Hi,

I have a primary account with Gmail, and several alias domains (personal vs business etc). When sending email from Thunderbird, the Headers include "Return-Path", which reveals the Gmail primary domain on the account. No such Header appears when I send similar emails through the browser / Gmail web portal.

I would like to omit the Return-Path Header when using Thunderbird to send emails.

Thanks for your help.

I currently use the Gmail (smtp.gmail.com) outgoing mail server in Thunderbird. Google has notified us that as of May 30, 2022 it will no longer be supporting less secure sign in which I am currently using for the Outgoing Mail Server for Thunderbird.

I don't want to wait until May 30 to find out I can't send e-mails. Do you have any suggestions for a suitable free alternative? I am just using this for personal e-mails and don't require large mailing lists, etc.

Thanks, Paul

I have been marking emails from a specific account (local councilor in a city I lived in until three years ago), and still the emails get through. I have installed 78.11.0 (64-bit). I would have thought by now that three years of "mark as junk" would have got the message through to the junk filters; that Thunderbird would, by now, have learned something. Is there a hard and heavy hammer that can be used to state finally that any and all email from "Krzstzyn Wzng-Tzm <rzdzng@tcndp.cz>" is Junk? Thanks Chris Greaves

I like to quote the original email when I reply I have my reply above the quote. That part works fine.

However... it doesn't matter how I set the setting (i.e. "When replying place my signature"), it always ends up on the bottom, below the quote. Even when the dropdown says "below my reply (above the quote)."

When I hit reply, I'd like my signature there on top and then I can insert my reply above it. Now, I have to scroll to the bottom, below the quote, then cut and paste my signature where I want it.

Am I missing some setting somewhere"

Thanks in advance, John

Hello friends, is there an updated way to disable the daily update notification window that appears? ("A new Thunderbird update is available")

I currently don't wish to update Thunderbird, and the published methods don't work any longer such as changing app.update.doorhanger in config.

Is there a newer way to disable these notifications, or is a backgrade required?

Thanks for your time

Hello, I am trying to configure a new POP email address for the first time in many years, and I just need a bit of assistance.

All of my previously configured email accounts share the same inbox etc under LOCAL FOLDERS and I want the new one to do the same.

I know how to configure the account to use LOCAL FOLDERS for sent items, drafts, etc via the COPIES & FOLDERS tab under Account Settings.

But what else do I need to do in order to tell Thunderbird that I want to use LOCAL FOLDERS for everything and not have the email account show up separately in the folders panel?

I can't remember what I had to do years ago when I set up my other accounts, and of course things may have changed.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I was in two minds whether to post this i not as quite minor really, that said Thunderbird will be my default email client on several machines so may as well get Q's out of the way.

Changed the font size for emails and folder text which is spot on, the only other thing would be to have the title bars or column headers (subject, correspondent, date and so on) in bold as a quick glance makes them seem part of the emails.

This option is probably available similar to changing the font inside config file but I may not be searching for the right thing, 'headers' returns results for the actual message format.

On another note, in case this pops up later on, while dragging icons from the toolbar selection tray the 'delete' button didn't quite make it, the button is no longer in the tray (as an option) or on the menu ?

Many thanks all

Hi, I noticed that my Junk folder has no junk messages coming into it. I know there are junk messages present because I can see them in the Junk folder when I am in Windows 10 Mail - hotmail viewer. For example there are currently 44 junk messages - including 4 today., that I can see in Mail. None of these appear in the Thunderbird Junk folder, they do not appear in the Thunderbird inbox folder either. They used to appear in the Thunderbird junk folder up until a few days, or weeks ago. I am on Thunderbird 91.9.0 with windows 10 home 19044.1682 on a PC. The Thunderbird junk mail folder is empty, What I have tried is the repair folder option, - did nothing , renaming junk.msf to junk.oldmsf then restart and let a new junk.msf be created - no effect. I have also gone to inbox selected a message marked it as junk, then ran junk mail controls - the message gets moved over correctly to the junk folder, but nothing else gets added when I run Get Messages, only non-junk messages found that go to the Inbox folder. Does anyone have any ideas ?

I have been searching for a solution for over five hours and three different Thunderbird updates. My version of Thunderbird is 91.9.0 (32-bit). I have found several suggestion on things to do, but they are all for prior versions and the UI has changed so they all refer to pathways to find the default incoming message text size that does not match this version. I have tried every font size input I can find, setting all to 20 (larger than I need but immediately obvious when it works) and one of them did change all of the incoming message text sizes, but when I next reopened Thunderbird (for an update), it no longer persisted.

Thunderbird is opening and handling attachments when I attach a file from within MS Word or any pdf reader. In Ashampoo PDF Pro it is the File:attach to email command, it opens Tbird. In Foxit Reader there is a dropdown to attach by email, also uses Tbird. With MSWord, File:Share:Email: send as attachment which again opens Tbird. Or the other opeion send as PDF. In every case, Tbird opens to fulfill the command.

Outlook is my default mail client, it is set that way in Settings:Default apps: Email set as 'Outlook'. Yet if I attach a .doc from within MS Word, it will open Thunderbird. I keep thunderbird on my computer as well as Outlook, I use Outlook most of the time unless it is having 'issues', so I like a fallback mail client. As well I have in Thunderbird other offline accounts that are no longer active and Thunderbird is perfect for keeping Local Folders for archival viewing of very old emails, so I don't want to uninstall Tbird. How can I 'stop Tbird from being enabled when I attach documents from external programs as in these cases?

In file type settings, for .eml as well, Outlook is set as the default client.

I have several email addresses (for work, uni and private stuff) and want to keep those separate. But when I click a mail-to link I frequently forget to change the default address to the one I actually want to use. I'm kinda doxing myself. Is there a "normal" way of forcing me to select a specific address such as not having a default account or do I have to create a dummy account with an invalid address / no login credentials to use as default? Making the behavior consistent with the write button (i.e. using the address of the currently selected folder) would already help. Thanks

Hello! How can one define or set a theme in which the default background color and individual email styles are toggled to a more reable, less cluttered look?

Many other email clients allow for themes in which the background color and foreground color of text can be set.

Wouldnt it be nice to have a button, that toggles between: - Default theme with individual email following their own styles - Custom set easy to read Thunderbird message View window background color, Messages index background color, Text foreground color.

Is this something that can be set in the configuration or that can be hacked into Thunderbird? I dont like the dark theme, its too dark and gives me eyestrain I dont like the white theme, its too white and gives me eyestrain

The theme pack from Postbox are excellent examples of how people want to read emails in 2022! https://support.postbox-inc.com/hc/article_attachments/360097923194/pb7-screenshot-home-themes-3-short_2x.png

Where can I sign up to help as a designer? I would like to help design unique, original easy to read modern themes for everyone! Greetings!

I've come back to Thunderbird after 12-years on Outlook, and before that 7-years on Lotus Notes, 14-years on PROFS/VM. I'm liking Thunderbird a lot!

One of the things I can't work out how to do is quickly choose a folder to save sent mail in. Most of my email is around maybe 5-7 projects. For incoming mail it's simple, I can favorite the folder and just drag the email to that folder if I want to save a copy either in a favorite folder or in the IMAP mail folder list.

By default I've set Thunderbird to default to NOT save sent emails. When I do want to save an email, before pressing send I select send a copy to, navigate through the folder hierarchy and select the folder(see attached). Yes I know I could simplify this by having a flat folder hierarchy and naming folders proj/folder/folder.

Is there a way from within the reply window to shortcut or favorite sent mail folders to save the main in?

++Mark.

I am having troubles with my signature formatting from particular recipients. I have attached pictures of what is is supposed to look like and when the spacing gets shrunk down to nothing.

This is an HTML signature, so that might have something to do with it but I don't know.

I want to make sure my signature looks the same every time but I don't want a plain text or image signature because I don't want the extra attachment with every email.

How can I get a mulit-formatted signature to look the same every time?
