Hello "It Takes a Community", I'm new to Mozilla Firefox, which seems more like a climbing wall than a learning curve. But I like it much better than the Google start page.

  • I'm using a Toshiba laptop and a Windows 7 system.
  • Mozilla Firefox Start Page has a Google Search box in the middle of the page. The font in and around the box looks like a 4. Whatever it is, I can't easily see the words.
  • Clicked the Tools drop-down, clicked on Options, clicked on Content, changed the font to 12, and clicked OK. The font did not change on the start page.
  • I went into the Advanced option and un-clicked the box to allow websites to use their own fonts, but that didn't help at all.
  • Then, looked all over the Google support site, but I couldn't find a solution.

Maybe using the word "font" in my search is my problem!!! I've been looking for a solution for well over an hour.

Please help! If this keeps going on, I'm going to need an anti-depressant!

Best regards, and thanks for any suggestions.

I have installed some themes(skins), and I'd like to know where they are located on my HD because I'd like to make some modifications on them.

I have searched in the firefox profile directory with no success.

The 'extensions' folder contains extensions like 'download status bar', 'flashblock' and 'cache viewer', but not the themes.

Thanks a lot.

1. Is there a way to customise the google search bar to the effect of what this and this add-ons do?

2. I don't like the inconsistency of FF3 when it comes to opening new tabs: CTRL+T opens a new tab at the very right, whereas clicking on a link or searching from the context menu opens the new tab next to the currently open tab. There should be a way to make FF work one way or the other.

I was looking for a trail map, and received a message that I should download ALOT first. I did so, without knowing what it was. I now want to get ride of it. I am using Windows 7 on my HP computer. I went in to the control panel and looked for ALOT on the uninstall programs list, but it wasn't there. Then I followed the instructions on ALOT help to uninstall. It told me goodbye and sorry I was leaving, but ALOT IS STILL ON MY SCREEN. How do I get rid of it?

I just entered an incorrect insert into my browser's Preferences. I think it might just have barely been off by a few blank spaces and now I just want to delete it and try again. But there were warnings beforehand when I opened 'Prefs' to be VERY Careful. I just want to DELETE it. OK? Should be no problem, riight? I don't know what I'm doing. I just followed instructions and made a slight mistake and want to undo it.

I used my Windows FF to get this screenshot to see which window I mean.

I want to wear my own custom persona for my firefox browser, nut I can't find the fox they are talking about. Quote:

"Option 1: Test on Your Own Computer

Within the Personas menu in the bottom left of the browser's status bar, you can enable an "offline" Persona on your own personal computer by enabling a setting within Preferences. In doing this, you can test your Personas before submitting them to the online catalog.

Follow these four steps to get the Custom Personas option up and running in your browser:

  1. If you have Personas installed, click on the little fox on the bottom left of your computer screen and click on "Preferences"
  2. Ensure the box "Show Custom Persona in Menu" is checked and close the box.
  3. Click on the little fox again. Mouse over "Custom" in the menu and to the right find and click "Edit"
  4. Build your Persona using the upload fields and additional settings." I can't find the fox. I have tried options and prefrences, but neither work. HELP!

I restrict access to my computer by using "Accept cookies from sites" - "Exceptions".

Every time I reinstall FireFox, I have to manually add the sites one-by-one to this exceptions list.

If I knew what file these exceptions were stored in, I could backup the file and wouldn't have to re-create every time.

Thanks.

Using Ubuntu, the same option isn't available in 'view'. I've used "About:Config" before, but am very careful and document any changes. Any time I need access to menu items, using windows, I simply use alt=_.

By default it isn't enabled, but as most spoofing sites will try to redirect you, I've had it enabled for a long time - but it seems that more than half the sites I try to go to these days are redirecting. So it has become a pain clicking anything in Gmail as I have to mouse over and allow the redirect by clicking in the top r.h. corner.

(As I do a LOT of research, often 50 clicks from my emails every morning, this is tendonitis territory, not laziness! :-) )

So - how useful is this option? Especially when not even a default?
