Thunderbird 91.9.0 says it cannot update and I need to download and install new version.

1. will this wipe out my current version? 2. How do I back up the old version/data so that it is recoverable?

I have things stored in some folders that I really do not want to have to singularly back up to other files and folders, as it would take me about 3 hours to do.

Any help apprecated.

I have set up a new server for all my web sites, including the domain I use for e-mails. I have changed the nameservers and e-mails are going to the mailbox on the new server. The e-mail address remains unchanged. I now want to set up an account on TB to access these e-mails. I've gone through the 'Add Mail Account' procedure, to the point where TB tells me 'incoming server already exists' and I can get no further. Do I need to delete the old account in TB and start again? I can do this, of course, but it means setting up a whole lot of preferences over again, which I'm hoping ot avoid.

I have used Eudora for years, about 20 or more. Now I find myself with a dilemma. A secure email program I signed up for must have ports assigned to incoming and outgoing servers. Alas, not possible with Eudora, but possible with Thunderbird.

However, after reading several of the threads of migrating to Thunderbird from Eudora, it appears to be problematic--new addons, missing mailboxes, etc. It's hard to tell whether that's the norm or the exception. One of the threads I read was https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1228297 "Migrate Eudora mail to Thunderbird mail", which suggests starting with Thunderbird 17.0. That thread is from 3-1/2 years ago. Is this still the best way to migrate? Or is one of the Thunderbird migration tools a better and safer option.

I have literally thousands of saved emails and dozens of separate mailboxes and I don't want to lose them.

I have been using Outlook for my email accounts, including Gmail, but would like to install Thunderbird as Gmail soon will no longer work with my version of Outlook. In the Mozilla support article "How to add your Gmail account to Thunderbird", it says that after configuring the account, "Thunderbird will download your existing messages and your Gmail will be ready to use." Will Thunderbird at that stage download every message in Gmail's inbox? My problem is that I have thousands of old messages in Gmail as have never accessed Gmail from my browser but from my email programs (Outlook Express, Win Liive Mail, Outlook) where I store messages in folders and delete whatever is not needed. If Thunderbird is, by default, going to download everything in Gmail, are there any options to limit this by date or any other criteria. Thank you for any help. Scotch

Hi Team, I love TB and have been using it for a very long time. Until recently I was able to access my profile from both windows 7 and Ubuntu 20.04. The current versions are 91.9 on Ubuntu and 78.4.3 on Windows 7. I have 2 users (my wife and I) and somehow seem to have got into a real mess. My wife is asked all the "new install" account stuff from either windows or ubuntu. For myself I can open my profile successfully (bizarrely) with 91.9 on ubuntu but hit the install issue on windows 7. I have in the past messed around with profiles.ini with some success, but so far I havent been able to massage my configs so that I and my wife can access our old profiles.

I have looked though some of the existing issues but am hoping some kind soul will explain to me: a) can I use latest code to access the same profile b) how to configure the magic, please?

regards, Paul

Hello,

So, my company want to trash their Exchange server for Gmail accounts. Welp, OK... but Thunderbird (last version) doesn't cooperate.

I tried to add a new account with the correct information. I set the IMAP/SMTP of Google as this is an other domain, SSL connection and OAUTH2 on both servers as needed. The Google window appeared, login and password is fine, I clicked on Authorize.

But Thunderbird doesn't want to create the account because of a sudden login/password issue.

The login/password is fine, I tried it on the browser and I did succeed the OAUTH2 process so this is not the issue. The Google account states that Thunderbird is indeed authorized.

Cookies are authorized.

I tried to change the password for something more stupid.

Heck, I even recreated a new profile without changing anything. In desperation, I even tried using the standard password method after activating the Less Secure Application in the Google account.

Thunderbird still refuses to connect to this account, with the same login/password error.

I don't get it.

Does someone have a solution before I shoot this retarded bird ?

Cordialy,

I bought a new laptop because the old one died. Now I tried to transfer my TB data into the new computer. I managed to do it BUT... only one of my two MAIN folder data is there.

Last time I needed to do that when my laptop died it worked. Now despite me using the EXACT profile path/name (eg, C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\XXX) in TB's local directory at my new computer only one MAIN folder's data is present.

Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

Thank you!

Many years ago, I had two computers receiving email. Both received a copy of each email.

I am attempting a move from my old Thunderbird (38.5.0 in Windows XP) to a new 98.9.1 in Linux Cinnamon Mint. I sent an email to the mailbox. It was received only by the new Tb. I shut down Tb and restarted it. I sent a second email. It was received only by my old Tb.

The server settings are: Check at startup, Check every 10 minutes, Automatically download, Leave messages on server, Until I delete them."

I can find no option to allow the email to be downloaded by two Linux versions of Thunderbird, though surely that must be routine for those who receive their email both on a computer and phone. I need a POP solution, since I can be away from either version of Tb for some time.

Help, please!

All the posts suggest

 Please see https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/all/

but that just offers the latest version (current 91.9.1) which won't run on El Capitan.

Other posts tell you to look at

 https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/releases/

but that only gives you the release notes for the older versions, without any download links.

How do you get the older versions?

I backed up the thunderbird profile as per video instructions to external drive. On the new pc I installed thunderbird and copied to the roaming folder the filed previously copied from old pc. After doing it and opening the thunderbird, it doesn't open as the old program, it keeps wanting me to set up and account and when I go to the thunderbird program I find 4 different profile names and i guess it correspond with the times I have tried copying the profile back into the new pc. Can any one shed a light on this for me please.

After a complete hard drive meltdown, I had to re-install windows (10 Pro) and then TB, which is now a blank slate. I have my old profile stored. But in it, my two primary e-mail accounts were POP3 (alongside a number of IMAP accounts) and I was never sure how to switch them to IMAP without having to change the e-mail addresses. And I always quickly moved e-mails out of the inbox into a series of local folders for storage. So pretty much everything I need to reference is in some kind of local folder. So my question is: 1. Is it possible to selectively import local folders from an old TB profile into my newly-installed TB? OR 2. Should I load my old profile and then try to change the two primary accounts to IMAP and can I/how do I do that while keeping the e-mail address? I currently have the new TB on my desktop and the old TB with my profile on my laptop with the "check for new messages" disabled on all accounts. NB I am 60+ and while relatively computer literate for my age, maybe somebody could ... to quote Tom Hanks ... explain it to me like I'm a 3-year-old :0 TIA for any help, Rebecca
