Dear community,

As I am not very proficient with e-mails, I am writing to you for help. I am using an IMAP account with the thunderbird app on a Mac. I have the following problem:

While on a 5-hour flight I used my time to move around 500 mails into about 20 local folders. I had no internet access, but hadn't clicked on the offline mode either. Job done, my inbox was finally clear.

When I landed, my phone connected to a WiFi network and my mail client app refreshed. Later on, I opened my computer, connected it to a network and opened the Thunderbird app in order to "sync" the work done during the flight and wait for the 500 mails to actually get deleted from the server. To my surprise, I saw in the status bar that 500 mails were being downloaded. Now I have all those mails both in my inbox and local folders and I wish them to be in the latter only...

Is there a way to fix that and for those moved messages to be deleted from the server? Manually going through all of them and deleting the ones present in a local folder would take even more time then the 4 hours I have spent initially.

Thanks for your support!

After I updated to v91.4.0 and when TBird relaunched, I got all of my messages from 11/4/2021 to today (12/18/2021) duplicated. There are a lot of them and I wonder is there an easy way to delete the duplicates? Can I roll back to the previous version, or do I need to?

Plus, you have a problem with the update process for v91.4.0.

There are a lot of questions and answers around moving Windows Thunderbird data from one computer to another, and I have tried to follow all the advice, but still running into issues. One thing to note is that my "UserName" folder is different on my new computer, and I am trying to accommodate for that difference as well.

I've tried various ways to do this, each time uninstalling TB and deleting my Thunderbird folders in my \AppData\Roaming and AppData\Local\ to start fresh, but perhaps there is some registry key messing things up??

Steps Taken: I followed "Moving Thunderbird Data To A New Computer" article and YouTube video (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer) article, but it doesn't cover my situation with the new <UserName> folder. This is what I did:

1. Identified old Profile folder on OLDComputer. 2. Copied entire “Thunderbird” folder from OLDComputer. (Note, old <UserName> folder: “First Last”) C:\Users\First Last\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\4enlv7u2.default 3. Installed Thunderbird 91.4.0 on NEWComputer. 4. Started Thunderbird. 5. Did not set up an account. 6. Closed Thunderbird. 7. Replaced the Thunderbird folder in this folder Users\First\AppData\Roaming\ with the Thunderbird folder from my OLDComputer. 8. Start Thunderbird, and get error: “The file mailbox:///C:/Users/First Last/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/4enlv7u2.default/Mail/mail.blahblah.net/Inbox?number=7075&part=1.2&filename=STATEMENT.pdf&type=application/pdf cannot be found. Please check the location and try again.” 9. So, I edited profile.ini because the <UserName> path is different on this computer. • Updated “IsRelative” from 1 to 0. • Under the [Profile0] section, updated these two lines (Changed “IsRelative=” from 1 to 0), and replace the <username> in the path to just “First”:

IsRelative=0 Path=C:\Users\First\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\4enlv7u2.default

10. I refreshed or something, and got a dialog to Create/Rename profile. I renamed it from “default” to “First”. 11. I notice all my old email has loaded. 12. Then I restarted Thunderbird, but...

Got error: “Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.” Then it wont run.

What are my next steps, or how can I re-do this properly from scratch (I'm getting good at that) THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE!!

Merry Christmas Everyone. I have been using thunderbird for email with windows 7 for several years, and it does exactly what I need. One thing I definitely need is my own folders for different incoming email. No problem with windows 7 but I cannot find how to make them with windows 11 (old laptop gave up - had to buy new one). Right click on existing default folders or email name does not offer the option. All folders is ticked, as is folder pane. Hope you can help. Thanks

I recently migrated my emails hosted by Gmail, to another email host.

The size of the file on Gmail was about 8.5GB. When it migrated across the file became 17GB.

I can see all the folders on Thunderbird are all greyed out in italics. All appear to be empty except the Inbox, Sent, Trash. All emails do appear in the 1 folder called All Mail folder.

As a trial, I downloaded eM Client and Outlook. They both can see the emails in the folders and in the All Mail folder. That means the emails are in the folders, but Thunderbird can't see them. Thats why the file is double what it was on Gmail.

I've been using Thunderbird for a long time and have gotten used to it, and would like to continue. Is there a fix so I can see the emails in the folders.

I'm using Thunderbird 91.4.1 (64-bit)

Thanks for any help

My Xfinity email has a Spam folder, not a Junk folder. However, TB has it listed as Junk folder, so I am not receiving my Spam to review. I have to go directly to Xfinity for that. I tried to change the settings in TB from /Junk to /Spam, but the non-existent Junk folder link could not be changed. How can I edit the name of the folder or the link?

Hi,

I have been using Thunderbird with both IMAP and pop3 settings(downloaded and saved to a local file). My PC(Win7) broke down so I had to migrate data into new PC(Win10), but I can't find the correct way.

This thread (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1082172) suggests migrating old profile into new pc, then by using profile manager (with creating new profile using old profile folder) the old email can be accessible.

I tried this but this only produces new profile with renewed IMAP settings - no old pop email data. I've been using thunderbird for 7 years + with multiple pop3 email accounts, but the profile folder only weighs 200MB, so my hunch is that the pop3 data is stored somewhere?

Any help is appreciated.

I am migrating from ubuntu mate 20.04 to manjaro (kde). Thunderbird is installed, version 94.4.1. I have read the documentation on migrating a profile, here http://mzl.la/1ApHiU3. I copied my old profile to the new system, and put the file in ~/.thunderbird. However, when I start Thunderbird, it starts the account setup procedure, and creates new profiles in .thunderbird. I have also tried copying the whole file .thunderbird from old to new computer with the same result.

How do I get thunderbird to recognize the profile that is already there?

Apologies if this is an old, solved question.

I had the motherboard replaced on my Asus Zenbook 13. Asus unfortunately erased my 256gb SSD when replacing the motherboard, reloading windows 10 home only. I re-installed Thunderbird, and used both Carbonite, and a backup hard drive to find my profile & data. I was able to get a protonmail and a g-mail account restored, but I have lost all the local folders from appearing in the lower left column. I can see them by following this: ThisPC>OS (C:)>Users>XXXXX>AppData>Roaming>Thunderbird>Profiles>Thunderbird>MAIL_FOLDERS.sbd but cannot get them to load when opening Thunderbird.

As a 60 y/o man who has a minimum understanding of computing, I have read through about 10 pages of others questions regarding lost or disappearing local folders, without finding a way to restore my local folders. Thank You in advance if you can guide me in the right direction. Walt
