Java plug-in v1.5 doesn't work with FireFox 5.0? It's not shown on about:plugins

I installed the JRE 1.5 in a Windows XP. When asked if this JRE must be the default for IE and FireFox, I told yes. In IE 7 works well, but in FireFox 5.0 it doesn't even appers in about:plugins. I tried to find FireFox 4 to install it, but I couldn't find it.

Your "More system details..." shows version 1.6 installed. You can test here (may take 30 seconds to fully load): http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp

Why do you want the older version??

Where does it says so, can't find it. I see that it is installed Java Console 5.0.22, but can't see what you say. I wan't the older version because in it the JRE worked well, and the applet I'm trying to use, works well with JRE 1.5, but not with 1.6. I already tried the test java page with the same result: "No working Java was detected on your system."

I saw this:

"Next Generation Java Plug-in 1.6.0_24 for Mozilla browsers"

If you check, is it disabled??

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Add-ons > Plugins

I found FireFox 3.6, but it disabled the java plug-in and I can't find a way to enable it. I don't care if it has "security issues", what I can do to force FireFox to enable the plug-in! This is so frustrating!

You may want to uninstall Java from the Windows Control Panel and then go back to that test page to get a version that matches the browser you visit with.

Sorry, I forgot you don't want the current version. Hopefully someone else can advise on how to get the combination you want.

Oh I see! This is a mistake, ok that information was taken automatically directly from the PC in which I'm posting, but is not correct. The right one is the one that I posted, no the other... haven's seen that before. I've deleted that information to avoid confusion.

Java 1.5 won't work in Firefox 3.6+ versions.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Java_not_working_after_Firefox_3.6_update
Starting in Firefox 3.6, the new "Next-Generation Java Plug-In" (included in JRE 6 Update 10 and above) is needed for Java to work.

http://java.com/en/download/faq/firefox_newplugin.xml
Starting with Firefox 3.6, Java-based applications will NOT work unless you are running Java version 6 Update 10 or newer.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/p34

Java plugin 1.5_00 to 1.6 in Firefox 3.6 and later.

The new NPAPI plugin in JRE1.6U10 or later is not blocked.

The Java 1.5 was used on the old Firefox 3.5.* and earlier as you need the JRE 6 Update 10 and above for Firefox 3.6 and newer.
