Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Firefox ver 43.0.1.

I have Options > Advanced > Update set to "Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them" but Firefox insists on sometimes ignoring this. For a while it will advise me of updates and let me decide what to do then, without a by-your-leave, it will insist on updating without asking for my permission. This is seriously annoying because I use Kaspersky AV which is notorious for having conflicts with Firefox updates - it is always best to wait a while before updating Firefox. It happened yesterday and the version installed (43.0.1) has now totally blocked Kaspersky keyboard.

As Firefox refuses to obey instructions on updating I have decided that my best bet is to totally kill Firefox automatic updates - I'm quite willing to check for these manually. How do I do this?

Hello, try to lock the preferences : http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences

// Disable updater lockPref("app.update.enabled", false); // make absolutely sure it is really off lockPref("app.update.auto", false); lockPref("app.update.mode", 0); lockPref("app.update.service.enabled", false);

thank you

Thanks for the reply. I will bookmark it for possible future use. However, I found an alternative approach to the problem on the Kaspersky forum. This is to set xpinstall.signatures.required to false in Firefox. The Kaspersky keyboard now works and I simply ignore the warning message that Firefox gives in Tools > Add-ons.
