I just installed Firefox 121.0 to start using it on my a MacBook M1 with Monterey 12.6.7, however I am unable to use it at all. When opening Firefox the window disappears instantly, it is just visible for a split second.

After some investigation I noticed that when opening Firefox it instantly tabs to the next application in the Application Switcher (com + Tab) while at the same time all windows disappear. What is weird is that sometimes it does not instantly tab to the next application when firefox is in fullscreen mode, the window also does not disappear when in fullscreen mode.

I have tried a variety of things that I could find on the internet with no improvement such as reinstalling an restarting both Firefox and my MacBook. Since I just installed it fresh there are no plugins installed, no downloads or any user specific settings that are interfering. The about:crashes does not list anything

I did find another question asked almost a year ago with what sounds like the same problem, which does not mention a solution: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1395683

Does anyone have an idea of what is causing this problem? and how I can solve this?

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing when you open it. Please do the following to give us crash IDs that will help us understand more about the crash.

  1. Click the Finder icon in the dock. On the menu bar, click the Go menu, hold down the option or alt key and select Library. A window will open containing your Library folder.
  2. Open the "Application Support" folder, the "Firefox" folder, the "Crash Reports" folder and finally the "submitted" folder.
  3. Open the 5 most recent files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  4. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

You can find more information and troubleshooting steps in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

Hi Paul, Thank you for your quick reply, I just looked for the folder you mentioned, but unfortunately, there is no "submitted " folder in the "Crash Reports" folder. There is only an "events" folder which is empty and a file starting with "InstalTime" followed by a bunch of numbers. Thus, there are also no ID's I can post on the forum.

I think this might be so because Firefox does not crash, the window disappears from view and it switches to the next application in the "Switch Application" order. Firefox is still running and when I switch to it (with cmd + Tab) or click on Firefox in the toolbar; it opens the (previous) window and then it disappears instantly the same way it does when opening the program the first time.
