hi all, 115 changed some stuff on the main display and I'm not able to fix it or understand why. in the screenshot the "quick filter" smaller button is not needed or can be moved down as there is another one on the main toolbar (orange arrow) while the messages display toggle is not really needed as I don't think anyone use it daily. the yellow lines show a whole unused column not needed at all (and I don't really need to know the exact number of messages in a folder, or have it consume a whole column...). the green circle around the messages is because I can't seem to make the main display have bigger fonts. it's a messy display like that. how can I fix that? thanks :)

When I click on a "mailto:"-link in my browser (firefox, on Linux), thunderbird opens a window to write a new mail. So far, so good.

However, the "from" address does not belong to the default SMTP server (as set in account settings/Outgoing Server). Instead it picks an address for which I don't even have an SMTP server configured (it is an old address which I only keep around for archive reasons).

I could not find anything about that problem anywhere. All I found where questions about how to change the default SMTP server, but I already have set up the correct SMTP server.

I successfully copied my very large profile (a lot of mail) from my old computer to a new installation. I have done this several times successfully in the past. The accounts and mail copied just fine, were immediately visible on starting the program and using the old profile name. The calendar, however, did not open with prior data displayed. The file(s) in the 'calendar' folder in the profile seem to have copied perfectly (the size is identical to the source) but still no joy. I tried the "import" tool, which I've never used before, but it hung up. Any and all advice and assistance will be most gratefully received and tried. Thanks.

I've searched the support knowledge base and read through every help item I can find using the terms search, email and headers, but am not finding anything about whether it is possible to search for specific emails based on data in email headers other than Subject, From, and the message body. I am hoping there is a way to search other email header fields such as Reply-to, Received, Return-Path, and Message-Id. Maybe others as well.

Is there a way to do this? If not, I would like to suggest it as a improvement for both the Global Search as well as the Quick Search functions.

Currently running Thunderbird 115.3.1.

Thanks!

I have 4 accounts with different names but all with the same domain name (name1@samedomain.com, name2@samedomain.com ...). The first one set up perfectly and works. The 2nd and the 3rd can't retrieve mail from the server (didn't try the 4th yet). The SSL ports are the same for all. The passwords happen to be the same for all. (I haven't tried changing the 2nd and 3rd passwords as that seems unlikely to be the problem.) When initially setting up the 2nd or the 3rd I get a "Sending of password for user name2@samedomain.com did not succeed. Mail server pop.yyy.zzz responded: [AUTH Authentification failed." I've checked the passwords on both the client and the server ends multiple times and they are the same. Then, of course, periodically I get a pop-up with "Login to server pop.xxx.yyy with username name2@samedomain.com failed. When I go to the Account Settings screen with the 3 accounts and click on each Server Settings one after another, the only thing that changes is the User Name, yet the first account receives mail and the other 2 don't so everything is correctly set up. As an aside, I CAN SEND emails from the 2nd and 3rd accounts but can only RECEIVE and SEND from the 1st. Any help appreciated.

Earlier this week I notice that my Thunderbird was upgraded to ver 115.3.3. Now sending email using address book LISTS fails to save the email as draft and fails sending the email. I can send the email if i list each person in the LIST in the TO field. However, none of my address book distribution LISTS work. I use the LIST every week, so I know it worked fine with the previous version??? I even tried to create a new list and that failed the same way, so it looks like LISTS do not work in Version 115.3.3??? Is there a way I can go back to the previous version of Thunderbird??

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1) Closed Thunderbird and retried email using a new LIST; FAILED
  2) Reboot PC and retried. FAILED.
  3) Sent email to multiple recipients without using LISTS. PASSED.
  4) Tried creating a new LIST using recipients I know work. FAILED.
  5) Update Histroy:
        Version 115.3.3 Installed 10/21/23
        Version 102.15.1 Installed 09/13/23
        Version 102.15.0 Installed 8/30/23
  6) Last successful email sent using a LIST on : 10/17/23
  7) Retested failure with Version 115.4.1 (64 bit). FAILS

I have a camera setup that sends an email when motion is detected. The mail headers have a received field with a datetime corresponding (roughly) to the moment the detection occurred (as UTC+0). When I open Thunderbird it will show all the mails via IMAP with "Date" and "Received" as the moment Thunderbird will fetch them, not the actual received date. Thunderbird will remember these dates. Since all the dates are the same, it makes it impossible to order the mails by date received. Ordering the mails by subject is not 100% correct as the dates in the subject are not YYYYMMDD formatted (as UTC+2).

I'm using Thunderbird 115.3.2 on Arch Linux (x86_64). This issue was also present in 102, I'm not sure of 91, as I held off for Supernova before making this report.

Please see the attached images for clarification.

Cordiali saluti, Gianfranco

I have been using Thunderbird on my computer (and predecessors) for many years. I restarted my Windows 10 system this morning and Thunderbird has gone crazy. By crazy, I mean: - It is running continuously at 16+% CPU continuously. - The application deploys the UI but becomes barely responsive. It seems like it is an infinite wait while processing something. - The RAM memory usage just keeps going higher and higher, consuming many gigabytes of memory and going up to 80-90% of my 32 GB of memory.

I've tried restarting TB many times and did a complete shut down of my computer and cold reboot.

It seems like it may be doing some kind of repair or re-indexing procedure. But it looks like that will take infinite time and memory.

Any help or suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

I've installed Thunderbird 115.4.1 on my ancient Macbook pro, in hope of getting to grips with my gmail (which I previously read using Firefox web gmail). There are over 20,000 messages, and I want to find and delete ones with BIG attachments. Is there a way to order my view by attachment size?

The sort-by option lets me choose 'attachments', so emails with attachments are listed above those without, but the list is still ordered by date, and the attachment size is shown only per email when the message is selected.

Any clues much appreciated.. thanks Alan

I have a number of contacts where the email address reflects the person's position. Over time the person in this position has changed. Even though I have edited the contact to show the new person's name any incoming email still shows as from the old person.

For example Joe Blogs contact has email director@abc.com We receive lots of email in Thunderbird from Joe. The contact changes so that now Martha Jenkins now uses director@abc.com Now we receive emails from Martha but they still show as coming from Joe Blogs. There does not appear to be anything in the header that refers to Joe Blogs. The header only includes director@abc.com and Thunderbird somehow looks up old email and shows it as coming from Joe Blogs even though this is no longer true.

It is really annoying.

I hope I have explained this well enough.

I lost power to my PC when Thunderbird was running (thanks electrician who tripped the whole fusebox!). Since then despite everything I have tried Thunderbird will not open my mailbox. I get the screen 'Set Up Your Existing Email Address' shown in the screenshot. I can see my address book.

I have tried creating a new profile, copying across all the data from the profile in use until yesterday and changing the profiles.ini to point to the new profile. If I start using the profile manager (thunderbird -p) it shows the new profile but if I click it then I still get the same screen shown in the screenshot.

After looking at other support pages I tried deleting the .lock files and rebooting, still the same.

Under the troubleshooting information I can see the correct profile folder and open it, if I click about::profiles then the correct profile is in use.

It is a bit more complicated as I had the profile on a NAS drive but I have created a new profile on the PC and copied all the data in the profile directory to the local profile folder. Still the same results.

Edited: After trying a couple of other things - import into a new profile from the currant one, still same results, and changing the installs.ini file to match the profiles.ini one, also same results, I have uploaded a couple more pictures after looking again at other support questions.

I am on version 115.10.1 (32-bit)

Thanks for any help.
