Governments and their agencies are in no hurry to update their websites and web applications. 52 esr is the only one version of your browser that works with such "hurdles". To suggest the transition in IE and Edge is not necessary, they are not working with some sites. Where they can be used - and we do. The situation is very unpleasant we have to use 4 different browsers for different tasks and your demarche deprives us of one of the most important. To expect governments best response to changes of the surrounding world is naive. Please ask users to update or not their version of firefox. Thanks. Yet we must smash 60 esr and reinstall 52 esr daily.

I have just recently moved from Firefox 56 up to 62 (I had a few Legacy add-ons that I didn't want to loose, so I just stopped upgrading at 56; now, I need to upgrade and found a work-around for the main add-ons that I loose in 62). However, once I upgraded to 62, all of my saved log-ins and passwords were gone. I tried copying the files from my saved profile but that did not fix the problem. However, the passwords are still there, as when I downgrade back to 56, all the passwords come back. Is there any way to get these passwords back or do I have to reenter them all manually?

After the update yesterday, we've re-downloaded ESR 52.9 on office computers and changed our update settings to "Never Check for Updates." Both "Use Background Service" and "Automatically Update: Search Engines" are unchecked.

However, on some computers, the newest browser has automatically installed itself. We require the older browser to use the Silverlight plugin and we don't want our browser being updated without asking staff permission.

Firefox self-updated to ESR 60 this morning, without warning me that I would lose most of my add-ons and configurations. I understand that FF 52 has a limited life, but this is not a good week for me to have to deal with this because I am on deadline. I need access to my add-ons that I had last night so I can finish my project.

I would add that I did indeed click on the "about this update" link, but it goes to a "not found" page.

None of the links on the Mozilla website to the old versions allow me to download ESR 52. Even the link that says "download older versions" only gives access to ESR 60.

How can I go back to what I had an hour ago?

MOZILLA: This is absolutely unacceptable. You need to warn your users about what a huge update this is before it is applied, and you need to give people a window and not just force it all of a sudden. I had heard this was coming, but I had no idea that this was it.

I am running on a linux machine, with firefox installed in /opt (ie, not writable by the common user). How do I disable the constant 'do you want to upgrade' question that shows up (seemingly) every time I turn my head? I CANT upgrade it, I dont have permissions. It is almost (and getting closer all the time) enough to cause me to go back to chrome.

Why did Moz, without my permission, last night "upgrade" my firefox to V59. I did not want you to do that! This is very disrespectful. Why not say, uprade by [date] or FF won't be secure, and leave it up to me, as I have set 'notify but dont install' set.

I was having no problem with FF V57, unlike a similar poster who said FF crashed and came back auto-updated. I turned off my computer normally last evening, and this morning, the 'puter started up with V59, and asking for my keychain pw. I've NEVER used that pw except when installing and it took a half an hour to find it, meanwhile MY COMPUTER WAS UNUSEABLE BECAUSE THAT KEYCHAIN BOX WOULD NOT CLOSE. I COULDN'T EVEN CHECK MY EMAIL. Or browse what a keychain is.

I'm angry at Moz right now. I'm considering returning to Safari. Now I have to do several things manually since the addons don't work in V59 and the supposed replacement either does not work or is so hard to figure out that you need to be a programmer just to use it (form fill, not updated since january and numerous problem posts). Author's response: Then reinstall V56. LIke I would if I could. Form fill should be part of the browser, not an add on.

Each time I click on Mozilla Firefox to access the browser I get a box stating I should update and to do so it asks for my administrator password. I need to know whether Mozilla is asking so I can safely type my administrator password, or if it could be a hacker so I should not allow access to my administrator password. Also, in trying to ask this question I see that some others have had problems w/the new version of Mozilla Firefox. Is that the same as the update which the pop-up box is telling me to do? What is the effect of refusing to update or download the newer version of Mozilla Firefox?

I use Windows 7 on an ASUS laptop with modem and router.

This is really bad form.

My windows system crashed this morning. I have auto updates disabled. Seriously, Windows update service is disabled. Windows still installs them, anyway. One of the reasons I'm about to dump windows. permanently. I digress. Once I finally got into the system (windows is so slow to boot even on an 8 core machine) and started firefox, firefox gave a please wait, installing update.

For two weeks, I'd been clicking download later. I'm an IT professional. I want updates to happen when I want them to happen especially for spectre patches because they are not ready, yet. What happens if the firefox update is buggy and I want to roll the update back?

I really wanted to alert Mozilla directly, but there seems to be nowhere to do that. So here I am in a public forum asking WTF?

I have spent some time reading the forums and this seems to be a problem many people have. Unfortunately I have not read a post where an actual solution was offered. I get no sound in Firefox version 57 or 58. Version 56 would work except for I am forced to uninstall the latest version every couple days and reinstall Firefox at version 56. Every time I do this, I disable automatic updates. Firefox still automatically updates. WTF man. I see on these forums that many people need a previous version of Firefox for whatever reason and we all get the updates that break our specific machine's compatability forced on us EVEN THO WE HAVE SELECTED TO DISABLE THE AUTOMATIC UPDATES!!! Is there a way to check disable automatic updates and have it actually disable updating automatically? Or should I look for another browser?

I have Firefox 58.0.1 (64 bit) on a windows 7 machine.

When I start firefox I get the dialog box stating firefox is updating after which firefox starts normally. However when I got to the Help about dialog I get the Restart to update firefox button and firefox has not been updated.

This has been going on for a series of versions and always the result is for me to manually download full version and reinstall.

Things tried. 1. Starting firefox as administrator. 2. Deleting C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\Local\Mozilla\updates folder . 3. Even tried Refresh firefox under about:support

This is is pc for which I have admin rights but it is running Mcafee Endpoint security.

Thanks in advance for any assistance

A number of times when I open my macbook pro, the screen is on, but black. There are no windows visible, not even the login prompt. I end up doing a forced power off in order to log in. Recently I saw that the display was in the process of presenting the login form, and also present was the Firefox autoupdate progress bar dialog. Everything seemed locked up... no updates to the progress bar, and the login form was not accessible. The only differences this time was that the screen saver display was not blocking my view of the display... but I could see just those two items, not the full desktop. Makes me wonder if there is some sort of conflict or race condition present when autoupdate is trying to run when the screen is locked. I have since turned off Firefox's autoupdate feature and have it set to 'prompt me'. Will have to wait for the next Firefox update to see if that had an effect.

I wish I had taken a pic of the screen in that bizarre state.
