When I open a new window, it also opens a new tab. How do I open a new window without a new tab opening with it automatically. This problem just started.

I used to be able to open a new Window (Ctrl + N) and it would "only" open a new Window, which is what I wanted.

Now, when I open a new Window, it does open a new Window, but it does it with a new Tab as well.

So if I hit "Ctrl + N" for example, a new Window AND a New Tab will both open. I have to close the tab every time now because I only wanted the new window.

Please help.

Are you saying about Start page ? or your browser opens with new tab and Window . If new tab is opens with start page then do this : Paste about:config in url > Click Enter in search-bar put browser.startup.homepage ,now check what it gives in value. change the value (for startup page only write about:home)

  • Start firefox in safe mode as some addons conflicts with the default setting . See Help : Firefox Safe Mode

A new window will open with the home page(s), so if you have set multiple home pages then you can have this happen.

You can check the home page setting:

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page

Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' (pipe) symbols.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

It's not simply an issue with the homepage. When I click any link or open a new window, firefox is also opening a new tab every time.
