My Thunderbird version 140.8.0esr (32-bit) started to refuse sending mails this morning.

The error message suggested to change the authentication method or if it still not working, my password could be stolen.

I tried changing authentication method, it did not solved the problem so I changed it back to original setting as seen in the picture.

I was afraid my account was hacked. I tried to send messages from my email account via other platform (the Web Mail service from the hosting company) and via my Android phone, mails sent successfully. So, my email account is safe.

Since it is my business email account, I have been using it on Thunderbird daily for decades and I never encountered this problem before. Problem just started this morning.

I tried to create a new Outgoing SMTP with same setting and deleted the old one, it didn't help.

Although my Thunderbird refuse to send out mails, it receives incoming mails as usual.

Hope someone can figure out this problem and help!

I haven't been receiving mail from a club I belong to. It was suggested that I approve the receipt of mail from the domain that sends the mailings for the club. But there is no mail from this domain in my inbox, trash, or spam. Is there any way to approve this domain? The domain name is email.onrsu.com

I can receive mail fine. Cannot send mail on gmx.co.uk acct, but gmx.net works on oauth2. But oauth2 is missing on gmx.co.uk It's just not on the pulldown. I tried a new thunderbird acct for gmx.co.uk but oauth2 is still missing.

I cant receive emails only send them. I receive an error message when starting Thunderbird "the current operation on inbox <my email address> did not succeed"

Can not send emails to a newly created outlook.com (free) account. Have tried dozens of different settings, approaches.

My current setup:

 - windows 10
 - thunderbird 140.8.0esr (64-bit),  numerous previous versions also do not work
 - outlook.com (free) account mail provider
 - POP3 enabled (tried IMAP enabling also) on outlook.com account
 - no 2FA or 2FA enabled on outlook.com account, no difference
 - outlook.com web access works fine
 - followed instructions in mozilla support article Microsoft OAuth Authentication and Thunderbird in 2024

 - have done a fresh install on a new machine without an existing profile.
 - have tried various microsoft servers, have tried oauth2, normal password
 - thunderbird account creation works just fine.
 - server settings and SMTP settings match as recommended by support article noted above
    SMTP server settings
        server name: smtp-mail.outlook.com  
        port: 587
        connection: STARTTLS
        authentication: OAUTH2
        user:  xxxxxxxx@outlook.com

symptoms:

 - receiving(downloading) emails works fine.
 - sending emails fails with following messages
     Login to server smtp-mail.outlook.com with username  xxxxxx@outlook.com    failed    followed by 
           Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP) . Please check the password and verify the 
             'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)'

Many people seem to be having this issue with no resolution.

Please help.

I have used "T Bird" for years, lately I've loaded it on another pc to access my mail and all the filters don't work, no log being written and no folders being filtered! Windows 10,Thunderbird 147.0.2

Any pointers?

Computer PC-A died. Had access to data

Recovered PC-A:CalA: ... users .... roaming ... <profilename> calfiles

Installed TBird on another machine (PC-B) Copied the three sqlite files from backup to same location on that other machine. Deleted WAL file. Restarted. CalA does not appear' on PC-B.

is the <ProfileName> in the sqlite files?

When Thunderbird is started maximized it overlap taskbar if is set to hide and taskbar won't show until Thunderbird is minimized and maximized. Another way is to press the Win key two times. Then the hided taskbar can be shown/use. The same thing happens to Firefox. Only when is first started. Then if Firefox is minimized and maximized, press Win key two times, press F11 two times then the hided taskbar show/hide normal.

It is a setting that can be changed to start Thunderbird and Firefox in full screen and do not overlap hided taskbar?

Thunderbird has a routine problem with being unable to log into various mail servers. I have four accounts and they all seem to share this problem.

Most recent update: I've tested this in Windows Safe Mode, and the problem has not appeared. Since I can't do any useful work in Safe Mode, it's hard to give it a thorough test, but so far so good. Also, I have removed AVG antivirus because it was redundant. I have seen no improvement since it was removed.

Can this problem be resolved?

Whenever I create an event in the calendar, Thunderbird creates it in the "Task calendar" and I want it in my other, email named calendar. Can this behavior be changed? It's so frustrating because I have to edit the event and all the attendees get a second notice. Thank you

Couple days ago my Thunderbird stopped connecting to Gmail POP server, returning an error that the server is unavailable. The Thunderbird version was way too old and didn't have OAuth2 option, so I updated to the most recent version 140.7.2esr. Nevertheless setting OAuth2 didn't help.

Then I deleted completely the Gmail account and all saved passwords related to it and created a new mail account for Gmail from scratch. But connecting is still not happening.

Receiving of cookies is enabled. The parameter javascript.enabled is set true. What else can be checked for possible cause of the authentication denial at Gmail's side?

I believe I'm on the newest release. I'm not low on disc space and I don't know how it would suddenly not have write privileges. I was archiving some of last years emails and it stopped shortly after that.

Hello, For 2 unsuccessful hours of trials, Mistral didn't help me, nor the configuration editor (but there are so many parameters...). On Windows 10, with Thunderbird 140.7.2esr : when clicking on http/https links in messages, I would like to make thunderbird opening my web browser but in private mode, while this mode is not the default one. I know the flag to use to run the browser in private mode from a command line, and it works. But i do not know how to declare it for/in Thunderbird. Mistral answered me that there is a network.protocol-handler.http param to set, but i have not found it or somewhat similar in the config editor. Any help would be welcome. Even better would be to be able to choose through a contextual menu how to open the link, as it is possible in the web browser. Thank for any hint.

I replaced this PC with a Dell able to use Win 11 (although subsequently learned it was a forced installation). The newer PC has now failed and I am tryhing to use the older Win 10 model to get back into communication. Automatically generated passwords, often having been changed, were stored on the newer PC. Now I cannot access them to log in to Thunderbird. Important passwords stored on this PC may not reflect te true picture. I am also not the most tech savvy user! Email responses will probably not get through.

I was able to locate the server, but it seems that the password is incorrect. I entered the password for the email service I am currently using, but it does not work. Could you please help me regain access?

Hello, I have tried to send several email replies using thunder bird but they fail because the smtp server times out. Or cannot be reached. I am a new Starlink subscriber and am wondering if that could have anything to do with the issues. The software is on my dell computer running windows 10. Any help or suggestion is appreciated.
