I have a pop account on AOL that I access with TB. This configuration operated as expected until two weeks ago. In the past, emails remain in the inbox folder on the AOL server and then TB would download them every ten minutes onto my PC. Currently the incoming emails spend 5 minutes in the inbox folder on the AOL server and then are transferred to the trash folder on the AOL server . This means that most emails are not transferred to the inbox on my computer because they are put into the trash folder on the AOL server in less than 10 minutes. I am using TB 52.6.0 (32-bit) on a Dell PC operating under Windows 7 (64 bit). AOL claims that this is a TB problem, and has no solution. What can I do to return to normal operation.

When using POP protocol an email client like Thunderbird only knows of the server Inbox and that is a one way channel from the server to the client. Ask AOL how they think an email client can move messages to a folder it knows nothing about.

What happens if you close Thunderbird? When you check the AOL webmail page are the messages getting placed in there trash?

Thank you for the reply. I have already tried closing TB and the transfers continue. AOL says that it must be some issue with TB.

Leave Thunderbird closed. Also make sure any mail functions on phones and tablets is turned off. One of the common points of confusion occurs when a phone downloads and delete mail. Somehow folk just do not see their phone in the mix until poked about it.

You do realize Thunderbird is software running on your computer. I have never seen software that does much of any thing when it is not running.
