I used Firefox for several hours to do my taxes, etc. After completing all my work for the day, I did my usual weekly "cleaning". I cleared my history and cookies from both IE and Firefox, ran disc cleanup, and ran my virus scanner. The computer was shut down for several hours. Now when I open Firefox, my set home page comes up; however, nothing else works. Clicking on anything (including my favorite list) causes the browser to stop responding. When I type a URL into the bar and click enter, nothing happens. In short, Firefox isn't working at all and I'm not sure if something I did caused the problem. An extra fact, I did download Firefox again, but that didn't fix the problem.

What is your computer system and Firefox?

It is recommended that you let Firefox clean itself out. External cleaners have caused problems.

Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see
