it only happens on certain news websites, but while viewing a news article, the web browser will be re-directed to go.goadvs.com webpage with an advertisement. If i hit the "back" arrow, it will go back, then a few seconds later redirect again

i've tried the various malware removal tools and thought i'd succeeded but it's returned - how can i remove it entirely, permanently?

tks

Does this happen at some sites? Many?

You may have ad / mal-ware. Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.
