I've got a Lenovo netbook with a Synaptics touchpad, using two finger scrolling in XP. Elsewhere in windows and in other applications the scrolling works fine, but in Firefox 19 it's annoyingly jerky. It's not a performance issue or a bug, just a setting somewhere whereby rather than scrolling smoothly, I drag my fingers for about a second, then firefox scrolls several lines at once, then nothing for another second of dragging, then several at once, and so on. It makes it quite hard to read text and line up videos etc.

I've tried monkeying with the various scrollwheel and smooth scrolling settings in about:config, but haven't managed to make any difference. I'm guessing it's some kind of delay or sensitivity thing, but can't find it.

Thoughts?

Hello,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
