Updated. See bottom for up-to-date question.

Hello! :) I'm on a pretty fresh install of Debian bullseye. Immediately after launching Firefox ESR, it crashes. Not always, but every ~2nd launch. The Mozilla Crash Reporter "We're Sorry" appears and the crash looks like this in terminal: mars@desktop:~/Desktop$ firefox ExceptionHandler::GenerateDump cloned child 83677 ExceptionHandler::SendContinueSignalToChild sent continue signal to child ExceptionHandler::WaitForContinueSignal waiting for continue signal... mars@desktop:~/Desktop$

I tried making a fresh profile without addons/settings, and it still crashes but less at every ~6-7th launch. However, it does not crash in safe mode, though visiting websites while in safe mode is laggy. Here is the terminal of safe-mode: Missing chrome or resource URL: resource://gre/modules/UpdateListener.jsm Missing chrome or resource URL: resource://gre/modules/UpdateListener.sys.mjs Missing chrome or resource URL: resource://gre/modules/UpdateListener.jsm Missing chrome or resource URL: resource://gre/modules/UpdateListener.sys.mjs Sandbox: Unexpected EOF, op 0 flags 00 path /proc/cpuinfo

Any idea? Thanks in advance!

Extra observations:

  • Didn't have these issues with Firefox on Fedora (Wayland) and Gentoo.
  • Toggling Caps Lock takes about half a second to activate/deactivate in Firefox, resulting in a lot of accidentally capitalized letters.
  • Generally, Firefox seems pretty slow and scrolling through items/websites with images is a bit choppy. Websites load slower compared to my forementioned distros.
  • Not sure if it matters, but I installed Debian with automatic/guided (encrypted LVM) and noticed after that my swap size is only 980 MB when my RAM is 16 GB. Just mentioning it in case it's relevant.

System info:

  • DE: XFCE with x11.
  • Kernel: 5.10.0-21-amd64.
  • GPU: NVIDIA contrib non-free driver. Force Composition Pipeline ON. Allow Flipping OFF. TripleBuffer ON.
  • CPU: Intel i5 6600K

UPDATE: I found the cause of the crash. If I enable Use hardware acceleration when available, Firefox crashes on launch. If I disable it, it doesn't crash which is nice. BUT, it leads to unbearable lag and puts my CPU usage to 70-100% when dealing with videos or images. This exact thing happens on two fresh installs on different SSDs.

Any advice? Do I need some additional drivers for my Debian install? Thanks!

Info:

  • Debian Bullseye.
  • Firefox ESR 102.10.0.
  • GTX 970 w/ proprietary nvidia-driver.
  • GNOME on X11.

Visiting some web page firefox prompt for my primary password , i imagine to access the login data of the site, but in principle the site may ask for anyone of the saved login data (or not?), so in lack of a clear login page i wonder how to know which private data are requested by the page.

is there any way to see what data are accessed? This is especially relevant if i've already input the master password, in this case there is no evidence to the user that private data are requested and accessed.

This is pretty much a duplicate of https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1334684 : I have the uBlock Origin and Skip Redirect extensions installed, both work by checking/modifying the URL of the site I am trying to visit.

Unfortunately, I am running into some sites that are re-directed via some tracking URLs. Here's one example I had today:

Original URL: https://sslh62px.r.us-east-2.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fwww.allaboutcircuits.com%2Ftechnical-articles%2Fanalyzing-dc-and-steady-state-ac-circuits-with-python%2F/2/010f01832042551a-ed0a0774-ca39-4cd9-825e-a375504c6ea5-000000/c7T-m43jFRD5B3k49nHcvIOhCtM=71

As you can see, the destination URL is embedded within the tracker URL and as such, is exactly what Skip Redirect was designed to deal with. Unfortunately, uBlock Origin seems to look at the URL before Skip Redirect does and blocks it outright because it is a known tracker (awstrack.me).

If I could tell Firefox to let Skip Redirect modify the URL first (to https://www.allaboutcircuits.com/technical-articles/analyzing-dc-and-steady-state-ac-circuits-with-python/ ), uBlock Origin didn't need to block access to it.

Is there a way to change the order in which extensions are applied (i.e. get to run) when a URL is opened?

Hello,

I'm willing to debug an older release of Firefox (ver. 98.0). In order to do that, since I don't want to compile, I wanted to download the debug symbols from Mozilla's symbol server. I followed the documentation provided about this service but I still can't make the server give me something else than 404 Not Found.

From what I understood, I tried fetching symbols using this URL : https://symbols.mozilla.org/firefox/firefox-98.0-Linux-20220304153049-linux64-mozilla-release-symbols.txt

But the file doesn't exist. The /firefox sub-directory doesn't exist either.

How do I properly use this service ? Thank you for your time,

Tim

Hi, I'm running Firefox 110.0.1 on a linux machine and since installing cookie autodelete I have noticed that the web site yts.mx keeps reseting its cookie, a PHPSession cookie, even though I only visited the site once and that was a week ago. Also a few minutes after starting firefox yts.mx shows up on the about:network#http page of firefox and I'm guessing this is when the cookie gets set.

I can't find any information about about:network#http but there seem to be a lot of web sites listed that I don't visit. What does this page display?

I have tried removing all entries referencing yts.mx in my history. I have searched all non binary files in my profile directory for any reference to yts.mx. The only one thats comes up is in a file called AlternativeServices.txt and I have deleted the reference in that file numerous times and it keeps coming back.

I have also tried deleting the startup cache.

Any ideas apart from resetting firefox to stop this site from setting cookies when I haven't visited it?

Thanks.

Hi there,

I've been using firefox as my main browser and I've created a account and using it all the time for syncing the settings, bookmarks, logins, extensions etc.

BUT due to some unwanted (really irritating) search suggestion were being shown to me by firefox, I had to uninstall firefox from my system.

    • Throughout the process, I'd kept syncing ON always!!

But when I installed firefox again and after loggedin, I'm syncing everything but this is restoring (syncing) very old data which doesn't have my latest bookmarks, extenstions & saved logins!!

How DO I get my all data???

URGENT PLEASE!! THANK YOU

I would like to enable picture-in-picture without constantly having a popup for it anytime my cursor goes onto the video screen. You could just put a button somewhere out of the way. It's so annoying I have to just disable it, and that's not right. Nobody needs popups of any kind for anything ever. It's the same as an ad.

Typically I press super + some key combination to open various applications. Today, I forgot to press super and the first couple letters in "screenshot" are apparently more or less what you need to delete your firefox history.

Is this in any way recoverable? I've also used this firefox account on a windows partition, not sure if history is shared between linux and windows in this way though.

I'm using Mozilla Firefox 108.0 on popos 20.04

Using firefox in linux mint 19.3 mate. Until firefox 97, I could control the size and color of the firefox scrollbars with a system CSS. Since a firefox update to version 98, firefox ignores those settings. Nothing has changed in my firefox settings, my about:config, or system settings. But now the scrollbars are barely visible low contrast narrow bars that are unpleasant to work with, and I can't figure out how to change this. suggestions? tnx

I have a wordpress blog website. I'm trying to setup google Adsense advertisements on that blog. I seem to have been partly successful because ads are showing in that website when I browse it with the mobile smartphone (also using firefox browser).

But when I try to look for the same advertisements on Firefox, on my laptop computer, the ads are not showing. Instead where the Ad should show, there is a light yellow cream coloured box / space.

I wondered if this is because there might be some kind of automatic ad-blocking on Firefox. But ads of other websites show up fine. Do you have any idea about what to do about this?

I tried whitelisting the site, but then, I'm not sure which site to put it on, and where. What I tried did not work.

I'm using firefox from Debian linux computer. Thanks.K.R

I have noticed this happening and dug a bit to find a quirk.

Opening a link in a new tab: Doesn't work if the men hits the top of the screen.

See attached video via link.

(Of course when I recorded it, it worked, but it took some effort.) Multiple clicks to get it to open.

But if you watch a bit more of the video: if I scroll the screen so the menu is NOT at the top of the screen and I select "open in new tab" it opens straight away.

WARNING! TURN DOWN THE VOLUME! Sorry, but I only realised that the sound was also captured and ..... Anyway: Please turn down the volume!

https://anonfiles.com/74AcRaY9y8/Firefox_open_in_new_tab_webm

Now, not the DEFINITIVE proof, this has been happening to me a lot lately, and it was only by chance I noticed the quirk about "top of screen".

Is anyone else seeing this?

Hi!

So I switched from Chrome, and there is one thing that keeps annoying me: the homepage and new window behavior.

In Chrome, you could define your pages that load when first launching the browser, but when you open a new window, it would default back to an empty page. This is the behavor that I want.

In Firefox, I only found the solution with setting the browser.startup.page option to 0, so new windows open with a blank page while you could still edit your homepages. But here, I would have to click the homepage button each time I initially start the browser. This is quite annoying, since it would always be an extra step when launching the browser.

Could anyone help me get the behavior like in Chrome? I want Firefox to open my homepages on startup, but use empty pages when it's already open.
