Hey Team :)

my question is: Are attachments always encrypted when I have set up OpenPGP e2ee and choose "Require Encryption" when sending an email (I want to share a private key (of a mailing list) with someone)?

Couldn't find a definite answer in the help articles (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/openpgp-thunderbird-howto-and-faq, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/introduction-to-e2e-encryption, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/digitally-signing-and-encrypting-messages) or the help forum.

Thank you in advance!

Last year Yahoo decided it needed better security. Mainly I use my PC (Windoows 10) or phone (Android) for email but now I have been asked to use the laptop again. According to my research the solution is to use SMTP settings of OAuth2 viz

"update the Authentication Method' for the Pop or Imap mail account.

  1. Select 'Menu app icon' > 'Account Settings'
  2. Select mail account name in left Pane
  3. Bottom right: click on 'Edit SMTP server'
  4. Set outgoing server (SMTP) 'Authentication Method' to 'Oauth2'
  5. Click on 'OK'
  6. Select 'Server Settings' for mail account
  7. Set incoming server 'Authentication Method' to 'Oauth2'
  8. Click on 'OK'

Exit Thunderbird Wait a few moments for background process to complete Start Thunderbird"

Items 1 and 2 successful. Item 3 non-existant. Bottom right "Outgoing server (SMTP)" is set to Yahoo! mail smtp.mail.yahoo.com; there is no OAuth2 option. Further down on left is an option "Outgoing server smtp" but that opens the same windows as at bottom right.

Question: where do I find the option to set OAuth2 please.

I took my laptop overseas (from the UK) and because I was on a quite different wi-fi network, Gmail wanted me to verify my account and change my Google password, which I did. Gmail now works fine via Chrome. But Thunderbird now asks for:

Enter your password for [my email address@gmail.com]@imap.googlemail.com: and I have no idea what password is required. Whatever password I put in, and I've tried every variant of password that I can ever remember using anywhere, gets rejected.

If I did set up such a password when I downloaded and began to use Thunderbird I can't remember it, and I can see no way to get Thunderbird to remind me. I even uninstalled Thunderbird and then loaded it afresh, but it just restored what I always had - no emails in for the last 2 weeks (though I have them all on Gmail itself).. Any suggestions welcome!

Hi, it used to be that once i used or typed an email adress in thunderbird it would autocomplete this even if it was not in my adressbook but just used before. due to the unreliability of government and industrie i have never used the adressbook. this prevented me and friends from some malware and crippleware that was designed to steal my email adresses. However in the new thunderbird edition autocomplete does not longer work and this means i will have to create an adressbook. What does the mozilla organisation want with my email adresses? i can see no other reason to force people towards this action as to accomodate criminals or governments. Please explain to me why this is done and how it helps the user (that's me, not the nsa) because after 10 years i'm now seriously considering dumping Thunderbird as an email client.

Thunderbird puts some repetitive incoming messages in the "Junk" folder. However many messages that I designate as "Junk" are all from one URL (for example @spammername.com), but each message shows a different "From" and "Subject." These continue to appear in the "Inbox" and I must manually click each as "Junk." Is there a way to create a "Black List," or something similar, in Thunderbird, so that ANY incoming message from @spammername.com is directed to the "Junk" folder?
