Every time I launch Firefox it creates 12-13 instances of Firefox along with one each for Chrome and Console.

I don't need that many instances. Typically I have no more than 3-4 tabs open.

Is there a Configuration setting that I can change to reduce the number of instances to 5 and greatly reduce the amount of time it takes to launch.

I am running Windows 10 Pro V21H2 at current update level. I have a custom made tower with 512GB SSD and a Core2 Duo processing running at 2.93 GHz with 8 GB Ram. Firefox is V17.0.1.

Lately I'm getting a pop-up on my laptop and iphone offering to log in via my Google account. I don't have a Google account, and all the help articles I find just tell people how to disable that. I have cookies set to Strict, I've cleared the cache, made sure things are updated, and I still get this annoying pop-up. I've got various add-ons installed. AdGuard, ClearURLS, Cookie Autodelete, Decentraleyes, UBlock Origin, Disable HTML5, Facebook Container, Flash Control, and HTTPS Everywhere. I'm open to suggestions on where to go from here. Frustrating for this to just start suddenly, and having to find a way to disable it.

Everytime I try to close my Firefox browser window, it just stops. There are multiple processes taking in excess of 200 or 300K in memory that seem to be causing the problem. I have to manually end the process just to close Firefox, and it is quite annoying. I just checked, my Firefox is up to date. Yesterday I deleted and re-installed Firefox, but it's still doing the same thing. This is kind of driving me nuts to be honest. I have Chrome, Opera, and Edge also installed on my computer so I'm ready to jetisson Firefox but thought I'd see what the community has to say first.

UPDATE - Firefox worked great for a few days but the issue returned not too soon after that. Whatever happened in the last update was only good temporarily. I've already done all the initial troubleshooting steps and believe I may have discovered the root cause of the issue.

There are multiple processes in Firefox whose size is over 100,000 kilobytes in size. Some are over 200K, 300K, and 400K.

As I compare this with other browsers I have on my computer, Edge has no processes over 100K, and neither does Chrome or Opera. I believe this is not coincidence, there is something internal to Firefox which creates large processes that is causing delays in closing it. Once again the problem has started annoying me and has started giving me thoughts of switching browsers again.

You can see it in the screenshots I posted.

The dozens of bookmarks I had that I did not put in folders has grown in numbers exponentially. I don't know how. I had nothing to do with it. I went from having about 200 bookmarks (outside of what I had in separate folders) to what seems to be roughly 5000. This is ridiculous. How can I 1, correct this, and 2, stop if from happening again.

THERE ARE TOO MANY GLITCHES WITH DOWNLOADING THEIR UPDATES AND COMPLETELY LOSING MY SAVED PASSWORDS AND NOW THIS BROWSER HAS BLOCKED INFORMATION POSTED ON A NEWS ARTICLE THAT SHOWS TWITTER FEEDS BY THE PRIOR TWITTER ADMIN THAT HAS BEEN FIRED. I HAVE THE STANDARD SECURITY AND DO TRUST THE SITE THAT I AM ON BUT WITHOUT EXPLANATION FIREFOX HAS BLOCKED THOSE FEEDS IN THE ARTICLE. Firefox 10x.x will stop rendering pages without giving an error. MX Linux. Nothing showing up in dmesg Not detecting any pattern to when this major issue happens; simply opening a page from a search engine result in a tab might cause it. could run 20 tabs of Youtube often without issue. Issue will only allow one level on Menu to show (can't reach Browser Tools to troubleshoot), selecting a tab window usless wont not move. If issue happens in a video window the video will play but not update display. If I resize Firefox, its window will update frame by frame

Once again the failure of Firefox to work with comment sections of many websites has reared its head in the latest update of Firefox. I'm using Windows 11 with latest updates. This occurred suddenly in the middle of commenting. Other web browser are OK. These constant recurring problems with Firefox are getting tiresome and although I like the browser and am comfortable using it, I'm seriously considering abandoning it for these annoyances.
