So here is my problem. Why does TB have a "local folder" section, where I can create local folders to store say billing information, or keep receipts for car payments and the like. Then, I purchase a new computer to accommodate Windows 11, (DO NO get me started on that one!) So I reinstall TB, bring up my account, and of course NONE of my local folders are there! I've looked through the "Troubleshooting Help" and the "Open Folders" etc, but you have to talk to me like I'm a 5 year old! I'm not a computer dummy, but I'm not an expert either!

And the instructions don't make sense to me! I want my local folders back. I've spent a good amount of time creating those, and for a good reason. I can refer back to bills, I can help verify what I've paid and when, and I can back up bank statements and on and on! How do I retrieve these? There has to be a way right? Like with Gmail and the like. You should be able to get those items back....and it shouldn't take a bloody genius and com puter whiz to do this! I need a simple explanation as to how to retrieve these folders. Thank you in advance for anyone willing to help me with this problem.

Michael....

Hallo,

(new information at the end)

in an effort to understand why one s/mime signed message I received could not be verified by Thunderbird (140.3.0esr (64-bit) on Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS) (error 1041, "unknown problems with this digital signature"), but by all other clients I and others could check (including cli tools openssl, cmsutil), I did a few tests using my own certificate (using rsaEncryption, SHA256).

Inital observation: Messages signed with "openssl smime -sign -in msg.txt -to <email> -from <my-email> -subject test -signer mycert.pem -inkey mykey.pem -out signed.eml" and opened in Thunderbird showed error 1041. Any modifiers like -crlfeol, -text, -binary, ... did not make a difference.

Omitting signed attributes (-noattr) however helped. The signature was verified.

Further investigations now showed that the reason for that is a mismatch of the signing time in the signed attributes block with the RFC 5322 date in the header (or a missing date, which is the reason, the openssl smime output is rejected). If there is no match, Thunderbird shows a 1041 error (unknown problems with the signature).

However, I'm wondering whether such a test a reasonable. The standards don’t instruct MUAs to compare signingTime to the RFC 5322 Date. Flagging a mismatch is not required by spec and in my opinion adds little to no security value. The RFC date header can be easily modified and the signing time is openly readable.

Does anyone knows why it has been decided to test that?

My email provider calls its junk folder "Spam". Many years ago I had to set up accounts tied to this provider (IONOS) to have a Spam folder. Otherwise, account would not imap correctly to the mail server. Today I noticed that my Spam folder is not there. When I try to create a new folder, TB won't allow me to create one with the exact name "Spam," as if the folder were already there. What is going on?

I have over 17,000 emails in my inbox and Thunderbird won't let me send any more out. I tried to cull blocks of emails (e.g., all before 2024) but it wouldn't let me do that; it made me do one at a time.

Is there no way I can delete a whole lot in one go? SW

My c: disk is getting full, so I decided to transfer my Thunderbird profile to d: . My old Tbird profile has profile folders for two POP accounts and two IMAP accounts. I managed to copy the profile and set up new accounts and now emails work, but in the process I disconnected the old profile on c: . When trying to create a new account on c: (so that I can access the old profile to delete old mails and get more space) I run into either "incoming server already exists" or I am asked a password which I can't find.

Any help would be highly appreciated! Should I just delete the old profile, or is there a procedure to safely remove it? Or is a Tbird reinstall in order? Thanks!

Most of the questions I have are either not answered at all or not answered in help or in forums and I'm unaware of any responses to questions I've asked. Isn't there any way to get support from a live person? My questions are often quite complicated. When I ask a question, I get dozens of answers that have nothing at all to do with my question and I don't have time to look thru all the answers. When I do see an answer that might be relevant, it either isn't or the answer is far too technical.

For example, I have no sent folder. Cant understand answers that tell how to create one. Need to be able to save my sent messages. Having to cc myself to get a copy of a sent message - stupid situation.

I am switching from Outlook to Thunderbird because of complicated problem with Outlook. Got garbage when imported csv contact file and can't find how to delete a large number of contacts. Reluctant to use your specific Outlook import in case it brings the Outlook problems along.

Really need help with lots of things making the transition. 'bold text'

My (our) ISP started using new 'bigger/better' software. grrr

The ISP's tech support had me close (? delete ?) my Thunderbird e-mail account & start a new one.

I cannot access - use any of the ?17-19? folders. How do I, if I can, recover the folders so I can start moving relevant messages to them?

Good luck, remain WELL & be SAFE!

THANKS!

Hi Folks,

I want to seek opinion on how to manage the virus detected in emails (or its attachments) through Kaspersky Anti Virus.

I have large no of emails in TB stored in mbox format. Around 30GB in Inbox and another 5GB in Sent, etc. I also use Kaspersky Internet Security which has anti-virus also active.

Now my anti virus detects some infected emails. How to clean the infected virus emails / attachments.

Question: 1) When using mbox file on TB, is Kaspersky capable to delete ONLY a single specific infected file from the entire mbox data without any corruption of mail data? 2) If not, how to setup the anti-virus to automatically clean, disinfect and delete/quanrantine individual mail. ?

3) Is MailDir a better way to save emails in profile and use anti-virus. There is a warning on Maildir saying its still not settled and may have bugs. Is that true even today ?

Thanks & Regards, Tejas

Hello I am setting up a new Windows 10/11 Computer, with new virgin Thunderbird installation. My "old" TB mails on the "old" computer I would like to migrate to my new "Local Folder" and keep it for future reference (archived in read mode, but keep it accessible with the search function). How, and what do I have to move with the window explorer to the new W10/11 computer. I was reading up a lot but I am rather confused now. Thanks for helping

I have just installed Thunderbird, am continually getting "certificate for outlook.office365.com" not trusted. I have added Thunderbird to my Malwarebytes exception list, but the the notice continue to come. I have ensured that OAuth2 is the correct authentication method, but the messages persist.

Is there something else I can do to stop these messages?

Would be very grateful, thank you.
