A few weeks ago Firefox started crashing constantly. Is there anything I can do?

After those updates, still crashing...so the problem is at mozilla's end, not at the plugins that I just updated.

Arbok, Sorry you have continuing problems. We know Firefox works for the majority of users without crashing. So we need to try to figure out what is different with your Firefox installation, and that requires your help.

It may be a problem with Mozilla Firefox but the developers stand little chance of identifying and fixing the problem if it is not reproducible. You seem to have inferred you were already in contact with someone from Mozilla if so how and who ? (Or are you just referring to comments on crash reports).

Would you please try the clean install as instructed previously, and then run Firefox in safe mode and with all plugins disabled. Please then post back with how you get on and paste into the reply a couple of none empty Crash IDs relating to the new crashes, if it still crashes.

P.S. It may be interesting to know what sessionstore related files you have at the moment with their names. dates, and sizes; because that could well be an important factor in these crashes.

Sorry John99 but I do not know so much about computers and I dont know whatellse to do except to report the crashes after each and every one of them but that is all. Not a single contact except the one that I told you about before in wich I am "invited" to use the crash report on their site and I did that every time. Still no contact from them, exept the same email that I receive every time telling me to use the crash report form on their web page.

If I knew more about computers I would do just to solve this problems quicker, but I do not know much about computers. I wrote them every time about this mozilla crashes, what ellse should I give them? I do not know what other info to give them, so they can solve it. , Maybe they need my underwear size?

About what you asked me: "P.S. It may be interesting to know what sessionstore related files you have at the moment with their names. dates, and sizes; because that could well be an important factor in these crashes."

My answer is: I deleted all my sessionstore files except the last 3 or 4 I think. I deleted all of them (minus 3 or 4) and it is still crashing.

I cant belive it, that a single sessionstore file saved it is crashing my mozilla everytime.

What does it mean? That I cant store a session ever again?

About " It may be interesting to know what sessionstore related files you have at the moment with their names." I can tell you that I have many different pages, most of them about sports(fotball, tennis, basketball) and they are all crashing.

This didnt happened before with the old versions of mozilla, and just to tell you before of the last versions of mozilla I had even more pages oppened in the same time and mozilla didnt crash not a single time.

This repeated crashes of mozilla happened with the last 2-3 versions of the mozilla browser updates, I think that it happend with the last Mozilla v19, Mozilla v20 and Mozilla v21.0

Sorry I am probably asking unnecessarily technical questions.
Unfortunately I see no easy simple solution to your problem at the moment.

Your crashes are probably generating multiple session restore files. In some circumstances these files may get fairly large that is why I asked about the files you have and the date and size of the files.
This is not asking about the tabs or windows you have open,it is a question about files in your Firefox profile, as explained earlier.

The crash type you are experiencing may relate to the amount of memory in use, and those files may be a factor. I am not suggesting you will never be able to store a session again. I am just making troubleshooting suggestions.

Note I did previously suggest you could rename these files, that will put them out of use but allow you to reinstate them again if you wish.

As you are having frequent crashes these files may multiply.

WORKAROUND: Use Firefox Portable

Obviously you can not be expected to go on using Firefox like this. One workaround that may help you until we find a solution may be to install and use Firefox portable as an additional browser.

Try that. Does that enable you to use a Firefox browser that does not crash.

Joedallas, It is probably best if you start a new thread of your own. It gets rather confusing trying to discuss multiple issues in a single thread.

You crash signatures do not match those mentioned in this thread and it is probably a completely different problem. Please use /questions/new to start a thread.

If you post back here to afterwards to confirm you have done so we will be able to find your new thread.

When you post a new question, please try Firefox in safe mode with all plugins disabled; and post a couple of the CrashIDs if it still crashes. Some of your crashes appear to be FlashPlayer related, do you only get crashes when Flash Player is in use ?

I am not allready in contact with someone from mozilla because they never contact me. All I do is to report all this anoying repeated crashes everytime, but they dont answer back. All they do is to send me this message that you posted here: [[Knowledge Base Article|https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/709164?last=52559]]

The one with: Your Firefox crashed. We're so sorry. [...] Bla...Bla...Bla...P.S. This message was sent by one of our friendly Mozilla email bots. PLEASE DON'T TRY TO REPLY - [...] Go to INPUT SITE.

And I went to input site every time and I wrotte them every time but no respons from them and of course no fix of this repeated crashes.

They need to let people(mozilla user) the posibility to contact them trow Crash Reporter, they need to let the user the posibility to writte, to copy-paste in the Crash Reporter box the entire DxDiag.txt file or to give to users the posibility to ATTACH to the CRASH REPORTER BOX MESSAGE the DxDiag.txt file.

I dont know what else to do. 50 crashes per day drives me crazy. I think it would drive you crazy also. And I wrote them every time. I think I'm going crazy, 50 crashes per day.

And I was a big fan of Mozilla... my mistake. It would drive you crazy too. I, keep writting them with the hope that they will fix it, but...chances are less than zero.

I will lose my minds.

About what you asked me: "P.S. It may be interesting to know what sessionstore related files you have at the moment with their names. dates, and sizes; because that could well be an important factor in these crashes." <-------- Where do I find this info that you asked me?

Just today I had lots of mozilla crashes. Do you think this is normal or fair from your part Mozilla? And I submited all. Look at it Mozilla, this is just today, and I keep writing to you for too many months.

Arbok,
I will try to explain something about how the Firefox Mozilla support works when an end user (you or me) has a problem or a crash, that needs sorting out.

The first important concept to understand is that although your Firefox crashes and is unusable Firefox works without crashing for near on 1/2 a Billion other users.

  • Support Forum
This forum is the official Mozilla support site.
  • Bugzilla
Actions on problems or bugs are controlled from bugzilla. Whilst anyone with the necessary skills my contribute the usual method is:
    1. Anyone with a problem may report something,
    2. Then experts look at the reports
    3. Eventually developers; who may be mainly staff, and understand the coding; try to resolve and fix the problems.
Bugzilla is not a discussion forum however.
It is a technical workspace for developers & coders.
  • Reports
    • Forum. As an ordinary user your best option is to report problems in this forum
      as you have now done
and as the official email suggests
This is open to anyone with a Firefox problem, and as far as possible we try to use ordinary everyday language.
    • Crash Reports These are an important resource for everyone involved in working with crashes. The best way to find out details about your crash is to allow the crash report to be submitted. These are largely handled by an automated system. The resulting report is intended to be Human readable, and at least should make sense to the experts.
    • Problems / bugs Please remember Firefox is highly customisable, and works on differing platforms and Operating Systems. In many cases any particular bug does not affect everyone it only affects a very small minority of users.

I would hope we can fairly quickly get a Firefox browser working correctly for you without crashing. Finding the exact cause of the crashes will take longer, but the priority is just to get it working again without crashing, even if we do not discover the actual reason for your crashes.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article. __________________________________________________________________________

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

Please report back to see if this helped you!

Hi Arbok

Did you try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox?

Unfortunately the linked crash reports have a [@ EMPTY] signature and do not provide data that would make it possible to tell something about the cause of the crash.

I too have the same CONSTANT crash problems with the NEWER versions of Firefox. I think the last "stable" ones were back around version 11 & 14. With THREE HUNDRED FORTY-FIVE Crashes in JUST the LAST SIX MONTHS, Firefox is becoming a FRUSTRATION, a PAIN in the behind and NOT WORTH the AGGRAVATION ANY LONGER!!!

I have read the TONS of others with the same problem & I too have followed the suggestions of uninstalling Firefox, making sure I have the most up to date versions of Flash and Java, then re-installing Firefox 21.0, but still the crashes go on, and on, and on, and on. Before I stopped Crash Reporting on July 3rd, I have submitted about THREE HUNDRED and FORTY-FIVE reports JUST SINCE JANUARY - a SIX Month period!!! What is going on Firefox???

I have gotten to the point of NOT sending in reports, after submitting, almost 350 Crash Reports in the last SIX MONTHS alone!

I am now using IE 10 and "Comodo Ice Dragon" browser, much more than I'd like to. At least they are FAR more STABLE than MANY recent versions of Firefox.

I like Firefox for many reasons. Some include the add-ons, personas and being able to save an entire HTML page,

I am running an AMD EIGHT CORE CPU PC, with 32 GIG of RAM and a 2TB hard drive with Windows 8, and ALL the latest drivers.

These crashes DO NOT occur with IE 10, Comodo Ice Dragon, Google Chrome or Apple Safari, ONLY with the NEWER versions of Firefox.

After July 3, 2013, I STOPPED submitting crash reports, as it appears to do no good but waste more of my time.

I have read there are problems between the plug-in container and flash. I took computer science THIRTY NINE YEARS ago (before the internet), and did Graduate Computer Science in the 1980's. I just can't believe that there are SO MANY CRASH issues with the NEWER versions of Firefox. It feels more like I am back in 1974!!!

Here are some of the more recent CRASH REPORTS (17 that START with BP since April 27th) :

I tried to include the 345 crashes ONLY since January 1, 2013, but it was over the 10,000 character limit.

I do not know whether you realise it but this is a forum and you are in *https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/953285

Please

  1. Have a read through the other posts in this thread as you may find them useful.
  2. Then please start your own new thread use /questions/new
  3. Paste a couple of recent submitted crash Ids preferably not empty ones into the new thread
  4. Post back here to confirm you have done so.
BEFORE posting please do the following

Try Firefox in safemode and with all plugins disabled and submit the crash reports (assuming it still crashes)

Presumably you have Firefox bookmarks and passwords on the computer and want to keep them. If it is crashing still Bookmark the extensions home sites & any open tabs then use Firefox reset see if that helps

I remember computers from1974, and before. Not always even a CRT and using a single line of code per punched card, we have come along way since then.

Presumably your computer only crashes when Firefox is running? is that correct ?

Hi capilot

I've checked some of your reports and unfortunately the ones I checked have a [@ EMPTY] signature and thus do not provide data that would make it possible to tell something about the cause of the crash.

Did you try Safe Mode?

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Thank you copilot for showing me that I am not crazy, I am not the only one with this problems, with this repetead crashes of Mozilla Firefox (the older versions, the much older versions of Mozilla Firefox were more stable, some of them did not crashed even a single time). So this should be the strong evidence that the problem is not at users end, the problem is at mozilla firefox end. So mozilla you should check your people involved in solving this problems, because they didn't solved anything and we(users) aren't computer brainiacs to solve ourselfs this problems. You told us to send you the Submitted Crash Reports Files, but they are empty...so why is that my problem? You are the problem. Make a Mozilla Firefox version that doesn't send empty crash reports. I'm not a "computer smart ass, or a mozilla html code ingineur" if the Submitted Crash Reports Files are empty that is your fault not mine. After you can clearly see there are others with the same problems, repeated mozilla crashes over and over in an interval of 5 minutes so Mozilla Firefox you are the problem and I am asking you to solve this quicker because I like Mozilla Firefox Browser and I do not want to "trade it" for Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Opera Browser or any other browser.

I have Mozilla Firefox 22.0 and it is still crashing. Please Mozilla, THINK and WORK harder to solve this problems. Just remember that those Submitted Crash Reports Files are empty because of you, because lets be honest, I didn't make them empty, I wouldn't know how to make them empty, it is your mozilla firefox script that makes them empty.
