thought of that, but I need the "home" icon for my email.

Is it possible to duplicate the "home" icon, and use the dup for search?

How about some way to make my own icon for that space?

Save one bookmark on the Bookmarks Toolbar. Then open Customize and move that one bookmark (will be labeled as Bookmarks Toolbar Items) to wherever you want it. Then exit Customize.

to expand on my first reply: you can go into firefox customization mode & drag & drop the space of the bookmarks toolbar to any place of your liking, like the main toolbar (so you have no extra bar showing up). you control the amount of the bookmarks showing up there, so it shouldn't take too much place within the toolbar...

Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars

Now we're more than halfway there!

Now I have the single "bookmark" I wanted, but it takes up about three times the space I wanted.

How can I reduce the space required to less than half what it now requires?

I'll continue to play with it, but if someone already knows a way...

Thanks!

Right click on it. Properties. Change its name to a short one.

You can shorten the name to a single uppercase "G" or a few more letters if the current name is to long. You can do that via the right-click context menu in the Properties and in the Details pane at the bottom right in the Bookmarks Manager (Library).

And then set to Customize, grab the "Bookmarks Toolbar Items", and pull it down into the other icons to free up more Tabs room.
