The URL autocomplete behavior changed for me recently - it appears to be incorporating "top sites" to its suggestions. Typing "P" into the address bar now suggests "pinterest.com", "D" gets "diply.com", "C" gets craigslist, etc - none of these are sites that I've visited, they aren't in my history or bookmarks.

In firefox focus, I can turn this behavior off by going into the autocomplete settings and disabling "top sites", and it doesn't happen on my desktop Firefox- how do I disable these junk suggestions in Firefox Android?

I am unable to find a way to remove a single unwanted URL from the suggestions list on Firefox for Android. If the website I want to go to (and that I go to regularly) is called abcxyz, and I went to website abcdef once, Firefox will always try to autocomplete the URL to abcdef even though I do not want to go there again. I have found instructions for how to accomplish this on PC, but they can't be followed on a mobile device. I have tried deleting the cookies, etc. for the unwanted website and removing it from my history, but without completely clearing out all browsing data for all websites (which I do not want to do), I haven't been able to figure out how to remove a single unwanted URL.

URL autocomplete shows mail.ru

Hi Firefox-Supporters,

I use Firefox for Android for long time. I use

  • Firefox for Android Version 104.1.0 (Build #2015898515)
  • Addons: uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, NoScript, Decentraleyes
  • Autocomplete URLs (Settings - Search - Adress bar): active
  • Firefox for Android linked with a Firefox account and my Firefox Windows installation

Since about two weeks I sometimes get mail.ru as an Autocomplete URL suggestion when I am starting to type 'm', which should show mydealz.de as my by far the most visited website with letter m (visits: 10 or more / day). Sometimes the Autocomplete Feature still suggests mydealz.de. For months and years, it always suggested mydealz.de as expected, I have never seen any suggestion for mail.ru . Now I am wondering why sometimes mail.ru is suggested, as I did not make any (intentional) changes to my setup. Do you have any tips on finding the source for that suggestion? I was wondering if any app/addon or similar is opening the website in the background, as I did not open it intentionally.

Things I already checked/actions I made to find the potential source or at least fix the issue

  • Searched bookmarks (Android and Windows) for mail.ru - no bookmark set
  • Searched search engines (Android and Windows) for entry for mail.ru - no entry set
  • Searched history (Android and Windows) for visits of mail.ru - no entry
  • Delete browsing data (Android): works short-term, first suggestion after deletion is is monero.org with letter m, mail.ru showed after a few times typing 'm' in the adress bar.
  • Searched for newly installed apps on android phone - max. 1-2 new apps installed within the last weeks, would classify them as reliable.
  • Searched for newly installed apps and total scan for viruses on Windows Laptop - no new Apps installed, no virus found by MS Windows integrated scanner.

Would be glad if anybody got any tips on this.

Kind regards

I just opened up Firefox on Android today and suddenly when trying to use autofill to visit my typical sites, it's changed what pops up first to very popular sites (a good chunk of which I don't frequent); microsoft.com instead of marvelousnews.com, office.com instead of oafe.com, stackoverflow.com instead of seibertron.com, twitter.com instead of toyark.com, bing.com instead of brickset.com, etc. I tried looking in the Search settings to see if something had been clicked on that wasn't before, but I couldn't find any culprit that actually changed this.

Whenever I type "goo" into the address bar, it will prefill with "google.co.uk"

i haven't visited uk version of google in years and have been using .com forever

but recently firefox decided to offer me .co.uk version for some reason and now i always have to delete the prefill and type manually which is time consuming and annoying

i tried clearing history, deleted all history, removed app, reinstalled app, deleted cache and local data, logged out of my firefox account .. changed language to something other than English (UK) but it still thinks it needs to prefill the .co.uk URL

why did it go crazy all of a sudden and how do i make it stop?

Hello there, I've noticed that sometimes when I type a letter into the search bar it suggests a URL for a website I've never visited or searched for before. I've attached a screenshot of this happening when I type the letter "u" into the search bar despite never having visited or searched for that website. Does anyone know why this is happening? I know I can turn off all site suggestions in the settings but I was wondering why sites are popping up that I've never visited.

Installed Firefox on Samsung Galaxy Flip3 5G cell telephone. Launch Firefox and Google search opens up. Cannot get rid of Google search in order to go to a website using Firefox. Able to type in the web address in Google search but it won't let me open the website through Google. How do I undo this Google mess and apply the correct settings? The only other option I've accidentally come across is a feature to select one of six search engines. Step-by-step would be appreciated because I am not an IT expert. BTW, I am typing this on a desktop PC.
