I am currently on version 110 of firefox. It is driving me crazy how there is no physical object or deliminator between tabs. they all just blend in. Is there any way to add the "|" (pipe command) between the tabs so they have some sort of separation?

thanks

Hello,

I just installed the new update. The new tab design is totally confusing/unclear to me. Especially the fact that the new tabs don't have a "seperator-line" to the next tab. Thats totally disturbing to me. It's really difficult for me to keep the overview about my normally around 60 tabs now. Is there an option to switch back to the old tabs look and feel? Are there other options to customize the look of the tab bar?

Thanks in advance and Greetz!

Hi!

I had two Firefox windows open at the same time, one with a lot of tabs open in it, and one with only a few open. I was going to close firefox in order to restart the computer, and closed the window with many tabs in it first, and then I closed the window with only a few tabs in it. The next time I started Firefox, only the window with a few tabs in it loaded, and not the other window in which I had the vast majority of all opened tabs. And I can't find any way to restore the tabs from the other window either. I have looked under the History menu, but I don't see any option to restore a previous session there, so I'm guessing that Firefox thinks that it already has restored the previous session when I opened it up again.

So, how can I restore the tabs I had in the other window, with a lot of tabs opened?

I had so many problems with it, I went through downloading different "session save" add-ons, I know what solution you guys will give me, I've done most of the posts' instructions, this is more of a complaint post.

When Windows boots up and you had Firefox open before you shut down last time, it will open anew, automatically, with your previous session, but it's on the end of the list of things that launch on startup.

Forgetting you had it on and clicking the browser again, will open a new session with the home screen instead of the previous session, then when actual session Firefox launches it's a 50/50 whether it will be in home screen as well, or actually in your previous session. Now here is the fun part. If you close the new window with just the home tab, that will now become the latest session, so your previous one will be deleted.

How to get around that? Move your home tab into your session instead of closing the window, it works 100% of the time... But can we, not start a new session if you close the home screen, or if you close just 1 tab it doesn't count as a different session. I dunno, just throwing ideas out there.

Hope this reaches those with the same issue, or people in positions to fix the issue, if anyone wants to use session saving add-ons, I took fancy to Tab Session Manager and Easy Session Manager, though not perfect, I don't advise for over 150 tabs.

I'll try to be as active on this thread as I can be, thanks for reading through! :>

Help, how can I go BACK to the last version of Firefox?? I HATE Version 89. Not only do the new tabs all blend in with each other because they're all the same color, but they're placed lower in the screen and add a strip of unused dead space along the top of screen, which means the content I want to see is all pushed down into a smaller, squished space. Arg - already getting high blood pressure trying to navigate it!

Earlier today I changed my settings in "Privaty & Security" to "Clear history when Firefox closes". In that setting I selected to only delete "Browsing and download history."

I assumed this would just delete my browsing history from the URL bar, but now after I closed Firefox, it also deleted all my tabs!! There were many important tabs that I don't want to lose. But I also can't find them under 'recently closed tabs', and I also tried a solution from this forum, namely to find the recovery file and upload them to https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/scrounger.html -- but they don't contain my old tabs either!

Is there still something I can do to recover my lost tabs??

The option to restore tabs and windows is no longer working for me. I normally have a dozen tabs I work thru every day. Yesterday when I shutdown Firefox, all those tabs were there. Today when I open Firefox it only had to single Firefox default homepage. Checking under History there is no option to restore previous tabs, and the recently closed tabs was empty.

To test, I opened an IMDB page and pinned it. I then went to Wikipedia. This gave me a pinned and unpinned tab. I shutdown Firefox via the "X" to close the window. When I restarted Firefox there was only the default homepage. Neither IMDB nor Wikipedia showed up under recently closed tabs and no option to restore the previous session was available.

I have operated Firefox this way for several years. I don't know why this behavior is no longer being supported.

Lost tabs, already tried system restore and recovering sessionstore files from shadowexplorer

Today, after I tried to uninstall some mouse drivers leading to a freeze and reboot, my firefox upon starting lost hundreds of open tabs I had, only restoring 1 tab which I am pretty sure I did not even have open. I have already followed solutions in similar problems like this (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1310742), which did not work. First I used shadowexplorer to recover sessionstorebackup files from a restore point on 10/15, most of which did not seem to open anything when using them with the scrounger tool. One of them did open, however it only showed 2 tabs when I would have had hundreds. None of these files did anything when I renamed them to sessionstore.jsonlz4 and placed them in the appropriate folder, even if I deleted the original sessionstore file. Firefox also seemed to be able to recover tabs which I opened after the loss of the original tabs, and renaming and replacing of the sessionstore file until I tried deleting the entire sessionstore backups folder.

I also tried simply doing a system restore back to 10/15, which also failed to help. After doing a system restore, I also tried the whole process of recovering sessionstore backup files and replacing them again, however nothing changed again. I also tried recovering the sessionstore.jsonlz4 file directly and using that to replace my current sessionstore.jsonlz4 file, but that also did not work. The replacement files do seem to contain tabs, as most of them are around a couple MBs large, but after I place them in and restart firefox they get reduced in size back to almost nothing.

The only thing I have not tried is using files from an even older restore point on 10/12, although after having restored to the 10/15 point my 10/12 restore point seems to have disappeared. I can try undoing the restore in order to try to view the 10/12 restore point again, but this process takes multiple hours and I would rather not.

Sometimes when loading a page, and the page is slow to respond, I will see a strange situation: The page is totally blank (the F12 tool does not display page content). The refresh button is gray (disabled), or sometimes although the refresh button enabled, the url textbox is "about:blank", which means I cannot actually reload the page I want to read. I have to re-navigate to the page through the link in the previous link. I'm not sure whether I got across. I hope the issue can be fixed.

Hi! I'm going nuts. I have Firefox set to NOT remember sessions when I close and re-open. But every time I re-open the (latest) Firefox on my (up to date) Mac, 3 tabs reappear. It doesn't matter how often I delete history or cookies or empty caches. They are not even 3 tabs from the most recent session! They are from a week ago. And no, they are not pinned tabs!

And yes, I have reinstalled Firefox.

Any idea what I should do?

Many thanks!

It's so frustrating that the keyboard shortcut for closing tabs is right beside the one to quit Firefox. I've lost countless hours because of this, and it's so easy to accidentally do. Is there a way to keep this from happening? A simple "Are you sure" confirmation dialog would be great, or I really like the Chrome "hold command-Q" to exit feature. This seemingly simple function is proving extremely difficult to accomplish.

Yes, I'm aware of session restore, but (1) It does not preserve my window arrangement. I use multiple desktops for various tasks, and they each have related browser windows. (2) I need to see webpages exactly as they were when I opened them. Sessions expire, dynamic pages are refreshed, content is removed etc. That is all lost.

I do not want to disable session restore completely. It can still be useful. But, I do not want to trigger session restore automatically every time. Manual activation is ideal.

regarding: "browser.tabs.warnOnClose" I do not want a warning for closing multiple tabs. I often have many windows open and that warning gets annoying. It also doesn't prevent me from accidentally quitting when I only have one tab open.

I tried setting browser.warnOnQuit to true, but it's ignored.

I simply want a confirmation when I use the keyboard shortcut to QUIT. That's it. No side effects. Can Firefox do this?

I generally have loads of tabs open, and until recently this wasn’t an issue (perhaps until last upgrade?), but now, I can hardly move between tabs, the drop down list showing tab selection doesn’t work, nor does the left/right arrows. When I delete a tab, it leaves a ‘space’ where the tab was, only ‘back filling’ after I’ve opened up another tab to full screen mode and then minimised it again, at which point it goes to the very left-most tab and the only way I can get to tabs further down the list, is by deleting them in the manner described. I’ve actually got 2 laptops (Win 7 & 8.1), and it’s now happening on both of them. This might have something to do with memory management/the computer’s page file, but as things stand, I’m SERIOUSLY going to be switching to another browser - despite sticking with Firefox for many-a-year. BTW, I’m actually writing this on my phone, as I couldn’t now do it on either of my laptops (hence I’m currently unable to attach anything/provide screen grabs etc. I guess the only way to ‘clear’ this issue, would be to either close/restart Firefox or my laptop - neither of which I really want to do. Is there a way that I can use an earlier version of the browser and prevent it automatically updating? Yours, a now very frustrated longtime user,

So I have been having this issue lately where my computer just won't respond, and the only thing I have to fix it with my limited skills is to force the computer to power off and restart it. Unfortunately, this tends to result in me losing my tabs and having to find them all over again in Firefox. Usually it's not a big deal, as it's just a few tabs missing, and I can just remember what I need. This time, however, I've lost a weeks worth of tabs, and it was a very busy week. I can't remember what tabs I had open, and the few things I've tried to get them back, are not working.

I have, unfortunately, already tried restarting my computer, which inevitably led to firefox being closed and reopened, and though I have tried to find my previous session data in the profiles information on my computer, it only has this session that is currently missing a week of work, and the session from the week previous. I am very distressed right now, not gonna lie.

Good morning, There are multiple questions. 1. Now everytime I click on a link in an article it opens a completely different page of firefox instead of just making a tab on the line with all the other tabs. It also loads that new page half way off the screen on the right hand side and I have to drag it over, open it full sized and then screw around with cutting and pasting the url into a new tab on the old firefox page. How do I stop it from doing this? It's realllllly annoying.

2. It is screwing up some of my graphics by putting horizontal lines into the picutres to where you can't view it. Specifically on jigsaws from jigsawplanet.com. I work on a gaming site and this really impacts my ability to do my job (or have fun).

3. One one particular site HEXrpg.com, I set my view at 120% and every page I go it it reverts it back to 100%. This did NOT used to happen and it only seems to be happening on that particular site..... However, it could be on other sites as I've had to set my entire computer to 120% now so I can read the posts on that one site and now everything is too big for my screens in the other sites.

I don't know what you guys were trying to do, but whatever it was, can you please put it back to the way it was before this last (possibly last 2) updates. If not I'm going to have to switch to Edge or Chrome and I really don't want to have to do this because I've been with Firefox forever. HELP!?! Deborah DeVane
