I use Firefox on two different computers. On one, I'm logged in with bookmarks syncing enabled, and on the other one, no Firefox account is added. I do bookmark and tagging on both. I wonder what will happen with the bookmarks and their tags for the same bookmarked websites after I sign-in on the other computer?

For example, on the signed-in computer mozilla.org is bookmarked with tags: Firefox, mozzila and on the other computer without account mozilla.org is bookmarked with tags: browser, application

After I enable syncing on the second computer, will I get a result of the merged synced bookmark: mozilla.org with tags firefox, mozzila, browser, application or it will get overwritten?

First off, I'm kind of a nincompute. So, simply, my bookmarks always separate somewhere in the middle of the list. Each section is alphabetically arranged.

But why does this happen? I choose to sort by alphabet, so I should have one list with all the A's in one place, etc., instead of two lists.
I never chose to divide the list, and i can't figure out how the bookmark genie picks what goes where.

I am backing up my bookmarks to a HTML file as I have been doing for several years. Recently I noticed when I opened the backup file there were two sets of bookmarks shown, one from several months ago (out-of-date and unneeded) and the current one.

I want to eliminate the old set of bookmarks, but I cannot figure out how to do it. The funny thing is the old set of bookmarks is NOT showing in my bookmark library. It is like a ghost set of bookmarks.

Any suggestions?

I'm having all sorts of problems with bookmark management in FF 92.0 on Ubuntu 21.04.

Ctrl+D no longer works in any bookmarked page, so I'm unable to bring up the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog box. Clicking on the star icon (it's red in my browser, not blue) does absolutely nothing.

But typing Ctrl+D or clicking on the empty star icon in an un-bookmarked page DOES save the URL, but I don't get a chance to choose the location of the new bookmark. Because the dialog box no longer appears, FF automatically places it into one of my existing bookmark folders. The only way I can manipulate bookmarks is to select "Manage Bookmarks" and manually cut-n-paste inside the Library window.

I ran FF in troubleshooting mode, but I got the same results.

My "about:config" says that "browser.bookmarks.editDialog.showForNewBookmarks" is set to true.

When I first started saving bookmarks in a fresh version of FF 92.0, the dialog box that allowed me to choose the location always came up, but at some point, it stopped appearing.

Since the last two updates of 92.0 and 92.01, there is a major lag issue with my bookmark list. When you hover the cursor over a particular folder or link, it takes forever for it to be highlighted. In addition, the favicon associated with any particular link takes forever to populate. The bookmarks worked perfect prior to version 92.0. Being that I am a WIN 7 user, it would appear that whatever the developers did beginning with 92.0, had great affect to WIN 7 users, which implies that maybe other WIN 7 users may also be having the identical issues with their bookmarks. The developers should fix this issue ASAP in the next update. There is no excuse for this issue to be occurring.

Firefox seems to reset to a newly downloaded state without reason. All my bookmarks and custom settings are lost. This has happened several times now and I do not know if it is a BigSur issue or a Firefox issue. My Mac was just updated to BigSur and I did not have this problem on Catalina. I am about to give up on Firefox because of this issue.

Hello, I'm using Firefox 92.0.1 for Mac OS (10.12.6). Upon restarting my computer, my bookmarks were lost. First, it was stated that "The bookmark and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software may cause this problem." When I tried to restore the old bookmarks, it there was a list from which I could select, but every choice resulted in an "unable to process the backup file" response. Upon restarting my computer and reinstalling Firefox, It now said "for quick access, place bookmarks here on the bookmarks toolbar." That said, it won't let me do so.

I've tried the other recommendations offered through support for restoring bookmarks (though, admittedly, many were outdated, referencing links circa 2016), and have had no luck so far. If the worst case scenario is that the old bookmarks can't be accessed, is there at least a way to reestablish the bookmark and history system and start anew?

Thanks in advance. (Attached below are examples of the error message.

I might have to go to Chrome or IE.

I had about 100 folders w/bookmarks last week and by mistake I imported about 500 other folders dated over several months ago. I discovered I don't need those 500 folders. How do I get ride of all of them without doing it individually? I want to avoid trying to delete them individually folder by folder because it would just be too time consuming. Is there a way to highlight them all (500) and the delete all at once? thank you I await your answer.

Perhaps I can put first 100 folders altogether in another single folder, say X. And then export X as a back up. Then somehow remove all 600 folders plus X all at once some how completely emptying the bookmark listings and import back the backed up folder X. Can that be done?
