for the last few days I have been having trouble with YouTube on FF. It comes up on my screen as recent or common visit but when I click on it. it takes me to- https://m.youtube.com/?- (basically an m. in front of YouTube) I get a similar screen to you tube but it does not allow me to click on the videos in my searches or watch them.

I have tried reinstalling fire fox (an upgraded version) and am currently waiting for my anti virus to complete a scan.

any suggestions ?

Hello,

Reload the webpage while bypassing the cache using this step:

  • Press Ctrl + F5 or Ctrl + Shift + R (Windows and Linux)
  • Press Command + Shift + R (Mac)

If it's better, try to clear the cache and cookies:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu, choose History, and then "Clear Recent History...".
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the "Clear Now" button.

If it doesn't help, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

You can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Thanks for your help, but none of those found the problem. I can access the normal you tube page in Explorer so I am fairly certain this is a fire fox issue.

Are you using any user-agent string changer add-ons? User agent strings let websites know what version of the webpage to show you. It's basically the internet browser's and your device's identity. For example, if you had a user agent of Firefox and Windows 7, then YouTube should show you the normal version of YouTube. If you had a user agent of mobile Firefox and Android, then you would be shown the mobile version of YouTube that is easier to navigate with a touchscreen (m.youtube.com). User-agent string changers are used primarily for website testing. If you have a user-agent string changer that changes the identity of your device to a mobile operating system like iOS and Android, that could be a cause of the problem.

well that explains where I am going Thanks, I have not been able to fix it when I disable add-ons. How would I change it back to the user agent for firefox and win7 ?

If you have an add-on that changes the user agent, go to your add-ons page (click the menu button then the add-ons icon), look for the add-on, then either click the Disable or Remove button associated with it.

Try this: Install this add-on, activate it, and choose Windows/Firefox 29 as the user agent. (the icon of the add-on will light up when it is activated)

Well I installed it, selected win - ff 29 and it is lit up but that did not do the trick.

Strange. There's either another add-on overpowering this one, or there's just something wrong with your profile/Firefox installation.

Try refreshing Firefox, or if that doesn't work, do a clean uninstall:

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu New Fx Menu and click the close button Close 29).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

Thanks for your help. I ended up having to delete my cookies I can now get to normal You tube. But because I no longer have the e-mail account I started my accounts with I lost my Gmail accounts including You Tube and Skype.

needed to reset the password for here as well as my current e-mail.

Other than my head spinning from the hour that took me of being denied usernames and having to come up with memorable 8 digit passwords that are a combination of acceptable letters and numbers I think things are "fixed"

The other guy's suggestion to delete cookies and cache (mentioned earlier) should've worked, then. Did you try that?
