My default search engine is Duck Duck Go. I frequently use a VPN.

I am usually in North America and want to search sites in North America. When I run a search by typing a search term in Firefox, I get results beginning in UK, and I see that a blue toggle switch has been set to UK. (See image.)

This started 2-3 weeks ago.

How do I set things so that my searches begin in North America?

I have checked "about:config" preferences and do not see anywhere that UK is specified. I don't see a region preference setting, either.

I don’t understand what Firefox is doing. For example, I used to start typing the first few letters of “weather.com”, which I visit pretty much daily, and it would auto fill “weather.com”. Now it auto fills every time with http://www.weatherbase.com/. I don’t know where that came from. Similarly, I used to type the first few letters of “duckduckgo.com” and it would bring up “duckduckgo.com”. Now it brings up a magnifying glass below the url with “Search with duckduckgo”. I am thinking it might be best if I can start over, i.e. clear out any information it’s saved about where it thinks I want to go, and start remembering the sites I am entering now.

I have been using Firefox Developer Edition for many years without any problem. I sync Firefox on my different PCs, so they are basically all the same in setup. Unfortunately, Firefox now crashes constantly on my main PC. I have therefore temporarily switched to the default FF variant.

Of course I have tried all the steps shown here on the forum but without any result that I can see. Both in safe mode with or without addons. No matter FF crashed.

Is there a way to turn off tracking URL fragment insertion from the release notes page when clicking "What's New" in the Firefox update modal?

When I click "What's New" in this modal (see Screenshot 1), it loads the release notes page for my current version (although it really should load the release notes page for the version it wants me to upgrade to, but that's another issue altogether), and inserts a bunch of tracking URI fragments onto the URL (see Screenshot 2).

Is there a way (in Settings, about:config, Windows Registry, etc.) to disable that fragment insertion?

Hello, Firefox randomly downloaded a file, with seemingly randomly name, that is 0 bytes and in download manager the source is moz-safe-about. It happened when I was accessing a popular wiki site. I opened the file in notepad, it was empty. I put it on virus total and came back negative, as it is an empty file. I've curbed through the support tickets here, using the keyphrase 'moz-safe-about'. I understand this was/is quite a common problem, but it still makes me quite worried and left a sour taste in my mouth, as I haven't understood any of the explanations. I have enabled firefox to ask me whenever it wants to save something (I have no idea why this isnt the default state). Happened on a somewhat fresh, updated win 11 installation. I'm also attaching more information here with a picture. Long story short: should I be worried? Am I overreacting and this is just some sort of a bug that occurred while getting a sites data? My yahoo homepage on firefox looks totally different than it did last week. Chrome and edge still look like the home page should but firefox does not. I screen shared with yahoo and they said it was a firefox issue. Anyone know how to make the homepage look like chromes and edge? I added pics from edge and firefox for comparison.

I have Windows 11 and Firefox 124.0.2. Firefox keeps asking to reinstall. I think it is because I keep getting the message that it fails to check for updates. I don't know if I have installed the Microsoft Firefox or the direct Mozilla Firefox downloaded. Maybe that is the problem, but I am not tech savvy. I have used Firefox for many years and like it. I am also too old (83) to deal with these problems. Help!

something apparently got corrupted in firefox.. i tried running update and i keep getting failed to update.. i have refreshed.. i have uninstalled and reinstalled ...nothing. i am sure there is a folder or file somewhere that is corrupted and i cannnot find it. because even when i uninstall and reinstall fresh. all my bookmarks are there .. how to i start a TRUE NEW install??

I have been using Firefox as my primary browser for a very long time. Now, every time I start Firefox, I get a message that the update failed, and that I should manually download the update file and run it. I do so, the update appears to work, and Firefox behaves, until I stop it and restart again. Then I get the same message. I looked online - it appears that others have had this problem, but no clear solution. I am not willing to use Edge, but am beginning to wonder if it is time to leave Firefox. WIndows 11 64, AMD processor, 64 GB ram. Connected via ethernet and fiber. NordVPN, and Bitdefender (neither of which has produced any error messages).

I have Firefox 124.0.2 running on Windows 11. For some reason, I can't update Firefox. When I manually download the update file, it appears to run Ok, but the version doesn't change. If I go to settings and click on "Check for Updates" is comes back and says Failed to Check for Updates. How do I fix this?

Originally reported on April 11th /questions/1444593: I have Windows 11 and the Firefox 124.0.2 browser. I cannot update to the latest version of Firefox. I receive an error message "Failed to update". I've uninstalled and reinstalled the browser, ran the install utility selecting update, nothing seems to work. Please help

I have been getting the "new version available, download now nag for over 2 weeks, and I have the latest version. Still get this issue repeatedly every day. Starting to become an every hour nag to update and install latest version of Firefox. Refuse to use Microsoft Edge or Chrome, and will switch off Firefox too if not rectified.

Firefox keeps reminding me that updates are available. I download and it says its installing but it doesn't seem to update. I have tried closing Firefox before running the installation but it makes no difference. I am on 125.02 at the moment.

Web cam image on web page stopped working after last update. Using win 11. Tried refresh, worked last time but not this time, checked permission security settings. Can get the camera image on a tablet but not laptop. (lenovo) Anything I might have missed?

I have Screwfix.com as a bookmark in my Firefox browser(default) and have recently found that I am unable to log in to Screwfix.

Screwfix tell me that I should be able to log in using Microsoft Edge (I can) but I prefer Firefox!

Can you sort this out for me please?
