Hi all,

(Firefox 56.0 64-bit, MacOS 10.11.6)

Keyboard shortcuts do not work in Firefox on my Mac, whereas they do in all other apps.

For instance, I can copy with command-c then paste with command-v in every app... except Firefox, which makes me use the mouse instead.

This is incredibly annoying, and is the same on my work machine and the one at home (both the same versions of FF and MacOS).

Any idea what's happening, and how I can make shortcuts work in FF?

Thanks,

Miche

Currently using Firefox 21* with 64-bit Windows 7 Pro SP1:

If I enable File > Work Offline, then Firefox will not retain the setting for the next launch. So it will always access the Internet (and complain if it can't) every time that it launches. There is no reason to do that, since security vulnerabilities in Firefox are ordinarily exploited only while it is accessing the Internet.

Although I am hesitant to edit about:config I can do that if I need to, but I don't know which line(s) I would need to change.

It would be best if I can launch Firefox with a command-line parameter to start with Work Offline. If so, I could launch it with a Windows shortcut which has that parameter in the Command field. However, Firefox command-line documentation ( https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Command_Line_Options ) seems a bit outdated, and discloses that it is incomplete.

If memory serves, there used to be a way to do this, but I cannot recall the method.  :-(

Thank-you for your time and attention to this matter.

  • PLEASE DO NOT BOTHER TO TELL ME TO UPGRADE TO FIREFOX 22.!! As I have stated in other contexts, Firefox 22 requires me to spend far, far too much time and effort constantly "adjusting" the view and magnification of text and/or of images. IE 10 for Windows 7 has exactly the same problem and I returned to running MSIE 8. The Firefox workaround is a kludge that does not produce a satisfactory outcome. The assertion that we can continue using the Firefox 21 display by configuring that feature is either wrong, or the setting is broken. IT IS NOT A SOLUTION!! If the Mozilla developers refuse to allow us to *disable* this "improvement" and continue using the Firefox 21 display, then we will be looking for another browser that doesn't waste so much of our time just trying to get it to work right. THANK-YOU for respecting my point-of-view even if you cannot see it.

I belong to Hallmark for the purpose of sending ecards. They recently changed their format - completely. It won't let me send any cards. I sent them an email about this, and they said I had to empty my caches first to see if that helped. Well, I used to be able to find the cache, but I can't anymore, unless history= cache. But I'm not going to go dumping anything until I know what it is. Please help this techno-peasant.

Where do large FLV video files get stored on Mac OS, Mountain Lion?

Firefox stores small FLV video files (less than 10 minute long) under /Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<user's profilename>/Cache, but it does not store larger ones (longer than 10 minutes). I also increased the cache maximum limit to 350 MB and I still have the same problem.

Where those larger FLV video file go?

Please help!

I've gotten so used to the "Press Tab to Search" functionality of Chrome that it always seems like an additional step in Firefox to go to the actual website and begin searching from that page's search box.

For example, whether it's YouTube, Amazon, Wikipedia, or any other site with its own search function, all I have to do is start typing "yout," Chrome will automatically fill it out to youtube.com with an option to press Tab to automatically start searching youtube from the address bar. (See attached screenshots).

Is there any way to replicate this functionality in Firefox?

Thanks.

Given that v. 47.0.1 is the last one to be supported on 10.6.8, the answer given here:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-osx#firefox:mac:fx45

doesn't make it clear whether if it is preferable, IN TERMS OF BEST POSSIBLE FUNCTIONALITY (not necessarily security), to use v. 48 and later ones, or v. 45.x.x.ESR until it runs out in 2017.

This in particular: "Note: Some Firefox features might not be available on ESR." has caught my attention. Is there a way to know which are those features that are not available?

Thanks,
