After upgrading to 6.0.2 I've been having problems with an extra tab opening every time I start Firefox; the extra tab is functiniong at first, but later becomes "stuck" and will not close.

Every time I start my newly upgraded Firefox 6.0.2, I have an extra tab opening in addition to the home page one. The extra tab allows me to type in the address, go to the webpage, but it does not close and after a few minutes stops working altogether. I have to shut down Firefox each time I want to close the second tab. Any additional tab I open works just fine. Even new windows open with two tabs: the working link and the sluggish parasite tab.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I tried that and the second tab still appears each time I start Firefox even in Safe Mode.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).
