I have today had to refresh Firefox because it kept crashing on opening and I could not open it. Another thread said a Refresh was the best solution, so I now have Firefox V 40.0 using Windows 10.0 OS.

Suddenly, 2 hours after the refresh, it has slowed down to a snail's pace - slower than a very slow thing, like watching paint dry, like have an old-fashioned dial-up connection. Takes about 15 seconds to load my home page, and just as long to change pages, either within the same website or when connecting to a new website.

What has happend and what can I do to corrcet this? Is there something in the profile or add-ons of my old version of FF that I need to add in to the new version?

I used to really like Firefox, but today is beginning to destroy my faith in the product.

Cheers

Hi Everyone,

I've been getting random crashes with my FFx that I have not been able to solve by myself so far. It appears that the browser is running out of memory, but I would like your take on these.

Here are the last 5 crash reports:

bp-8452563c-add5-442b-9228-d0a5e2150813 8/13/2015 10:05 eafd9fd5-b97a-4479-9547-deea29a51b4f 8/13/2015 10:01 bp-b476f5ab-3755-4d27-a86b-fbef52150812 8/12/2015 16:31 bp-bb2dc85f-99a7-43ef-bcd0-95e062150811 8/11/2015 8:40 bp-51bfce44-ac3b-4bf2-9b27-27ea22150805 8/5/2015 9:08

Most of the crashes happen on "image heavy" websites, such as Zillow and Google Maps (satellite views and especially Street View). I thought the problem is related to Flash, but the sites no longer use Flash, based on what I can see. I can reproduce the crashes at will by going to Street View and navigating around or loading the Satelline view and moving around the map. That type of activity will usually crash the browser within 1-2 minutes.

Right before the each crash, the screen flickers and all tab labels, except the current tab, go blank. The contents of the current tab disappears. Sometimes the entire window turns black. It still has the window's Minimize / Restore / Close buttons visible, but restoring or minimizing the window does not clear the problem in most cases - the browser usually closes itself and the crash reporter and "plugin container" windows pop up.

I've read other advice on this topic on the forums and have already tried upgrading the browser to the latest version, using the latest video drivers (even those provided by Intel, instead of Lenovo), using Safe mode, using the "reset the browser" feature", as well as creating a brand new profile for myself and not installing any add-ons, themes, search accellerators, etc.

I've also tried disabling hardware acceleration - while that makes the crashes take longer to reproduce (a few mins instead of 1-2) it does not help to stop them.

The PC I'm using is a Lenovo laptop (32-bit with 4G of RAM). I can't install more RAM due to hardware limitations, and I can't upgrade the laptop, as it belongs to the company.

Is there anything that can be done to make Firefox not crash, even at the expense of other apps that may be running on the system? Right not it seems to get to 1.2Gig of used memory before shutting itself down. It still seems to hit that 1.2Gig limit, regardless of available memory and running applications. Is there any way to make it use more available memory?

Thanks in advance for taking your time to read / respond to this.

A site I use regularly has recently been revamped and the new page is wider than my wide monitor screen. There is no horizontal slider to enable scanning across. I enquired of their helpline and was told that the log-in box is in the top right hand corner of the screen. The part I cannot access!!. The help site further said it must be my problem not theirs. Not very helpful.

I have tried minimising the screen and pulling the side but that merely makes the screen larger without revealing any more of the web page.

Has anyone any advice or suggestions?

Every so often - maybe every 15 searches, maybe every 20, maybe it's not always the same number of searches - when I try to perform a search via the search box, Firefox will open the Options -> Search page instead.

Repro:

1. Press Ctrl+K to move focus to the search box.

2. Enter search keyword(s).

3. Press enter.

Expected result:

Firefox will open the appropriate URL in the search engine I've configured to be my default.

Actual result:

Firefox opens the Options -> Search page instead.

If you attempt these repro steps and don't see the "Actual" result, then go back to step #1 and try again until you do. I don't know how many tries this requires. Maybe the 15 - 20 I suggested before is too low. Maybe it's 50?

How do I make this stop? I just want to search - I don't want to have Firefox invite me to reconsider my search settings.

Firefox is denying me access to Facebook, as well as my Amazon account, as it says it can't trust the certificate. I've tried doing what the forum says, going to "Add Security Exception", and pasting the FB address in, but it just says it can't get the certificate. This has only happened recently, since I upgraded to Windows 10. Could that have anything to do with it?

It's supremely frustrating and, having used Firefox for many years, I'm ready to go to Chrome or even....Microsoft's new browser.
