In Thunderbird, is the gmail account a pop or imap account?

In the gmail Account Settings are you using Authentication Method: OAuth2 or Normal Password?

Did you delete the old password in Options/Security/Passwords/Saved Passwords, restart TB, and enter the new one when prompted?
