Four accounts: Rogers Yahoo, Office365, GMX, and a second Yahoo account

When Thunderbird recently asked to access to my provider's server, I gave my Rogers Yahoo account and password; everything looked fine. But when I tried to use my second Yahoo email account, all the folders contained the same data as the Rogers Yahoo account, even though the email addresses were different; my original emails were gone from the Inbox and other folders.

So I began to follow the instructions in Mozilla's page "OAuth2 Authentication for Yahoo, AOL and ATT". 1) with Config Editor, changed "mailnews.oauth.usePrivateBrowser" to TRUE 2) checked for "Accept cookies from sites" in Privacy & Security settings 3) checked authentication settings: All Outgoing servers were set to "OAuth2", as well as Yahoo and Office365 incoming servers. The GMX incoming server was set at "Normal Password" with no option for "OAuth2". 4) I am in Canada and do not use VPN. 5) Finally, I deleted the second Yahoo account (tc2002ca) and all its data from Thunderbird. I logged into Yahoo! Mail online to make sure I had the correct password. I then added tc2002ca as a new account using manual configuration. I entered all the settings to match the Rogers Yahoo account, except (of course) the password which was associated with the tc2002ca account. The result: same as before - all the folders of this account were identical to the Rogers Yahoo account.

To summarize, all the settings in the two Yahoo accounts were the same (imap.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com) except the passwords. When I "tested connection to server" in each case it came back "Successful". Please help me get back to having two Yahoo accounts in Thunderbird, as I have had for years. By the way, I have had no problem using SeaMonkey in a similar way. Thanks!

I am using Thunderbird 140.8.0esr (64-bit) on Kubuntu 25.10 multi-monitor configuration. New install, very little customization.

Thunderbird will not retain the window size or position for the main window or messages. I have have tried deleting both the xulstore.json and session.json files (one at a time and both). When I delete the xulstore.json file and restart Thurderbird, it starts maximized. When I set the position manually e.g. to use about 90% of the screen for the main window and about half the width and about 90% of height for a message window and then close Thurderbird I can see the new window size vales written into xulstore.json e.g 2493 x 1362 and 1501 x 1317 "messengerWindow":{"sizemode":"normal","screenX":"0","screenY":"0","width":"2493","height":"1362"} "messengerWindow":{"sizemode":"normal","screenX":"0","screenY":"0","width":"1501","height":"1317"}

When I close and restart thunderbird it reverts to opening in the center of the primary monitor at a smaller size than when I closed it. The values in xulstore.json have changed to 960 x 540 "messengerWindow":{"sizemode":"normal","screenX":"0","screenY":"0","width":"960","height":"540"} "messengerWindow":{"sizemode":"normal","screenX":"0","screenY":"0","width":"960","height":"540"}

I found a similar recent question if this helps with a possible solution: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1527783 but I cannot locate the referenced userChrome.css file to see if there might be something similar to try.

I am also using a multi-monitor setup. If I move the Thunderbird window to the second screen and close it, it always re-opens on the primary display at the 940x540 size. Thanks!

Since the firefox upgrade of March 4, 2026, I have lost all of my old emails in my inbox. These are important items I need to work on before I complete and file away. I need to gain access to them ASAP. Thank you.

I can't get messages from my Thunderbird account. When I click "Get messages" nothing happens and it usually says "Done" on the bottom left corner. I have to use my domain's webmail account to get my e-mail and it only allows me to read it and delete junk.

I really would love to have my Thunderbird account working again as soon as possible.

I subscribe to a number of RSS feeds in TB. This works well nearly all of the time but sometimes I find that TB has paused updates. I never want it to do this.

Why does it happen and is there a way to stop it doing it?

I have tried you help resources and have been able to get Thunderbird to run as before. I would appreciate any assistance that you could give a seventy-six year old user.

When I search for a name in Thunderbird mail e.g Lennart, nothing from 2026 comes up, only older mails from 2025-12-31 and backwards. if I search on his e-mailadress, e.g l.name@ppost.se it finds avery mail. What is wrong?

Thunderbird 148.0 moved trash folder from top group in folders pane to alphabetical order in lower group. Reopening Thunbird didn't help. How to get it back into place? Thanks!

I have been using Thunderbird for ages now with no problem, but I suddenly realised that no recent emails were appearing from my Gmail account. I have tried everything suggested on line to resolve the problem, including uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird, and deleting and re-entering my acccount details but neither the IMAP or SMTP servers will connect to Gmail. I have reset all of the server settings on Thunderbird, and have checked that Gmail is IMAP compliant (which, apparently, is is now automatically). I have spent hours trying to sort this out and am just at the point of abandoning Thunderbird completely, but I am loathe to do so if there is a solution. The latest error message i have received is "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password" but I don't know what else I can check or change.

Hi, somehow thunderbird forced me to use OAuth for caldav and carddav. (v140 on linux) Unless I've probably missed something this approach doesn't seem to have considered that people might use more than one device. In the past I had an application password per device with my mail provider. That password covered imap, smtp, caldav and carddav. The application password I could set with a specific name at my mail provider. If the device was lost, compromised or whatever I just deleted that one application password at my mail provider, problem solved.

Now a regular thunderbird setup has the application password for mail and 2 OAuth records per device under "Connected Apps" at my mail provider. But it is not possible to see anymore to which device the OAuth record belong, as there is nothing device specific coming along with these OAuth records, just an IP.

With that perspective OAuth weakened my security options, as I can only guess which OAuth record I have to delete in an emergency case. Did anyone who implemented that with Thunderbird considered that people may have more than 1 device? Maybe even more than 5 devices?

That OAuth approach looks unmanagable to me. Is there a way to switch OAuth off in thunderbird, until it becomes more useable in >1 device setups?

TB on Windows

Prior to TB 148, OAUTH worked for POP3 access to: Gmail, MS Outlook, and Yahoo.

After TB 148 upgrade: OAUTH to Yahoo fails, subsequent log-in page also fails. Both OAUTH to Gmail and OAUTH to MS Outlook still work fine.

Rolled-back/Reverted to TB 147.0.2 -- OAUTH to all works fine, as it did previously.

Note: YahooMail seems to have other problems. But I was able to confirm successful OAUTH and POP3 to YahooMail after reversion to 147.0.2.

I configured a series of "Filters" on my account inbox (imap), that move certain messages into specific (sub)folders. E.g. "To: certain@address.de" , filter applied when fetching messages "before junk detection" (German UI: "Filter anwenden bei: Nachrichtenabruf").

The filter seems to just silently fail and do nothing, since I also use my Android K9-Thunderbird app (imap) on the go.

How can I get my Thunderbird desktop filter to work again, even when imap fetching/accessing new messages with the phone?

I've moved last week from Microsoft Outlook from Mozilla Thunderbird on my MacBook Pro laptop for managing my e-mail accounts.

I've added an Outlook account (e-mail xxx@hotmail.com) to Thunderbird. However after using Thunderbird a few days I've discovered that some sub-folders in my private folders are missing.

I've added in attachment an image showing my folders on my mobile phone (using Microsoft Outlook) and an image showing my folders on my laptop (using Thunderbird where both 'Bureau' and 'Instruments & Lumières' are missing).

Hello I use Thunderbird on Android before, and now how can I synchronize data on Thunderbird for Windows?

BTW, the reason why I need to do this is, recently I found the Android terminal just did not show new mails even if I refresh it manually. I also need this help though.

I attached a 9 mb html file to an email and sent it. In sending it was broken up into 10 different emails.. In receiving it, I found 10 emails and don't know what to do with them. I selected all 10, and there appeared a window with the word "archive" . Which I clicked and now all 10 email are in a subfolder named Archives.. I still don't know what to do with them in order to join them together into the original readable file.

Would appreciate some suggestions...

I newly installed Thunderbird 148 on a Windows 11 laptop (after uninstalling a previous installation under a different user). I connected to a Yahoo Mail account and downloaded all the emails from the Yahoo inbox.

Emails with attachments (.pdf and .docx) visible online in Yahoo Mail do not include these attachments when downloaded to Thunderbird.
