I can't connect to any web sites

When I try to connect to a web site I get a message "Check that Firefox has permission to access the web (you might be connected but behind a firewall)". I can connect via Microsoft Edge but I want to use Firefox, been using it for years. I've checked that I have the latest version. I've reinstalled it. I don't know how to check if it's behind a firewall but it was working earlier this morning and then stopped. HELP!
