IMAP timeouts using Comcast email
I am having a problem with Comcast IMAP email. When I send an email, the email is sent immediately. But most of the time it takes between 25 and 45 seconds to complete the process to save the email to the Sent folder. Also, I have two account configured in TB and sometimes when I switch from one inbox to the other the circular 'wait' icon takes about 30 seconds to go away. If I send an email immediately after starting TB, the delayed save does not happen. If I wait between 3 and 5 minutes before I send the next email, then the delayed save will happen.
I have used WireShark to analyze the communication to Comcast servers and I think I know what's happening. When the delay happens, TB sends a packet to Comcast but Comcast does not respond on the open connection. TB sends multiple TCP Retransmission packets and when the connection times out, TB establishes a new connection and completes the save.
When sending email, the retransmission timeout does not occur when sending to Yahoo! or GMail.
I'm guessing that Comcast is silently timing out the connection before TB expects. I've begun to try and work with Comcast to see if they: 1) are aware; and 2) willing to fix it. In the meantime, I am asking this forum is there a configuration parm somewhere that I can set to work around the problem.
Any input on how to approach this is welcome. Thanks,
