I just updated to Firefox version 64 and noticed that you can no longer turn off update checks.

The only available options are "Automatically install updates" and "Check for updates but let you choose to install them".

I administer a public access computer lab and don't want "A new version is available!" popups to appear while our patrons are using our computers.

Is there a way to turn off update checking in this version of Firefox? Perhaps in about:config?

Today I updated my Firefox Developer Edition to version 89.0b2 and now I just can not look at this browser anymore, "Inspired new tab design" is taking too much space and now became largest and at the same time least information-dense panel in my entire desktop! I searched around the web for a bit in hopes that I will find a theme or an add-on that will revert this particular change but no luck. I really want to revert to old UI look (at least tabs bar), there should be default theme or option to get back to old style. After some investigation I found userChrome.css but don't really want to install it (maybe this is actually the way of doing this kind of styling). Please help me revert UI design to old one.

I am currently on version 55.0.3 and have had the offer of an update to 56. I accepted the update, installed and restarted FF only to find that all the bookmark foders are grey [not yellow] and a piece of 'unwanted' software [something to do with screenshots] had an icon in the top right-hand corner. I note that doing a search for this problem on this forum, that in a post by WorriedFred on 9.28.17 @ 7.20pm, a post has been marked 'chosen solution'??? There is no solution - if there is where is it??? OR perhaps this is a new default colour style Mozilla have decided to use with this update - how inconsiderate not to mention this if it is so. And to add on a bit of software without permission is a disgrace.

If there has been an official response/explanation for this problem/bug could somebody please point me to it - I have run out of perming 56-bookmarks-grey-all-update in the search Mozilla bar. For the moment I have done a system restore back to 55 - nice yellow forders.

I just upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7. I reinstalled firefox, added the speeddial that I liked so much, and then tried to use firefox. I can't type the web address into the address bar when I start firefox. I always have to open a new tab before it'll let me do it. Also, I can't highlight and copy what's typed there - AND I can't "paste and go" anymore. Is that open gone?

My Firefox updated today and all of a sudden the color of all background tabs is black. I really dislike this, and I am finding it extremely difficult on my eyes. I did a search of help on how to fix this, and it suggested addons. I have no problem downloading addonns, but none of them are compatible with the most recent version of Firefox. Is there a way to change the black background of tabs so they're not so annoying? Thanks.

I can't access any Mozilla support through Firefox. I have uninstalled Firefox and redownloaded Firefox multiple times in an effort to solve the problem. I always send the Crash report but it seems to do nothing to solve the issue.

Sorry guys, i am disgusted with this upgrade. 29 does not seem like a good ui update at all. The menu bar looks really bad and so does the tab. Furthermore this does not solve my other tab issue i have either in another question i have asked.

How can i revert back to my last version with all my tabs/windows/history restored? I will do a system restore if i have to and then cancel all automatic updates. I honestly dont care if it gives me a bigger security risk.

Hi everyone,

I don't want to blame you, you're doing a great job trying to provide us with a free fully featured browser.

BUT there are too many problems from version to version.

Problem: print preview freezes (not responding) and Firefox crashes. This is with the latest version of Firefox. about:config shows that the user has the print.printer for his Xerox Printer and margins are correctly set.

If a do a "run as administrator" the print preview doesn't freeze. I'm have the feeling that you're going to tell me that this is a user profile problem and that I should destroy the user profile.

But honestly, this is a nightmare, your entire profile thing is an unstable piece of crap that crashes randomly quite too often. And as always the only solution is to tell the user to manually backup (copy/paste) all of his bookmarks because there's 99% that the user profile repair will destroy everything and that the recovery process will 100% fail as it always did when I had to cope with Firefox problems.

Is there any other solution that to spend 3 hours uninstalling firefox, reinstalling, pathetically try to recover the previous profile just to realize this won't work (because it 100% never does by experience), rebuild everything just to see the same crap happens again 3 weeks later after another 53 versions changes?

I'm about to tell my customers to cope with IE because there're way way way less problems than with firefox and definitely abandon supporting firefox for my customers. Too much time spent trying to solve things that are not well documented (the print preview bug is very old bug, last response from your team "yeah let's close it, let's say it's solved even if it's not").

Is there a documented how to "Repair print preview freezes (not responding)" in your KB, I've seen nothing, that works should I say, too much random "hack this", "modify this" that always ends up by destroying the user profile because 3 hours to reconfigure manually a user profile has more chances of success than the so called "solutions" you provide that involve modifying things for 1 day just to realize that it solves nothing.

I'm very very disappointed to say the least,

thanks for your help if there's any solution you might provide me with

How can I stop Firefox from stupidly updating?

Hello, I've gone through various steps to prevent Firefox 56.0.01 from updating to the newer, more disgusting 57+ version.

The reason I want to prevent this is mainly because the (legacy) add-on tools I require do not work on the newer version. The old Firefox is superior for my purposes, even for things like watching streamed content, the new FF offers a nasty green bar through the top and bottom of some, but not all, videos. However, I don't require a 'fix' for this, it doesn't bother me that much (since everything works fantastic on FF 56).

Here's the steps I've gone through to prevent the nasty FF 57 from updating: - I installed Firefox 56 to another drive and modified the name to 'Firefox (old)' - I made a separate profile called 'old' with the necessary options such as 'never check for updates' and unchecked the use of a background service. Automatically update search engines is disabled too. - I also created a shortcut, pointing it to the 'old' profile, so that profile is loaded immediately after opening this shortcut. - I deleted 'Mozilla Maintenance Service' folder in the programs installation directory.

I also have these options set this way in about:config - app.update.auto - false - app.update.enabled - false - app.update.silent - false - network.prefetch-next - false - network.dns.disablePrefetch - true

Now, it's important to note that Firefox 56 is still working on my computer, it's still functional, not only this but it worked FLAWLESSLY for about a week but now; my problem is that every time I open it, Windows presents me with a UAC prompt where if I click yes, Firefox will FORCE update 57+ on to my computer. For this reason I must click 'No' on the UAC prompt and Firefox opens and then says "Firefox couldn't update :( Download new version here" on a notification pop-up in the top corner. Can someone explain to me why the developers are of such poor intelligence or; are effectively lying to the customer about being able to 'never check for updates'? And please can someone review the steps I've taken and tell me if I've missed something? Maybe someone better informed than I can tell me how to stop this dirty update system once and for all.
