I am getting a certification issue when trying to visit 2 specific sites which are some of the most visited sites in the web: https://www.google.com and https://www.youtube.com

The error it shows when trying to visit these 2 pages, is SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER.

I have tried to troubleshoot it and follow the solutions recommended at: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/error-codes-secure-websites#w_the-error-occurs-on-multiple-secure-sites

however none of the solutions described in this guide worked to solve my problem.

In that guide, one of the suggested solutions is to scan my system for any malware. I used the following: Windows Defender Maleware Bytes AntiMalware Karpersky TDSSkiller however the results are all clean.

In the guide, it suggested that I check the clock as well. The system clock however is synchronized.

Last, I have resetted Firefox Profile but this didnt fix the issue either.

I shall note that the issue appeared yesterday and so far nothing helped fixing it. Not even the system restarts.

The issue about visiting these two sites, is limited only to Firefox.

I can access https://www.google.com and https://www.youtube.com without problems using Google Chrome and the Opera Browser.

Also, Google Mail and Google Translate work fine on Firefox. These two sites can be accessed with Firefox without causing any SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER errors.

Hi,

I always have dozens of tabs opened, if not hundreds. They have vanished. I’ve been trying to follow the topics on the matter, such as the one named ‘Session won't load’ (questions/1254740), to no avail.

Finally, this time I remembered not to close Firefox when I saw my tabs where suddenly missing. I’ve never seen the ‘Restore the previous session’ on the Firefox menu, and neither did I this time. Without closing the browser, I did a backup of the ‘sessionstore-backups’ folder. It contains:

‘previous.jsonlz4’, from 22/11/2020 17:42 ‘recovery.baklz4’, from 22/11/2020 18:57 ‘recovery.jsonlz4’ from 22/11/2020 18:58 ‘upgrade.jsonlz4-20201027185343’ from 31/10/2020 13:42 ‘upgrade.jsonlz4-20201108180448’ from 10/11/2020 15:05 ‘upgrade.jsonlz4-20201112153044’ from 22/11/2020 10:34

The one I need is ‘previous.jsonlz4’, since by 18:57 I’ve already lost my tabs. From the update backups I think I could also use the one from 22/11. In any case, I don’t understand what I am doing wrong so as to recover the ‘previous.jsonlz4’. This is what I’ve tried from different threads on my profile folder:

The ‘-backup’ and ‘OLD’ changes belong to different attempts

- Rename (on ‘sessionstore-backups’ folder) ‘recovery.jsonlz4’ and ‘recovery.baklz4’ to ‘recovery-backup.jsonlz4’ and ‘recovery-backup.baklz4’, and also tried with ‘recoveryOLD.jsonlz4’ and ‘recoveryOLD.baklz4’ - Rename ‘sessionstore-backups’ folder to ‘sessionstore-backupsOLD’ - Rename (on the main profile folder) ‘sessionstore.jsonlz4’ file to‘sessionstore-backup.jsonlz4’, and also tried with ‘sessionstoreOLD.jsonlz4’ - Copy/paste the ‘previous.jsonlz4’ file into the main profile folder. - Rename ‘previous.jsonlz4’ to ‘sessionstore.jsonlz4’

Nothing has worked. Once followed the steps, Firefox keeps opening my startup page. Note that it does not restore my previous session (that is, some tabs regarding this same subject), but my startup page, which means my attempts are having some effect, although not the desired one. I do have the ‘Restore previous session’ checkmarked in ‘Setting/General/Startup.

I also tried to replace ‘recovery.baklz4’ (on ‘sessionstore-backups’ folder) with ‘previous.jsonlz4’, from 22/11/2020 17:42, hoping to be prompted with the ‘Well, this is embarrassing’ + ’Restore’ window. I had no success.

I’ve been trying to recover my tabs for hour by now and don’t find what I am doing wrong. Why does Firefox refuse to load my ‘previous.jsonlz4’ file? Am I missing something? Maybe ‘previous.jsonlz4’ is corrupted or something? Should I try to use the ‘upgrade.jsonlz4-20201112153044’ from 22/11/2020 10:34 file? (Although I would lose some information)

Some people talk about a ‘History > Restore Previous Session’. I cannot find anything similar.

Thank you very much

Hey!

First time I get that, I usually lose my tabs due to my mistake but this morning after starting my PC all the tabs were gone with no option to restore or any error message. I backed up my previous session json and other files by hand but every time i copy it back into my profile folder and rename it sessionstore.jsonlz4 it just gets deleted after I open firefox and none of my old tabs get loaded. I scrounged the files before and saw that they contain my lost tabs, I just can't seem to restore them. I tried reinstalling firefox too but that didn't help.

Did the restore system change or is the backup corrupt ? Thanks!

Hello Everyone

I'm having troubles with playing some Youtube-Videos and Twitter Videos. I had to re-install my Windows 10 (64 Bit) due to some hardware-issues which are not related, and I'm having this issue since then. Here are the steps that I already did:

-Removing all Add-Ons -Starting in Safe mode - Deinstalling and reinstalling Firefox, then starting in safe Mode -Deinstalling Firefox with a tool that also deletes all Firefox-Related Registry Keys and App-Data Files and reinstalling it to a different path (other HD) -Disabling add-ons - Disabling Open264 Videocodec and widevine content decryption module (more just because of frustration^^, but I was then able to play some Youtube videos after this one) - mediasource.enabled is active (and all the other ones as well) -Installed addons (even though it didn't work with them disabled as well): NOscript( youtube videos are allowed, some of the are working), Ublock Origin, Video Download Helper, HTTPS Everyhwere, Tree Style Tab, Limit distracting sites - Updating to the newest Firefox-Version (which came out today)

Btw: on https://www.youtube.com/html5/ it tells me that everything works fine and I have of course the newest Firefox-Version installed.

Do you guys may have any other ideas?

Thank you for your help.

Kind regards,

Gabe

I have been using Firefox for ages now, and collected a rather large number of bookmarks (>15,000) As far as I know such a number poses some issues, for instance I tried several times to use Sync but was never able to use it.

Since I am using two different machines, I tend to save my bookmarks only on the main one. When I am working on the laptop I never save bookmarks but I message them to myself (never been able to save them on my main machine, sigh) and every once in a while I "restore" bookmarks from the backup set of the main machine on the laptop. It always takes a while and oftentimes it feels like the process hangs, but so far I managed.

Today I started wondering again if there's a less frustrating and more efficient way to handle this. The question I started asking myself was: could I use the same FF profile from the laptop & the main machine? Say by saving it in the cloud?

Thanks for any hint or suggestion!

Firefox Design. Continously and automatically backing up Sessions to an additional file and folder of my choice

A problem I'm not sure Firefox has addressed or resolved in all the years I've been using Firefox - even after it changed its programming, and the way it saves session (o… (read more)

A problem I'm not sure Firefox has addressed or resolved in all the years I've been using Firefox - even after it changed its programming, and the way it saves session (or even bookmark) backups to the profile folder, is: whenever Firefox is forced to shut down after a computer software issue (like freezing, blue screen, extreme sluggishness, etc.), and we presume (with fingers crossed) that Firefox will open back up with all our tabs intact for the past 7 - 20 days, but instead opens with them all missing and forever gone - even after immediately and instinctively proceeding to the profile folder (before shutting down Firefox) to recover them using Mozilla's recovery steps to replace the "places.sqlite" file, I periodically find that every single one of the recovery files has been re-stamped with the same date and time (and missing data) as the new places.sqlite file.

So I hope and pray, that because this issue happens to thousands of Firefox users over time - no matter what Firefox version update their using (because it has happened in several versions for me), that a terrific way to prevent forcing users to find and use a great sessions manager addon that saves tabs (with all their history - that won't also crash or easily be written over), or forcing users to constantly worry and remind themselves to manually backup the required profile files daily, or having to remember minimally, to backup the profile files "before" opening Firefox after a crash, (which seldom happens), that Firefox offers its users the option to set Firefox up to continuously and automatically save a complete new (additional) set of backup files to a different folder of the user's choosing, with the extra option to save a "set" number of session backups, where Firefox can't access them upon opening. Imagine how much anguish, anger and self loathing Firefox will eliminate in the world with this one simple option.

Here's another wish-list item. If Firefox could present the list of open Firefox windows that appear at the top right of the screen whenever hovering the mouse over the Firefox icon in the taskbar, I wish for the popup list to permanently nudge down so it "never" covers up my open tabs in each of the open window's (which is how I know I determin which of the numerous windows to navigate). And of course the list should self adjust whenever I turn the "Menu Bar" on or off. Thank you, in advance, for considering these two important items toward the Firefox experience.

If you're wondering why I haven't moved on to the latest version. It's because I all too "often" encounter my valuable "business" addons no longer working, and the miserable task of trying to go back to the previous version, or trying to find new addons that work half as good. Sometimes all of my addons disappear. I also wish I could turn off Firefox's constant reminder, to upgrade since I've asked twice before, with no Mozilla reply. Thank you again.

Don't you think that if browsers rehabilitate a native "RSS one click subscribe" feature, with better UX (RSS actions/reader nicely integrated to the browser) it could revolutionize the way we subscribe to content updates, removing the need to rely on emails/newsletters in a lot of cases (then being more eco-friendly)? Users would receive content updates notifications directly in the browser, their feeds being synchronized through their browser account, etc.

Web developpers would just have to place subscription buttons: <input type="subscribe">

And a W3C Standard would unify how browsers should implement the "Subscription" feature, focusing on UX (I feel this is the point influencing usage data for the most part, RSS still being a tech-savvy thing).

Feeds handling was removed in 2018 in Firefox.

Hi, I just updated to Firefox Developer 83.0b4 and the two-finger scroll sensitivity has been drastically reduced with no clear way to reconfigure it. I've spent the past 30 mins tweaking scroll settings in `about:config` (restarting FF after each value change) to no avail. In fact, it doesn't even appear that enabling/disabling `general.smoothScroll` or `general.smoothScroll.mouseWheel` have any noticeable effect, let alone the many other options listed. Are there any pages that describe the myriad options in `about:config` so that I can take a more measured approach to troubleshooting this issue?

What changed? And why? Chrome did this same thing at v68 without ever providing any way to configure it and FF has been my main browser since. I'm just trying to understand how such a significant input change can happen overnight without any explanation or any way to fix it.

I Googled about stopping using Firefox beta and transition to release version but none of the pages I found in this forum talks about an error message about user profile that only gives me the option to Create a New Profile (therefore losing all my add-ons, cookies, settings and everything) or Exit.

I tried manually googling "download Firefox" and downloaded the release version and after installing it, I get the warning message above. This thread here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1224888 has a link to the rapid release version but I end up in the same warning message.

Since the beta will necessarily always be a newer version than a release version, how do I transition from beta to a release version but preserve all my settings, add-ons and everything if Firefox will tell me that it won't let me use my existing profile in an older version, the release version?

My motivation to leave the beta version is that Firefox started having a bug since 27-Oct-2020 in Google meetings where either a shared screen or the camera image of the person in a meeting appears very zoomed in in the top left corner so it doesn't show the rest of the image.

This question is about the developer tools (inspector). Sorry if this is not the right forum. If this is not the right place, please specify where I can ask this question. I have looked around but this seemed like the best place to write this.

This problem started a couple a month ago in Firefox Developer Edtion after an automatic update (to either v82 or 83, im not sure).

This is what used to be the case, prior to the update: In the developer tools, in the inspector tab. There's an overview of the HTML-tree, and when you hover over an html-element in the tree, the correspondent element in de browser window is highlighted, and when you move your mouse the item will no longer be highlighted, since you're no longer hovering over it in the HTML tree. This is how it has always been.

The situation as it has been for 2 to 4 weeks: After selecting a couple of items in de HTML tree, and maybe editing some CSS, so just after normal use, The selected element will stay highlighted, even though I'm no longer hovering over it in the Inspector window. I added a screenshot to show what I mean. This bug is annoying because when editing CSS, I want to be able to clearly see the changes I mean, but now theyre obstructed by the highlight. Toggling developer tools by pressing F12 twice fixes this obviously, but only for a couple of minutes, and sometimes the problem return immidiatly.

This problem first emerged in Firefox Developer Edition about a month ago after an update. It really messes with my workflow, and I couldnt find a solution. Tee problem emerged on multiple websites (not just the ones a was developing, as you can see in my screenshot it also happens on the mozzila website) and the problem was the same accros multiple computers (all modern windows 10 machinary, owned by me or my collegues). So I stopped using Developer Edition, and switched to using 'regular' Firefox for developing, as regular Firefox did not exibit this bug. But since last week, after regular Firefox also got an update, the bug appears in regular Firefox aswell.

So here I am, an avid Firefox Developer Edition user, desperate for a solution. Ofcourse I already tried everything from reïnstalling, refreshing firefox, everything.

Thanks
