Hi,

FF 42.0 / Windows 7 64-bit

I have a problem with installing any extension that requires browser restart (for example Web Developer Toolbar). Addons that do not require browser restart (like firebug, adblock plus) are installed with no issues. When I go to about:addons search for addon, click install, it gets installed with no error messages but after I restart the browser it's simply not installed. By the way this problem has every windows workstation I checked in my company (Thomson-Reuters, Gdynia) and there is always the same problem even after fresh FF installation so it's not related to my specific laptop. I checked with local IT but they have no idea what the reason of that problem could be. This is not officially supported browser so it's not their duty to troubleshoot it. They just checked if the problem reoccurs when addon is installed with antivirus disabled and yes - with disabled antivirus software the problem still exists. I checked https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/unable-install-add-ons-extensions-or-themes but none of the cases from above-mentioned KBs seem to be relevant to my problem. I'm not power Firefox user so I would like kindly ask for advice how the problem could be troubleshooted: -are there any specific settings in about:config I should look into? -are there any certificates that could have been replaced on a corporate machine and are required for addon installation? -any specific entries in configuration files that I should check before and after the browser restart? -anything else..

I keep getting the message upgrade to Windows 10. I have Windows 7 currently and I would like to know, just what I will get when if I change? Will my computer run better, less problems and hangups? If my browser really doesn't give any better performance if I were to change, why change? Also, how much will my browser, Firefox change from what it currently does? Being I'm not a computer wizard, I'm concerned about having to learn how to navigate my browser all over again. Is this a concern? Hopefully someone can help, and explain just what I can expect if I were to make the change. Thank you.

When I click the add-on button Firefox opens on a blank page with my add-on links on the left hand side. It opens selecting 'get add-ons' and all that shows is a box saying 'loading' and the rotating icon. They never load. Going down the links the next is 'extensions' resulting in a blank page and nothing else. Next is appearance where it show's a default and 3 other inactive links. Finally plugins where nothing seems wrong. All there as I remember. Some of my extensions seem to be working properly but others don;t How can I access these extensions and how do I get onto the add-on page?

Although the Norton Toolbar now appears in 42.0, the Identity Safe feature does not work with. Firefox does not provide the same level of browsing assistance that Norton's Identity Safe does, and using Firefox without the Identity Safe requires many additional keystrokes and much additional wasted time. Norton assures me that the Identity Safe should be compatible, and it works fine in Internet Explorer. Norton claims that the Firefox "checkers" are still vetting the program compatibility issues, but how long will this process take? Using Firefox without the Identity Safe is so cumbersome and tedious that I may have to try Google Chrome or go back to Internet Explorer, although I have used Firefox ever since it first came out. Please don't force me to switch. Thank you.

Firefox has been crashing when I open it for over a week now, and I really miss it. The problem started when I updated the SilverLight and Adobe add-ons/plug-ins. Firefox has never opened since. I have re-installed it, un-installed and then re-installed it, tried running it in Safe Mode, tried installing it in Safe Mode, tried re-installing it after deleting the C-drive folders, and even tried uninstalling Silverlight and Adobe and re-installing Firefox without them even in the system. I tried re-installing them and then re-installing Firefox--nope. Finally, I went back to restore point in my computer from a week before the problem.

When the computer was restored, Firefox was there--version 41-something (Oddly, it was set to upgrade itself), which wouldn't open because it could not find a file called XPCOM. I can't get into Firefox to reset it to the factory settings, which I'm sure include XPCOM.

What now? I love Firefox, and I'm not ready to be done with it...

Several times I have lost bookmarks. When I follow the Restore Backups instructions I am presented with a list of 15 files to choose from with about 3000 items apiece (which sounds about right), but they are all from early December of last year - eleven months ago. Additionally, when I try to manually command a backup or to export as .html the process APPEARS to work, i.e., no error messages, but no file is created.

I have restored the hard drive from an image twice in the last year, but would expect that to just lose the backups made between the image file date and the date it was reloaded, and Firefox would continue to make backups as normal, so I doubt that is a factor.

As a stop-gap I have created a macro to save the various Places files in a rolling ten item queue, but it would be nice to get the system to work as it is supposed to.

Now, Firefox crashed in Windows after the last Nvidia 349.00 driver update, both in Win 8.1 and Windows 10. I have submitted ever freaking crash report to mozilla...I dunno what more I can provided but it isolated I know for sure to be mozilla code Waterfox, and Firefox both crash with the same error.

My TV guide site has for years remembered my preferences. For the last 2 weeks it has not but always goes to the current time. My preferences are still set to 7 pm but for some reason the site does not remember and always goes to the current time. Can anyone help? Thanks

I've tried the Firefox Refresh but that doesn't help.

In moments, Firefox's "Refresh" made a mess of my customized selections of add-ons, plugins, toolbars, etc., and now crashes, 2-of my favorite "go-to" add-ons are (1) 1 gone, and (2) the other will not install. I will NEVER do what Firefox suggests again. I was doing just fine...Except, for several months Firefox suddenly freezes and I have to go to the Task Manager to end Firefox, then open Firefox anew. All I can say is, I must be losing my marbles for "refreshing" Firefox for the second time in a couple of years, after the first time caused trouble, and the overall results are worse now, the second time. I am also weary of Firefox crashes.

Anyway, is the "refresh" which occurred within the past hour, reversible? Also, just noticed "Old Firefox Data" folder whereas Had never seen it before . . . is this connected to Firefox refreshing?

Up to today I had a lot of downloads in my download library. I usually keep them here for easy access. All of the sudden all of my downloads disappeared. I did not press the clear all button. Can I retrieve my downloads i had in my library? Did I change something by mistake or can I change it so that my downloads stay again in my library until I decide to delete them them?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

When - Now IF I update to 4.3 How can I overide your decision to tell me what to do Messrs free web? I appreciate Mozilla is being protective, but that is exactly how the 'others' have invaded our privacy.

I would rather be told how to protect myself, and have enough information to assess the risk.

The extensions I want to keep working are little simple helpful tools that the developers don't have the time or resouces to get your approval. In fact they might not even be active developers any more...

I have been using some of them for years. I have also used and loved Firefox for years and don't want to change to something else. I can use them but I don't like them.

Can anyone confirm that I will indeed be unable to allow unsigned addons?

Oh and the 'educated guesses' about my system are correct but incomplete, in that it doesn't show that several of those plugins are have been disabled for a long time and have no way of uninstalling them - odd really. Nor does it list the offending extensions of which I speak.

I jusr read this over and it sounds a bit fierce - I don't mean to be rude. I have been trying to find out how to overcome this ever since I first read about it AGES ago. Didn't want to bother anyone. But it occurred to me that others might have the same concerns.

(Sorry for my bad english, it's not my native language) Hello, it's been many months that I have a problem with automatic scrolling Firefox Maintain pressure on the mouse wheel can slide in all directions of the web page, very useful for long pages and also for very high resolution pictures.

Off for several release (from 40.0.0 I think but not certainty), scrolling stops and / or is extremely slow and choppy until the page is not fully charged. This is all the more painful if we wait for loading a heavy image on a slow site.

I tested with the Firefox Safe Mode and it changes nothing. Disable graphics acceleration nor solves this defect. Test a new blank profile ... Remove and reinstall Firefox ... Namely I met no automatic scrolling problem on Internet Explorer or Chrome.

As I visit large high resolution photo galleries, is often sucks having to wait finish loading before dragging on the page with the pressed wheel. I leave then your knowledge to help me determine the source of this defect.

P.S. Windows 7 x64 with ATI HD7870 2go

I have an old Toshiba satellite laptop that is running win 7 and FF 42.0. I have always had a problem with the text on certain web pages (including the text I'm typing right now) being so light that I can hardly read it. I can't include a screen shot because I don't seem to have Paint on this computer. Does anyone know how I could remedy this? Thank you.

Suddenly, firefox started automatically opening tabs non-stop. I had to stop the computer. After restarting firefox, the tools/options started opening in a separate tab and not in a box as before. I tried to follow your instructions, but saw that browser preference inContent was already set at false. So the problem did not come from there. Then I refreshed firefox. Since then in configuration page, browser preference inContent has disappeared. And tools/options continues to open in a tab. I would like this to open in a box as before. Could you please tell me what to do? Thanks.

Until this week I easily handled my cookie preferences by NOT checking the "except cookies from sites" option. I then made exceptions to this default with the exceptions tab or through a cookie manager add-on. Since the last recent Firefox update, this no longer works. Nothing in cookie exceptions does anything. In addition to not letting me allow cookies, it will also not let me block cookies when I do check the "except cookies from sites" option. The Cookie Exceptions Do Nothing. I will appreciate any real help.

For unrelated reasons, I did a clean reinstall of Mac OS 10.11.1 and downloaded a fresh copy of Firefox and several add ons: noscript, better privacy, a cookie manager and adblock plus. I notice that the issue persists. It occurs from multiple apps e.g. I often drag an untrusted url from an email in Apple Mail or from Facebook in Safari to the Firefox dock icon to open it in my more secure, locked down browser (Firefox).

Under the <History> drop down there are normally the last 15 pages listed. However, these are "stuck" to pages visited several days/weeks previously.

If I use the full History recent pages are there and the Back/Forward function works.

I have tried the Places Maintenance extension - without success.

The problem occurred at the same time as the <Recently Closed Tabs> also stuck - that was rectified within about:config by changing browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo from 10 to 0 and back to 10

For the History problem, there is nothing obvious there and I do not want to try "random" changes.

I ofter work with lots of tabs, and I have to say, this 'feature' is pretty annoying.

I use FlashPlayer to watch videos on YouTube. To get rid of the notification "Press Esc To Exit Full Screen Mode," I went to about:config and changed the value of "full-screen-api.approval-required" to false. It worked until I restarted Firefox and now it doesn't.

As a matter of fact, every time I restart Firefox, it does a lot of things against my Preferences, too. It signs me out of YouTube and every other site even though I have the box checked to NOT do that.

Any real answers or am I deleting Firefox permanently and going back to Safari?
