1Password not working with 40.0.2 is unacceptable. How do I fix?

1Password not available in toolbar. This makes Firefox unusable for me. Is there a fix, or do I need to use a different browser. I see issues in the knowledge base with Firefox 41, but they imply that the fix is to go back to 40.0.2. I have the problem with 40.0.2.

You probably are eligible for a free upgrade to a newer version of 1Password. I know some users do not like the newer interface as much.

If you decide to try the Extended Support Release (ESR) version of Firefox 38, here is how I suggest installing it:

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent, corrupted, or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 38.2.0esr from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Rename the program folder, either:

(64-bit Windows folder names) 

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to 

C:\Program Files (x86)\Fx40

(32-bit Windows folder names) 

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to 

C:\Program Files\Fx40

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Does that install and run?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that old folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \Fx40\Plugins
  • \Fx40\browser\plugins

Firefox 40 is the current Release as it came out Aug 11 and the 40.0.2 update on Aug 13. So it is not a version to go back to.

The Firefox 41.0 is still on the Beta channel currently at 41.0b2 build.
