I'm setting up a new PC, and am using the same settings that have been on the old PC for three years and are in the Yahoo configuration guide: Pop3 inbound. att.net/outbound. att.net 995/465 SSL/TLS Normal Password

I've been at this for hours, and Tbird just won't connect. The error is "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password". I am stumped.

I was in two minds whether to post this i not as quite minor really, that said Thunderbird will be my default email client on several machines so may as well get Q's out of the way.

Changed the font size for emails and folder text which is spot on, the only other thing would be to have the title bars or column headers (subject, correspondent, date and so on) in bold as a quick glance makes them seem part of the emails.

This option is probably available similar to changing the font inside config file but I may not be searching for the right thing, 'headers' returns results for the actual message format.

On another note, in case this pops up later on, while dragging icons from the toolbar selection tray the 'delete' button didn't quite make it, the button is no longer in the tray (as an option) or on the menu ?

Many thanks all

For weeks, I have been searching everywhere for a definitive method for transferring my Thunderbird 91.8.1 profile to a new PC. There are lots of posts mainly covering windows applications and older versions of Thunderbird. One reoccurring problem seems to be that some installations have 2 profiles. Some have a profile with just a xxxxxxxx.default profile and others have a xxxxxxxx.default-release and a xxxxxxxx.default profile. It would appear that if you have the 2 profiles then the .default-release would be the one you would use for transferring to a new PC. I was wondering if some one could lead me to a current definitive procedure, for transferring a Linux based Thunderbird 91.8.1 profile, from one PC to new Linux PC . What to do if you have the 2 profiles? Can you just delete the yyyyyyyy.default profile?

Perhaps some one could comment on the following procedure that I have cobbled together from the myriad of posts that I have read.

THIS IS MY VERSION (UNPROVEN) Transfer Thunderbird (91.8.1) profile to new PC [v_4]

On your SOURCE computer [Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.3]

       1. Connect a device for data transfer, either a USB flash drive, or a USB SSD/HDD drive.
       2. Open the Home directory and click the “View tab” then check the box “Show Hidden Files”.

       3. You should find a directory called .thunderbird.
       4. Open .thunderbird and look for the folder, xxxxxxxx.default-release. Note; the x represents a string of 8 random alpha/numerical text.
       5. Right-click on the xxxxxxxx.default-release folder and select Copy.
       6. Paste a copy of xxxxxxxx.default-release to your transfer device. Remove it safely from the source computer when done.
       7. Uncheck the “Show Hidden Files” tab that you checked in step 2.

Note: a) These steps can also be used to create a backup of your Thunderbird profile folder.

         b) In step 4, you may not find a default-release folder. You may see a xxxxxxxx.default or
both. Choose the one that is active.

On your DESTINATION computer [Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.3]

       1. Open thunderbird and then close it. A new profile will be created yyyyyyyy.default-release, or .yyyyyyyy.default.
       2. Locate and open the backed-up profile folder, xxxxxxxx.default-release.
       3. Select all of the folder contents and choose Copy.
       4. Locate and open the new profile folder, yyyyyyyy.default-release.
       5. Paste the contents of the backed up profile folder into the new profile folder. Choose to overwrite existing files of the same name.
       6. Start Thunderbird.

Came out of Win10 mail, moved to Thunderbird. (Good decision). After much screaming and kicking I managed to get my address book info out to a text file, formatted as CSV. Very simple, 3 fields: firstname,lastname,emailname@emailaddrs comma delimited.

Used the Import function, aligned 3 fields with the input data, done. It created a file called "email contacts". All of the addresses came in. Then it got kind of strange. When I open the that file it only shows 2 columns. Col1 is "NAME", Col2 is "EMAIL" Col2 is correct but Col1 shows the emailname only snipped off of the full email address. If I open any entry in the address book with the EDIT button, the first name and last name are there, so the import worked. So the question is: How do I get the top level of the address book to display the firstname, lastname? Did I do something wrong on the import? I can't seem to find any way to add columns or re-arrange the display. The "select columns to display" menu doesn't have any choice that I recognize. I can re-format the source file any way I need to, is there a better structure for import? Advise needed.

I have TB set up for my gmail account and everything is working fine. However I have a folder on my HDD containing old e-mails and mail folders (these are files with an SBD or MSF extension or no extension) and I would like to be able to access these old-mails from my current TB setup/profile (or, if necessary, from a new profile - but in that case I would need some guidance as to how to set up that profile because I would not have an e-mail address I could use for the purpose). I have tried Local Folders~Settings and pointing Local Directory to the e-mail folder on my HDD but that doesn't work. Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi, I'm struggling to access my address book from my old PC, which died.

The hard drive still works so I have been able to access the old profiles (why are there 2?) and replaced in the install of this new machine:

"Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

So.. that didn't work then. I cannot even load Thunderbird now, just gives that message.

The original machine was Windows 7. I cannot run it, so cannot tell you what version of Tbird it was but it was reasonably up to date. Current install is the very latest.

So... what to do next? I can put a copy of the profile back... OK, can start Tbird again, but how to access the old profile with many years of address book?

Manually copying the profile files into the profile folder doesn't seem to work, even after removing the (new) originals. Rather than using the old ones it's just saying it can't find the newer ones, so I presume there's some way of telling it to use those older ones?

Thanks!

HELP! I've used Thunderbird since inception and love it. My dilemma. As of this morning, it was asking for a password? Strange. Of course I had no idea what it was, but through the help of this forum it showed me how to find it. I typed it in and it will not accept it. Through the help of this forum again, I found out how to simply change it which I did all to no avail. Still won't accept it. Grrrrrr!

So here I sit with important emails to send out and receive and unable to get anywhere. I even tried, "forgot password," but because I can't receive emails due to password request, I cannot get the link to proceed in that direction.

What now? I'm crossing my fingers and toes someone can help. I still don't understand why it would all of sudden ask for a password. My internet provider is Spectrum (previously Time Warner). I tried calling them to see what gives and of course they said they can't help.

I have been searching for a solution for over five hours and three different Thunderbird updates. My version of Thunderbird is 91.9.0 (32-bit). I have found several suggestion on things to do, but they are all for prior versions and the UI has changed so they all refer to pathways to find the default incoming message text size that does not match this version. I have tried every font size input I can find, setting all to 20 (larger than I need but immediately obvious when it works) and one of them did change all of the incoming message text sizes, but when I next reopened Thunderbird (for an update), it no longer persisted.

I have been using Thunderbird for several years for my GMail accounts, and have always preferred to download my messages using the POP and SMTP protocols, rather than use the IMAP protocol which leaves them all on the web. Google now inform me that "To help keep your account secure, Google will no longer support the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password. Instead, you’ll need to sign in using Sign in with Google or other more secure technologies, like OAuth 2.0. What do you need to do? Email software, like Outlook 2016 or earlier, has less secure access to your Gmail. Switch to Office 365, Outlook 2019 or newer, or any other email software where you can sign in using Sign in with Google." These changes are due to take effect from May 30th. How can I prepare for them and still use the POP and SMTP protocols after that date? Is OAuth 2.0 appropriate?

Hello! Using Thunderbird for some years now and very happy normally. Although after trying to send 1 email with a special character "å" in the address, that did NOT succeed, now everytime Thunderbid launches, it pops a dialogbox:

Dialogbox [Unsent Messages] [X Close] Do you want to send your unsent messages now? [Checkbox, Checked] Always ask me when I go online [Send Now] [Later]

Everytime I launch Thunderbird, it now welcomes me with the dialog box!

I have ZERO messages in [Outbox] folder and [Queue] folders. (Is the latter an official Thunderbid folder?) Both are empty. I have repaired ALL folders. I'm always online.

The email was never sent away, probably due to impossible character in email address, and I never saw the unsent email so I have not been able to delete it. Clicking the [Later] button dismisses the windows but then brings the problem back in the future.

Where is the list of log or index of unsent and still to be sent emails? Apparently Thunderbird knows something, despite [Outbox] folder being completely empty!?

I've manually gone offline and back online and sayed online like normally.

PS. read this topic which did not solve my problem! https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1072963

Any and all help is welcome. Thanks
