Hi, been using Thunderbird for decades and been of Office/Microsoft 365 for several years.

All of a sudden TB demands I re-enter the password? Enter correct password but goes into a loop. Check passwords in Passwords and they are correct. Logon to Office 365 manually and they work. Use e-mail with Outlook and all OK. Change the password but it still happens.

Was on TB 91.11.10 and upgraded to 102.0 (both 64 bit) but it has made no difference.

TB has got itself into a loop. What is wrong and how do I resolve this?

April 15, 2024 Thunderbird is Insecure There is missing functionality issues

1. How to Disable the "SHOW PASSWORD" Button in Security Settings 2. Either implement with a Password Password option, only to show the Passwords or 3. Allow the ability to Disable the Button

back in 1916-18 the ability to disable the "SHOW PASSWORD" Button worked with with a variation of the following at that time user_pref("pref.privacy.disable_button.view_passwords", true); I believe I created and used chrome.css or chrome.js

At some point this functionality ceased to work.

Now, I have scoured the Net to figure out a Solution simply setting the value to True, gets reset by Thunderbird, TB does not save it. it always reverts back to False and the button remains available and does not disable

I have tried everything, adding it in user.js, settings.js, userChrome.js I put it in every directory, nothing seems to work

Do I have to Lock it? - How? confusing and disappointing.

Please provide a simple step by step Solution to the problem

Thank you

I am having issues with Thunderbird not retaining my email server and passwords. Each time I want to send an email, it prompts me for the password and then tells me that the email address and server don't match. I have tried numerous times to correct this, but it doesn't hold the information. It also switches the server info between accounts. I have 3 different email account and sometimes only one works correctly

Hello.

I'm trying to set up Thunderbird to use GnuPG installed on my laptop.

Here are relevant settings I changed: ``` mail.identity.default.openpgp_key_id = "goose-new <wbg@angouri.org>" mail.openpgp.allow_external_gnupg = true ```

Then I create a new email, press OpenPGP -> Digitally sign.

Then I press Send.

However, it says ``` Unable to send the message, because there is a problem with your personal key. The configured key ID ‘goose-new <wbg@angouri.org>’ cannot be found on your keyring ```

It is correctly configured in gpg (and I can sign files with it).

Any idea?

(versions: gpg: 2.3.7, thunderbird 102.6.0, OS: NixOS 23.05)

Thanks for ability to ask for help.

I accidentally erased some of my email addresses and passwords. Previously I recall being able to access Password Manager to easily enter new email addresses and new passwords. That was some time ago.

I've attempted to follow instructions "within" Thunderbird but on getting into Password Manager where there are now only three of my 4 o5 emails addresses left, I could not find a way to replace the lost addresses and password. It was so easy to do so some years ago. Older users may recall old advice about using multiple addresses where the one attracting scams could be annihilated. I'll be 86 in a fortnight!

Humble thanks in anticipation - I'm still using Windows 7 and think it's the latest or near latest Thunderbird

I updated my comcast password recently. Now when I try to send an email I get error about password - dialog comes up one option being reset password. When I click this I expect a dialog to open allowing me to enter the correct password but nothing happens.

I went to saved password dialog and removed the entries there hoping that would force Thunderbird to ask me for password - no joy.

In the Beta version how do I update SMTP password? I do not want to recreate the profile because then I lose lots of stuff - I JUST want to update the SMTP password. None of the pages I find are helping me.

Starting from the app menu button ≡ or the main menu, choose Tools -> Developer Tools -> Error Console.

Copy the text given below and paste it into the Console.

If using version 78 or later, copy and paste the following text: openDialog("chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xhtml"

Click the Evaluate button.

If you do not see an 'Evaluate' button, press Return or Enter on your keyboard.

When prompted with the confirmation dialog box, click the Reset button.

The problem is that I don't see an "EVALUATE" button

This after I upgraded to the latest version of Thunderbird.

I recently got a new computer. I installed Thunderbird, copied the Profile file from the old computer, and imported it to the new. Everything works fine except sending emails from bobcaine@charter.net. When I attempt to send, I get this error

Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail: Outgoing server (SMTP) error. The server responded: impout008.msg.chrl.nc.charter.net cmsmtp 69.226.184.201 blocked. Please see https://www.spectrum.net/support/internet/understanding-email-error-codes for more information. AUP#Out-1130.

When I look up the error, it says

The IP address you’re trying to connect from has an issue with the Domain Name System. Spectrum requires a full circle DNS for emails to be allowed through. Verify the IP you’re connecting from, and check the IP address to ensure a reverse DNS entry exists for the IP. If the IP address is a Spectrum-provided email address, contact us.

Even though the error definition says, "contact us", Spectrum, they say it is not their problem since I don't get the error if I log on to spectrum and send email.

I have insured that the server settings are correct. I have deleted the email password and re-entered. I have deleted the email account and readded it. Something else is going on.

I am running windows 11 and have AT&T fiber for my connection. I have no problem emailing from other non-charter emails.

Help please, Bob Caine

The email works fine on the old computer.

I get a message: "This POP3 server does not seem to support encrypted passwords ..." My provider use only TLS 1. In the pas I have to set security.tls.version.min to 1. This trick doesn't work with 102.

I also try to set security.tls.version.enable-deprecated to true : no good result.

With security.tls.version.fallback-limit set to 1 : no good result.

Any idea?

How do I either: Setup a new password or Recover the old password (I never saved it) I wrote down the (old) password but either I made a mistake or something else, but that one doesn't work. Version 91.11.0 btw my gmail account no longer works because of a restriction by Google. (Google doesn't like Thunderbird I am told)

Hello!

After upgrading from a very old (but perfectly working) version of Thunderbird (24.3.0 on Windows 7) to 91.8.1 (on the same Windows 7 system), Thunderbird can no longer remember my passwords.

Apart from this everything in the new version works. Emails are retrieved fine when I enter the passwords manually.

Symptoms:

  • always asks me for my passwords, even when I have checked the "Use Password Manager to remember this password" checkbox.
  • no stored passwords show up in "Saved Passwords ..."
  • When I try to set a primary password (I did not use one so far), I get an error "Unable to change Primary Password".

What I tried after searching for solutions:

  • Remove files cert*.db and key*.db from my profile. Does not make any difference.

best regards

Edwin

After changing passwords at the email provider, it asked for and saved the passwords for the incoming server. It asked for the SMTP password for the first account and saved that (using that username) but did not ask for or save passwords for the other accounts using the same SMTP server.

So... email can be received on three accounts but can be only sent from one. Is there some way to add the passwords?

running latest TB version OAUTH2 settings done (imap and smpt) cookies and java enabled os is win7

Finally got TB to authenticate connecting to gmail account via OAUTH2 - only after full system reboot -- If TB left running after successful connection - mail works fine for maybe an hour, then TB gives a failure to authenticate error and no connection to gmail works. Closing TB and restarting does not help. Only possible to connect after a full system reboot. After a full sys reboot, TB will authenticate to gmail account and mail works. If TB is closed and restarted, gmail account authenticates _IF_ done within the first hour. Otherwise TB gives a failure to authenticate error.

Any idea what I should try next?

Thanks
