Mozilla Firefox installs Yahoo without permission
Mozilla,
You have treated me well these 8 years since I have used Firefox. I have never had a complaint about your browser. This time, i quit and move to Chrome. All of a sudden Yahoo is my start page (I cán handle that), but worse, without any permission, or any confirmation, after a restart I have a Yahoo Toolbar. This could not be Yahoo's doing. Has to be Firefox or Mozilla. Even worse, cannot seem to remove this from the prefs or where ever.

It’s very sad, but many of the software down-loaders / installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well. You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the itsy bitsy teeny weeny fine print. You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does. From now on, everyone needs to Use The Manual Option to put a stop to this.

When you download the normal installer from Mozilla, you get Google as your default. When you download the Yahoo edition, you get Yahoo stuff. There may also be other explanations for how it go onto your system.
If you decide you want to try to remove it from Firefox, please post back for suggestions. If you like Chrome, enjoy!
In case others find this thread and want the suggestions:
Toolbars generally are created by extensions. Check for unwanted, unrecognized, or questionable extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Mac: Command+Shift+a
- Windows: Ctrl+Shift+a
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then check the list carefully and, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Some extensions will not list a Remove button. This typically occurs when they have been discovered outside of Firefox, for example, in the Windows registry. In those cases, you typically can use the Windows Control Panel to remove the associated program. (I'm not familiar with how it works on Mac.)

No version of Firefox for any OS from mozilla.org whether by update or setup have come with a extension toolbar including the Yahoo one. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
The only Yahoo related thing that Firefox from Mozilla.org may come with is by being one of the search engines choices in the Search Bar. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/search-bar-easily-choose-your-search-engine
Some possibilities, you installed the Yahoo bundled version either from Yahoo or a unofficial download site. It was installed by a application either during new install or a update.
