Why won't any of my bookmarked pages open?

I have a fair number of bookmarks which I have created over the years. I used to be able to open any one of them, but recently, none of them will open. Likewise, none of the bookmarks on my bookmarks toolbar will open. Using the Star to bookmark a page still works, and the bookmark appears in the recently bookmarked section of the bookmarks, but it does not open when clicked.

What happens when you try? Is this all bookmarks? Can you open a website by typing it into the address bar?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.
