Quite frequently, one has to delete cookies to resolve issues with a particular Web site.

In earlier versions of Firefox, "Show cookies" was more accessible. Now it's buried -- you have to choose the faux "Use custom settings for history" option from the Privacy>History drop-down. (I call it "faux" because settings are not retained, the drop-down reverts to Remember History.)

After choosing "Use custom settings for history", the "Show cookies" button appears, then you can go about your business deleting cookies.

I cannot understand why Mozilla has made such a commonly used feature so hard to find. Why the additional clicks to see the "Show Cookies" button? It doesn't seem to be part of the so-called custom settings either -- I've selected "Use custom settings for history" dozens if not hundreds of times and I still have to dig to see "Show cookies."

This is looking like bad usability to me -- or am I missing some rationale that justifies this decrease in utility from earlier FF versions?

PS I need to delete cookies so often, if I had my druthers, I'd put "Show cookies" in the History or Tools menu.

webm video jumping to end in FF, under Win-XP

I've been converting some of my wedding videos to the newer HTML5 <video> tags methodology. To satisfy a reasonable number of case, I supply MP4, WEBM, and OGG source file, and a fallback to flash FLV viles via a javascript call to my own player. The videos are supplied in that order, and since FF doesn't support MP4, it will pick up on the WEBM version and attempt to play that. The result was that instead of playing the video, FF will spend a minute downloading the whole file, and then jump all the way to the end. If the viewer were not paying attention to the file pointer, they'd likely think nothing happened. But on further inspection, manually moving the pointer anywhere beyond the first 5 seconds of the video will result in normal playing from there, provided you wait for the page to finish loading. I've included a simplified version of one of these pages here (its fun to look at anyway), and will keep it available for anyone wishing to view the page source.

http://pixyland.org/peterpan/OurWedding2a.html

Other important findings:

1) This problem is limited to the XP (pro-SR3) version of FF, and was shown to recur on 3 different XP machines. I've tested with all versions from 31 through the latest (34 as of this writing). The problem does not happen with Win-7, nor on Chrome on either machine.

2) I have taken the obvious steps of ensuring my .htacess file serves the correct mime types. Note however that the problem is identical (though without the page load time) when I point my browser(s) at a working copy of page on my local (XP) machine, so this should not have anything to do with a server side problem.

3) All video files were prepared using a current version of ffmpeg, and tested with VLC. The page was also tested with Chrome on the same machine with no issues, and friends with MACs and android devices have reported no issues.

My solution, for now, has been to use a javascript before and after the webm <source> line, which uses the navigator.userAgent object to detect firefox, and employ a document.write() to add an open and close comment before and after the source line during page render. This forces firefox to miss the webm version, and pick up the ogg version which comes up next. (this code is obviously NOT in the linked example ). It works for now, but is far from ideal, since the problem does not occur in windows 7. But mozilla is still supporting XP, and an awful lot of people with older machines still have it. If its fixable, it would be worth correcting with the browser, because many page designers might not even test with XP

This started to occur a few days ago, before that, I never had any issues. It may be related to Mcafee security, but could be anything.

I get a bing page whenever I startup firefox. I have read some suggested answers that do not work.

THere is nothing after firefox.exe on the shortcut I use to start Firefox 34.0.5 .

I have two active addons: Lastpass and Hotspot Shield. I have one inactive addon, Norton Toolbar. Could one of these cause the problem?

Now I have three, firefox troubleshooter

I'm working with a private system webpage (only a minor set of people may see it). Since I updated firefox to firefox 35, it has been showing the error:

"IndexedDB UnknownErr: ActorsParent.cpp:412"

This also happens in safe-mode and if I turn every extension off.

In the only bugzilla bug I could find, it was set as fixed. ( https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1093223 "IndexedDB UnknownErr: ActorsParent.cpp:413" on indexedDB.open)

Firefox 35 has been out for some days now, so I believe if this was an actual bug it would already had been reported.

How do I solve this error?

Meanwhile, I'm rolling back to version 34.

Under about:preferences#security, you can choose what sites can download add-ons without you needing to allow it thru the Exceptions button by Warn Me When Sites Try To Install Add-ons

The defaults are; marketplace.firefox.com and addons.mozilla.org

But every time Firefox is restarted, this list is deleted. Even resetting Firefox does not fix this. I deleted the prefs.js file, but no joy. I checked, and found this enter in the file, but it will not display when Firefox is started.

dom.mozApps.signed_apps_installable_from;https://marketplace.firefox.com

I even downgraded from Firefox 34.0.5 to 33.1.1 but the issue is still there.

As far as I can tell, this is the only setting that is having trouble.

I don't know what details are needed so I'll just rattle off anything that I can think of.

I am running an Asus laptop with windows 7. I have never had an issue with firefox in the past (beyond the usual freezing and some obvious issues with pop up ads that are par for the course with firefox since adblocker never does what it says.... not really. Lets be honest.) I am using Avast for my virus protection and it is also up to date.

My issue started about an hour ago when firefox stopped responding. The video I had playing kept going but I could not interact with anything. Assuming the program froze for the billionth time that week I rebooted it. This has always solved freezing issues in the past. Now, however, firefox is doing something new.

I can access the menus and almost everything on the window itself except for the minimize/maximize/close buttons, I cannot move the window at all, and I cannot manually resize it. I have also noticed that although videos will play, I can only click on their buttons if there is another smaller window overtop of firefox. The video controls will only appear that way and when I click them firefox naturally comes to the front and the video responds with the button I used but the buttons are gone again and I cannot resume playing without the smaller window back in front to make the buttons show again.

It's as if half of firefox is frozen while the other half is still running somehow.

I have no themes that could be causing this. Literally none. I only use firefox for the things that can no longer be opened in Opera so I have no need for any theme beyond default. The only addons I installed on purpose were adblockers (lord knows why. they don't DO anything.) though several other random things seem to have been installed over time to aid in one thing or another. Various plugins and players and versions of java, that sort of thing. But I have everything (and i mean EVERYTHING) in the addon menu disabled. I have tried booting it up in safe mode (the program, not windows) and the problem is still there except now it won't show the menu bar at all unless I press the alt key first and even then it wont let me actually click on anything in the menu bar. When I try the whole bar vanishes. I had to close firefox with the task manager. Rebooting will fix the issue for about 15 seconds before it all comes back. Any attempts at updating have failed as it says I am already up to date on everything so I don't know what its issue is.

It's not an urgent issue right now as most of what i need to do can be done on the half screen window I am using, but some of my sites have buttons that literally vanish in anything but full screen and I imagine that this will be a much greater annoyance within a few days.
