Importing old local folders into new version of Thunderbird

Hello, I recently updated my Thunderbird software. When I launched it I had a banner saying I was running an old programme (how oils that be?) that made changes to my Profile. I created a new profile but none of my old local folders or emails are there. I did some research, found the old Profile and found the Mail folder containing all the email .msf files and the associated ‘data’ folders. But how do I get the Thunderbird programme to ‘see this’? I was able to select that Profile but it comes up as a long list of technical data folders along with the Mail folder that appears empty. I made a backup copy of the Mail folder elsewhere on the computer.

Also whenever I try to use the profile manager function from Start-Run, I get the dame banner about an older programme and then I cannot open Thunderbird at all without launching yet another profile!

Please help, I am stumped and there are 15 years of emails at stake.

re: I recently updated my Thunderbird software.

Did you update, not like it, uninstall and then download and install curent release version ? Did you previously use a beta version and are now using an up to date release version? What version did you previously have installed and what version is now installed?

I think the message banner pop up thing is actually saying you have installed an older version than what you had been previously using. Basically trying to go backwards. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/dedicated-profile-thunderbird-installation read sub section: What happens to my profile if I downgrade to a previous version of Thunderbird? Downgrade protection can be overridden by launching Thunderbird through the command line with the --allow-downgrade parameter.

Assuming you are using Windows OS and everything is in default location, use the 'Run' app TRy this: Type: thunderbird.exe -P --allow-downgrade note: there is space before and after the -P Or this: Type: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -P --allow-downgrade

click on OK select profile and click on Start Thunderbird.
