How can I have my bookmarks in a drop-down list again instead of having to open them in a side bar?

I'm using the ESR version with Windows because my bank site still uses Java. When I upgraded to 52.9, the new version now opens a sidebar when I click on the bookmarks tab and it's on the other side of the screen. So now, I have to click the toolbar icon on the tight of the screen, then select and click the bookmark option on the drop-down list which opens a side bar on the left side of the screen. Now I have to scroll to the other side of the screen, select the bookmark I want from the side bar and then close the sidebar to have the page I want full screen again. Before, there was a separate bookmark toolbar icon that I could simply click and scroll down to the bookmark I wanted and select it and, because it was a drop-down menu, I didn't have to do all the additional clicking around to navigate, and the drop-down menu list would behave as all drop-down menu lists do, it would disappear and get out of my way after I made a selection, and the toolbar icon was always available to me to choose other bookmarks without having to have a side bar pinned to my screen. So, my question is simple enough: How can I put my bookmarks back into a simple drop-down menu from the tool bar?

Firefox version 52 ESR Win XP OS. Silverlight plug-in stopped working just yesterday on Netflix and my Win XP Pro OS. I have uninstalled the older version and downloaded the correct version I need 5.1.4.1.2 and it is installed but still doesn't work with Netflix. I cannot find in the registry Netflix and Silverlight permission to run the plug in. This is a problem and needs to be fixed. I don't have the money or means to upgrade my OS at this time. I have no tv either. I have been in contact with Microsoft and Netflix and they determined that the problem lies with Mozilla. I cannot use any other browser as Chrome does not work with Netflix and Win XP either due to unable to update WidevineCdm on XP.

Often, some link will throw a popup and suddenly my horizontal and vertical scrollbars are gone. I have to go into about:config and turn dom.disable_window_open_feature.scrollbars to false, then restart Firefox.

Is there a way to prevent the scrollbars from being changed.

OR

Is there an easier way to turn them back on? A link? An easy script. It's a pain right now that this happens.

Thanks

Firefox ESR 52.9.0 EOL: Drop dead date

Ever since Quantum came out, I have looked and looked for a replacement browser; however, Firefox ESR seems to be the best replacement. I just read the ESR lifecycle plan and noticed that 52.9.0 is going to end on 28 August 2018. Does that mean there are not any plans to keep pre-Quantum Firefox around?

I know this is a Mozilla forum, so I'm asking this in no hopes of getting an answer, but, if that's the case, does anybody know of a browser that can be made as secure as Firefox 52.x ESR? Note: I use a specific set of addons to help control what comes through my browser; for example, we have seen many Javascript attacks on systems trying to exploit the Meltdown/Spectre problems. In Quantum, I am wide open as the so-called JS toggle addons do nothing but obfuscate JS rather than switch the flag in about:config.

Thank you in advance.

I have a PDF document which has an A4 page dimension displayed in the Firefox build in PDFViewer. The text on it is exactly positioned and should stay that way when printed as well. Originally when printing, the page was shrinked and had a bigger border. Now I found out that it was partially related to the print_shrink_to_fit flag, that you can define specific for the printer in about:config. The print dialog did not allow me to change the flag, so I changed it in about:config to flase. But now I still have the problem that the document has a border which is not part of the document and shifts the text to the bottom and right. Using "inspect element" in the Firefox browser I found the border defined in the class pdfViewer in the viewer.css file which is part of the internal PDF viewer I believe. I have not found any option which allows me to remove that border. Can you tell me how to do this? I'm working on Windows 10 with the most current Firefox 55.0.3 32bit browser.

Hi folks,

I've been using Firefox since forever. Today I changed (or should I say upgraded?) my Windows from 7 to 7 Ultimate and now every time I close Firefox, it deletes all my history. It keeps nothing. I've tried many different version of Firefox (from 58 to 44) but the problem is still there. Privacy > History > Remember History is checked and I haven't changed any of the settings. What should I do? Now I have to copy-paste the URL of this very page, because once I close the Firefox, it'll delete the history!

Many thanks in advance.

For instance, how do I change the proxy using only the keyboard?

I'm trying to use the instructions at https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox/Enterprise_deployment to configure Firefox ESR 52.5.2 in a Mac environment. I followed all the instructions but the settings weren't being applied.

I followed the instructions at https://mike.kaply.com/2016/09/08/debugging-firefox-autoconfig-problems/ for troubleshooting. I was able to go into about:config and search for "general.config" and it came up with the expected values (general.config.filename pointed to mozilla.cfg, so I know the .js file is being read correctly). As per the troubleshooting instructions I also simplified the .cfg file so that it only contained:

// First line is always a comment lockPref("a.b.c.d", "e.f.g.h");

The file is definitely saved as a .cfg file, not as a .txt file. After closing and reopening Firefox it didn't show the "a.b.c.d" under about:config (I also tried using ' instead of " after lockPref and it didn't make any difference).

Any ideas about what I can do to fix this? I checked the permissions on the .cfg file and they grant everyone Read only access.

I am currently on Firefox v52.5.0 ESR and I want to stay there, because the new Quantum is useless to me. Unfortunately, I didn't set my update to never before the latest round of automatic updates. Everytime I bring Firefox up, it starts the update before I can set the update switch to never. I then wind up on v60+, and I do NOT want to be there. How do I go about installing v52.5.0 and having it stay there?

Since I've updated to FF57, I have problems with some websites (but not all).

After some troubleshooting, it seems that deleting "offline web site data" is the culprit. (Clear history when Firefox closes -> offline web site data)

Why is that? I had this option selected before and I never had a problem with these same websites. Another example is youtube's audio volume, now every time I open youtube the volume is at full blast, before it remembered the settings, not matter how many times I restarted Firefox or rebooted the system.

I seem also the have the same problem with LastPass (instead of asking once every 30 days, it asks for my OTP every time I use it), but I still have to determine if it is their fault or it is still caused by the same option.

A long time ago Firefox limited the usefulness of the autocomplete feature in the Address Bar (also called location bar or 'Awesome bar') by making the list of visited URLs and bookmarks shorter and not scrollable. In that way I felt I lost access to half of my history and bookmarks. How can I get it back?

PS: I am currently using Firefox ESR because my favourite addons do not work in Webextension. Actually I think it's quite sad how Webextensions limits Firefox.
