I understand that there is an error playing a BBC UK video content when Flash is used as the default video player for the site on a newer version of Windows.

To make sure it does not have to do with an interaction with a plugin or hardware acceleration please see if this also happens in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode

However since it gave a serverity I wonder if it is a service error. In the Web Console when you load the page are there any 500 errors?

I had the same problem. Starting in safe mode it worked. I figured out that it was the HTTPS everywhere addon which causes trouble on BBC. So just disable it for BBC and it works.
