Chrome and T'bird have my new email as default...Chrome still pulls up old email?

I had to switch from an old verizon email to a gmail account. I use Win 10.

I was told that, as long as I make the new email my default in T'bird, that, whenever I get an 'auto email' online (such as for customer support from a site), it will pull up the new email.

It did for a day, but has gone back to the old email. Everything in Chrome (Google) has the new email.

Any thoughts?
