Opening pdfs via "system handler" won't work (but other file types work)

Hello

I want to open pdfs from firefox (snap 101.0.1) with the default application of the system (Xubuntu 22.04) and not open them in a new tab within forefox.

But it does not work, as if there was a problem with the system handler but only for pdfs and not for other file formats.

More details :

  • I changed Preferences/general/Applications for pdfs to use either "always ask" (and then chose "open" " With system handler" when asked) or "default system application". In both cases the pdf is downloaded but not opened. If I right click on the downloaded pdf in the list of downloaded files and then chose "open with system handler", nothing happens.
  • Opening the pdf inside Firefox works well and opening pdfs saved on my disk (outside firefox) as well.
  • Opening other file format by choosing to open them from firefox with the system handler works well too (tested eg with .torrent, .xls, .tif,...).
  • I tried to change the default system application for pdf (Atril) to other softwares without success (Okular, Evince).
  • If I try to open a .djvu file with the "system handler" it is opened correctly using Atril which is the also default for pdfs... So Atril works for .djvu files but not for pdfs...
  • I tried to replace the handlers.json file from my profile by a handler.json file from a brand new profile, without success (I still have a backup of my old profile file if needed). I did that because opening with the system application worked before and the bug appeared after I changed all applications preferences to "always ask" (and there were a lot of them in my rather old handlers.json file).

I'm lost...

When opening a new tab externally, e.g. via `firefox --new-tab <url>` or `xdg-open <url>`, Firefox doesn't raise its window.

If this behavior is abnormal, note that I'm using KDE on Wayland (Ubuntu 22.04) with "Focus stealing prevention" off. If it's normal behavior, is there a way to change it?

Firefox keeps logging me out of all of my accounts whenever my computer restarts. I saw other people have this problem and post the solution, which was to use custom settings for history and only clear cache and cookies. I tried that and the problem has still persisted for weeks. Is there any other fix for this problem?

I am using Firefox Version 101.0.1 (64-bit) for Desktop Windows 10 64bit (newest version (see question date for lookup info)).

This problem I could not find anywhere in this Firefox self support community. I think I discovered a bug in the firefox settings, but it might just be me missing something, but I doubt it, being familiar with the settings and them being clearly worded.

I can not seem to get my firefox to save the website always allowed to keep cookies stored between sessions (and their cookies / other data obviously also don't get saved between sessions). - maybe there arises a problem with the setting of never saving history between sessions?

Please, have a look at my current settings below (two screenshots): <image 1 (longer one)> <image 2 (shorter one, custom history settings)>

The settings being written as they are should mean that the always allowed websites should never have their cookies deleted between sessions, regardless of their history (their being visited) being deleted. To me this is frustrating and appears like a bug and not a feature.

Maybe is history is deleted all site permissions and data get deleted, too? - (If yes, that is clearly not what the settings suggest, and if it is supposed to work like this, I strongly suggest the Firefox Dev.s team to fix the confusion or add some feature work-around to suit my use-case. The internet is not a safe place anymore, generally, but some parts are, let me trust your settings do what the say they do, at the very least. Thanks in advance.)

Hello!

I was just wondering if there was a way to disable the pop-up that appears to confirm the cancellation of an ongoing download ?

I tried searching in the about:config page but didn't find any parameter that looked like it could help me on that.

Thanks in advance!

Good afternoon. I just made a clean install of Ubuntu 22.04 in my system. I use Firefox, to navigate, study and download diverse things, including work files. When I tried to download those files in my google drive, it shows me the folder which I will use, everything right, but when I hit "Save", nothing happens. Do you know which is the problem? I can access drive from "files" from Ubuntu without problem, upload and download files... Thanks in advance.

Firefox 101.0.1 no cursor and blinking cursor Caret is off

About two days ago the cursor started disappearing / flashing when browsing in Firefox. It does not mater where the cursor is placed on the screen either the arrow or the hand will flash when moving. My system is a windows pro 10 system with all updates, last updates for W10 were made a couple of weeks ago, on Firefox whenever it asks to upgrade I do it.

Specifically: 1. If the mouse is stationary there is no cursor, if I move it the cursor flashes. 2. When the system comes up and I launch Firefox all is OK for about 2 – 3 minutes then the flashing begins. 3. If I stop Firefox ie “X” it and restart it the flashing occurs within 0 – 30 seconds. 4. If I restart the PC steps 2 & 3 repeat.

I have two other PC’s Windows Home, and Windows 7, as well as a laptop with Windows Home all with Firefox 101.0.1 all up to date all do not have the above issue. This does not occur with any other programs. I have two monitors, tried Firefox on each makes no difference same problem.

I have tried searching the internet and all I find is about Caret which is off. I uninstalled Firefox and installed it. That made no difference.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Thank You

Bob

Have tried the 'Open site in new window', it goes to a Vimeo video and then an error message ..

[quote]Sorry, we couldn’t find that page

Make sure you’ve typed the URL correctly, or try searching Vimeo. You could also watch one of the videos below instead./quote

Even though when I hover the mouse over the 'shield' and the display is "Enhanced tracking protection is off for this site", the error still comes up. I go into settings and the 'Managed Exceptions' shows no entries. Shouldn't there be an exception in there for the site I am attempting to view a video from ? There is no method to add a site manually.
