duplicate of /questions/1376925 thread.

I am trying to address a STIG V-251569 I already downloaded the firefox template policy v3.9 and moved adml and admx files to the proper place here: C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions and here: en-US then after running gpupdate /force from command prompt i navigate here from gpupdate.msc: Local Computer Policies => Administrative Templates => Mozilla => Firefox => Preferences (Deprecated)

Question: Why is "browser.contentblocking.category" missing in the policy for Firefox enterprise?

(Again, didn't know what topic to choose). I just submitted a complaint about Firefox losing all my browser tabs upon restart -- and then after closing that window and re-opening the browser, everything was back to normal! Tabs, toolbars, everything. Whew !

Is there a miniature, stripped version of Firefox that runs when some utilities update?

Hello. I'm using a brand-new installation of Firefox 78.0.1 on a freshly installed copy of Windows 10 Pro. The only way I can get Firefox to display any notifications is by having alerts.useSystemBackend set to true. While this is set to false, notifications will not work. If I use this site to test them, it just says, 'queued for display', followed immediately by 'closed'. I've also tried creating a new profile and testing it again with no success. All sites were granted notification permissions in each case.

Thanks for any help.

Firefox version: 78.0.1

Firefox recently changed the behaviour when clicking on downloaded PDFs in the Firefox Downloads panel. While all other downloaded files are opened with the system default program when clicking on them, PDFs are opened with the built-in Firefox viewer.

This is counter intuitive. If Firefox is the system default PDF viewer, this separate treatment of PDFs is not necessary (the system default redirects back to Firefox). If Firefox is not the system default PDF viewer, users need to take extra steps to open a PDF in the system viewer (open the folder, click on the file; also documented [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/view-pdf-files-firefox-or-choose-ano...]). Therefore, this change creates no benefit for those who use Firefox as the system default PDF viewer, while reducing usability for those who use a different system PDF viewer (e.g., Acrobat).

Example use case:

  • Browse to a PDF URL: use the Firefox built-in viewer, because it is fast and convenient. A more sophisticated viewer is not necessary because the document is only viewed, not edited.
  • Download a PDF: use the system default viewer (e.g., Acrobat), for example for annotation.

It seems clear that this change has reduced usability for no functional improvement, while the common combined use case of Firefox for PDF URLs and professional readers (e.g., Acrobat) for downloaded PDFs has become more difficult.

jscher2000,

"Do you mean search engines appear even before you start typing anything to search?"

Yes, as soon as i bring the cursor to the Search box. the drop down box appears.

I opened my Home page and all of the boxes under Firefox Home Content I had unclicked during set up.

My home page is set to blank page and New Tabs the same.

I turned them back on to do as you described but the three dots never appeared in the corner and everything remained the same so i turned them off again.

Thanks for trying to help.

Unfortunately I just did a refresh to Firefox and even more unfortunately I had no idea that fixing a slow opening of Firefox would erase all my very valuable bookmarks that I really need! There should be warnings posted as to what a refresh will really do before being allowed to click on the refresh button.

I have tried following videos on you tube to restore my bookmarks, but they are hard to follow and I have had no luck with them. I need a step by step video process with audio instructions so I can retrieve said bookmarks!

Please, any help will be greatly appreciated !!! Thanks, D.
